Perhaps you want a week without the kids causing a ruckus in the house. Maybe you want to find a…read moreprogram that gives your child leadership skills. Or maybe you just need to send your kid somewhere while you're at work during the dog days of summer. Look no further, Camp Weaver is definitely the best option for you in the Triad area. Spanning across over 100 acres of property, camp has a plethora of options of things that your child can do, so that they can make themselves at home. There is surely an activity for every kid, playing sports, doing arts and crafts, swimming at the lake, and much, much more! And, although Camp Weaver advertises themselves as an outdoor camp, their facilities are equipped with air conditioning and electricity to make your child's stay exciting, yet comfortable. The staff also do a great job promoting a sense of community at camp, and have a collective mission to make each child's experience at camp the best they could possibly have. I would like to highlight Camp Weaver's leadership camps. As a former participant of these programs, I can say that I grew as a leader via the leadership camps, and I can attribute much of my maturity and growth to these programs. These multi-week camp sessions throw campers into situations where they are forced to work together, which teach them valuable soft skills, which they could carry with them into the future. I would highly recommend the Leaders in Training program at Camp Weaver as a way to give your child a fun experience at camp, while also exposing them to a program where they can achieve personal growth. Overall, Camp Weaver is absolutely the best place to send your kid for camp. They will get to try new things, meet new people, grow as individuals, and truly have the experience of a lifetime.

Bummer follow-up to Winston Waterworks, for sure, but not necessarily strictly due to the the…read moreaccommodations, my rating can be almost entirely attributed to one particular lifeguard. Boo, just boooo! As per usual, the lifeguard staff at Memorial Park pool is comprised of teenagers, no surprise. That's pretty common. However, this lot of teen lifeguards had to be the most unprofessional lot I'd ever had the displeasure to experience-- with one 'Queen Bee' lifeguard in particular. Let me explain. As you enter, you pay your admission fee ($2/ per person), we opted for the night swim. The facilities are older, and could definitely use some sprucing up (fresh paint, new fixtures, etc.), but everything was clean and well maintained. I was joined by 3 of my kiddos, two of my daughters and one of my sons (20, 7 & 9 respectively). The 7 year old wanted to jump off of the diving board, so was required to take a swim test. She passed the 2-part swim test at Winston Waterworks (part 1: swim the full length of their pool with without stopping, part 2: tread water for 60 seconds without your head going under). However, 'Queen Bee' administered her swim test (swim a short length). She failed her almost immediately because her shoulders didn't remain above water. Say what? My 9 year old is on the spectrum. When we arrived, he did his happy dance. Basically, he danced in place on his tippy toes. 'Queen Bee' blew her whistle at him and sternly yelled at him to, "Stop running!" Again, say what? Hmmm. The rules are clearly posted, so at this point I figured I had better get familiar so I could spare us all any more encounters with the Queen. They were all as expected, No Roughhousing, No Diving in Shallow End, No Running, etc., etc. Okay, we can manage that, right. Queen Bee's whistle blows again. I look up, and yep, she's looking directly at ME. My 7 year old was on my shoulders as I walked out to the deeper end of the pool so watch my 9 year old do some tricks. I guess that's a nope, too. Funny thing is, as I looked around, there was a large, rowdy group of older kids (teens) wrestling and splashing near us. No whistle blew for them, seemed strange. Like really strange. The kids weren't bothering us, just the fact that the Queen's whistle was partial to us was. The progressed, the whistle continued to sing for us periodically, the older kids splashed and played-- that's when I noticed it, or, her, actually. Queen Bee was one of the kids wrestling and playing!! Say what?! The large group of ROUGHHOUSING "kids" were actually the rotating lifeguards!! Wow, just wow. Man, did I wish I had a whistle.

This was the first time for the others but they have all played other Stranz courses, like Tobacco Road, True Bill & Caledonia. Like any other course, you'll experience some challenges your first time around and after that, you will play some holes completely different. This is rural Carolina golf in Randolph County and it feels like it. The word is of all the Stranz courses, this was his favorite and it's easy to see why. It's so plush and green, the natural landscape is scattered with boulders that are designed to create exceptional views. I especially like there are 5, yes FIVE Par 3's, all reasonable short and accessible. The Waterfall hole #15 is a work of golf art, just spectacular. It was a great experience from the beginning. Ron, the starter and car attendant helped us with our bags and was very friendly and professional. Jack & Keith in the clubhouse got us checked in quickly and directed us back to Ron to give us the low down on current course conditions, pace of play, cart operation etc. They are EV's with GPS included. When Ron told us about the 'out of bounds' play guidelines and recommended we not go in the woods and mentioned rattlesnakes and copperheads, that got our attention.
