Until this current school year, we were satisfied with our experience. In fact, we actively recommended them to other families. I can no longer do so in good conscience. Distance learning during a pandemic is difficult for all involved, both staff and students. My daughter began this school year doing distance learning. She was not doing well at all; she struggled. We requested extra help for her in the form of a detailed daily schedule to follow, since both parents are also working full time. The school instead gave her daily one-on-one time with the founder, Ms. Betty. Even with this daily help, our daughter was not completing her work, so her father and I were spending evenings checking on her assignments in Google Classroom. During this checking, we came across a story that had been assigned to my daughter's class for a reading comprehension assignment. This appalling story is shown in the pictures attached to this review. After a moment of "does that really say what I think it says?!?", my husband and I decided to email the school's administration and the classroom teacher. We were already very frustrated because of our daughter's distance learning issues, so my email was direct and to the point. This is racist. It is unacceptable. Why is your school using a 50 year old reading curriculum? What other overtly racist stories are in this curriculum? Why isn't the classroom teacher reading what she is assigning to students? I expected to receive an apology and a solution. What we got instead was the most unprofessional email I have ever seen to come from a school administrator. The administrator agreed to research a new reading program to purchase based on the age of the materials, but then told us that we had accused them personally of being racist and that that was offensive. No apologies for the content of the story. No "oh my goodness, I didn't realize that was in there". No admission that the story was unacceptable. Just defensiveness and blame-shifting. We requested to be released from our Spring tuition contract, and that request was granted. We withdrew our daughter and enrolled her in public school. We had paid our tuition in full through December, so we are out several thousand dollars, but felt that this was the right course of action given the circumstances. For the record, we do not accuse any individual of personally being racist. However, racist materials were clearly present in their curriculum and were distributed to students. We believe other parents should be aware of this incident when they are making decisions about how to educate their children.

My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

Our son is thriving under the care of Ms. Roasa, a loving, structured, and incredibly responsive teacher who goes above and beyond to communicate with parents and challenge every student to reach their full potential. Her dedication to both academic and personal growth is inspiring. The entire school reflects this same level of excellence. The administrators are highly qualified, supportive, and effective in their roles. There is a clear structure across the campus that emphasizes discipline and respect--lessons that may be tough for young children at first, but are handled with such care and consistency by the staff that they become second nature over time. Both students and parents are held to high standards, which is something I find incredibly refreshing in today's educational landscape. Compared to our experience in a traditional public school district, the difference has been night and day. At previous schools, we often saw a lack of discipline and respect, and far too quickly, some students were labeled or given diagnoses to explain behavior rather than working to understand and improve the root cause. At Founders, it's clear that they invest in every child's growth in a meaningful way. Since transitioning to Founders, we've seen remarkable changes in our son--improved grades, better self-control, increased responsibility, and a newfound sense of discipline. The curriculum is high-level, even at the lower grade levels, and challenges students in all the right ways. Unlike many public schools that "teach to the test," Founders builds its lessons thoughtfully, ensuring students not only succeed on standardized tests but also gain a deeper, richer understanding of material that's often overlooked elsewhere. I'm amazed at the things my young son comes home having learned--topics I never encountered until much later in school. The campus itself is beautiful and well-maintained, and the classrooms are purposefully arranged to support focused and effective learning. It's clear that every aspect of the school--from the physical environment to the academic approach--is designed to help children succeed. I can't recommend Founders Academy of Schertz highly enough. It's been a transformative experience for our family.

Some of the "facilitator" staff would yell and berate us verbally picking on personal attributes and private performance information with everybody listening out in open spaces. i can recall a moment when i was on my laptop and i was just playing a game on my free time and i laughed at a joke a teacher made not even provoking him. he then proceeded to announce and i quote "yeah and i laugh the same way when i look at your grades!". situations like that and the degrading treatments i endured linger on me still to this day and it feeds into my paranoia and depression. im genuinely afraid to talk to my professors at the college i attend now because i just have this subconcious fear that im taking up their time and that if they know that i dont understand everything that theyll think less of me and that ill be nothing more then a verbal punching bag in their eyes despite repeated reassurances by the college staff that that isnt how they think but regardless no matter how much they show that theyre happy and willing to help i just cant bring myself to ask them because i think about what would happen if i tried to seek help at afia and choose id rather not bother anybody. any time i see grades and any note left by professors even if positive i cant help but click out before i can read too much; my eyes water regardless of the message. this "school" is a cesspool of unprofessional behaviour and psychological torment and rather contrary to their motto i failed to "belong", i failed to "find joy" even going to the mental hospital to be diagnosed with depression mid school year, and i most certainly did not learn how to "be great" as im left a few months after graduation feeling anything but great and more something around the likes of defeated, irrationally afraid and depressed. on the psychological care side of things there is virtually nothing done to try to help those that are in a poor mental state theres no consideration for the depressed, theres no actions taken to help those overstimulated by struggles in life even if it had the potential to be a danger to oneselves. a unfortunate occurance regarding lack of mental health care and intervention i recall was one time after i came back from the mental hospital scared and barely holding myself together with the persistant and frightening subconcious thoughts, despite establishing the trust issues i had with them historically at the time, i went to the office of one of the administrative staff to maybe seek help and ask what to do as i was afraid to really talk to anyone about it and i was desperate for any lifeline that wouldnt immediately upset and cause turmoil amongst my family and close friends so i sat down in the office with tears falling from my eyes and asked what i should do in case i were to "dissappear", referring to the mental hospital, mentioning explicitly how i didnt feel good in my mind and that i was frightened of what may happen to me. and do you know what the response was? she handed me an agenda and basically told me that i should use it to organize my schedule and in direct response to my comment about myself disappearing said "okay lets not do that". and thats all she said before ushering me out. i conclude my review saying if i could i would leave a lower rating and the fact that they turned off and deleted google reviews is VERY telling. i would never wish to ever experience something like this again and seriously, if braination cares about what little positive reputation this school has left then they must take action now and intensively review the performance of administrative staff of afia. I believe the idea and intention is absolutely wonderful but it just doesnt live up to the promises and so im left traumatized into the start of the real world.
