Can't complain about the staff or the dentist... but this insurance thing has got to be fixed! I give ideas below.--------- Let's discuss dental insurance and how it works. When I learn, I share the knowledge. For my recent dental work involving four crowns with an out-of-pocket cost of $8,000, Delta Dental and MetLife collectively paid out only $1,000. Upon reviewing my policy and consulting with Delta Dental, I discovered that their payout structure is based on the amount I've paid into the system, essentially functioning like a savings program. Furthermore, due to having a bridge installed four years ago, I was informed by the insurance company that Delta and MetLife won't cover any work in the same tooth area for five years. It's crucial to thoroughly examine your insurance policy, considering deductibles and previous dental work within specific timeframes, as this significantly impacts your coverage. Perhaps considering an alternative approach, like a personal savings plan for dental expenses, might be more beneficial. Delta made 9 billion in revenue 2024.

Qualdent office staff is professional, courteous and friendly. They have never failed to provide exceptional customer service and follow up. Dr. Ruvins is the most ethical, gentle and caring doctor we have ever dealt with. He truly cares about his patients and recommends the best option for the patient available. My root canals, crowns, fillings etc. have all been as pain free as possible under the circumstances (and I have had quite a few previous experiences with other dentists in the past). He is a true expert in his field. When I asked about getting cosmetic treatment in order to correct some unevenness among my top teeth, he recommended that look for orthodontic care instead, as he felt, this was the healthiest and the most natural option for me. Dr. Ruvins could have easily accomodated my request by simply complying, however, he referred me elsewhere as he was mostly concerned for my well being as a patient and I couldn't be happier with the results! I came in for a second opinion only, no treatment done, after an 8-hour failed root canal elsewhere. (Yes, you read that right.) My original dentist (Jack Nguyen, formerly of Awesome Dental) had agreed to pay for the consult, but then he vanished. Instead of resolving this professionally, Dr. Ricketts' office came after me with an outrageously overpriced bill and proceeded to hound me for five years. Even after payment was made (by me, not by Nguyen), they continued to threaten collections until today, when they finally admitted the bill was paid. Incompetent, unethical, and utterly unprofessional. If you value transparency, fair billing, and basic respect, steer clear of this clinic. EDIT: Your response does not reflect my experience. To be clear: I never received any treatment from your office, only a consultation that another dentist had agreed to cover. When he reneged, your office pursued me relentlessly for five years over that bill, even after payment was made. Most recently, you threatened to rescind a fee reduction if I didn't remove this review. That isn't a "communication breakdown." That's harassment and unethical billing.

8/18/26 Back in the "old days" putting on a lingual bar, otherwise known as a bonded retainer, was…read morevery normal procedure after getting your braces off, especially if you worried about being able to keep putting on your retainer at night when you sleep...for the next 5 decades. Well, eventually my bar broke, so I went to an orthodontist my family had used before. It took quite a long time (45 min. to an hour) to remove the glue from one or two teeth, and replace a little part of the retainer. (Like it WAS like 2" long, it broke at 1.75", they removed and replaced the last .25", and glued it in place.) I wasn't sure that was going to fix the problem of my front bottom teeth shifting, but I only had a couple of months to worry about it, because the glue started falling off, and I had TWO areas that were poking me, and making my tongue raw, so I bought lots of wax from Walmart and tried to keep it covered. But I usually swallowed the wax while eating, and so I just needed to get the problem fixed. But I wasn't going to go to the same ortho. I happened to be over at Southlands on 8/14, and I walked into Garlock Orthodontists, and I asked if they had any availability to have it looked at. It was 2pm, and they said "Yes, how about 3pm?" And during that hour, they took free X-rays, and scans of my teeth and bonded retainer to help Dr. Garlock figure out what can be done. (This place is huge, with lots and lots of techs, I've never seen an ortho office this large before! And the theme is beachy, so very cute.) So Dr. Garlock came and looked at it, and said yes, they could fix it, but not a "temporary fix" like what was done, he suggested a whole new bar, so the glue and bar would have to be removed from all 6 teeth. I was really dreading this, because it was a pain having the glue removed from just 2 teeth, how long would this take? An hour or two?? So I was moved over to Stacy's chair (same day, a few minutes later), and she has either 19 or 29 years experience at this! I laid back and tried to be calm, it helped that the TV above me seemed to be playing something like a Hallmark movie. Stacy was so gentle with getting the glue off that I was able to calm my body and enjoy the movie. Next thing you know, she's gluing on the new bar! What, the whole thing, removing the old and gluing on the new, only took 25 minutes!! I told Stacy she was AMAZING, and I was so glad that I walked in the doors that day! I left there dazed and happy, and when I got home and looked at my teeth closely, she used a lot less glue than the bulky balls of glue I was used to. If you are looking around to have your bonded retainer replaced, please make sure that they have a way to do it in-house, because if they have to send it out for 3 weeks, that is 3 weeks without your retainer (they have to take it off to get a good scan), and your teeth are going to shift a lot in those 3 weeks. So I would highly recommend Garlock Ortho. I know that they also have an incentive program for your children, to earn points for their grades, good Dentist visits, etc., and then they can spend their points on various socks and gift cards to restaurants like Cheesecake Factory. So that's very fun for them! By the way, Dr. Garlock only does braces, he does not do what Dentists do, fill cavities and such. (This is a plus in my book.)

I've been to see Dr Wallace about 3 times this year, once for a check up and twice for fillings…read more Every time I've had good experiences and all of the assistants, hygienists and Dr Wallace have been very kind, knowledgeable, informative and understanding. Dr Wallace gives you a call the next day to make sure you're ok too, which is a nice little touch. The office and waiting areas are always clean and tidy, no clutter and very professional. I did have a shock after my first visit for fillings. I didn't realise how expensive they were. As it turns out, the new lady at the desk had forgotten to give me the estimate and I didn't think to ask for one. After I paid, I got the estimate for the rest of the fillings, and on my most recent visit, Dr Wallace was very apologetic. I should have received the estimate prior to any work being done. He gave me a discount and made sure I was 100% ok to continue. He was so sincere and I trust him so we're all good now.

To reiterate, I came here during COVID for a painful tooth, but the dentist focused on a different tooth, claiming I urgently needed a replacement crown for one that was only two years old. I felt pressured into the procedure, and the crown was poorly done in both fit and color. Another dentist has since told me it needs to be replaced, which says it all. I'm extremely frustrated by this entire experience, from being coerced into unnecessary work to the poor quality of care, and now being blindsided by a collections bill years later. I was quoted a price and told the rest was covered by insurance. I certainly don't recommend this underhanded clinic.

He gave me a very candid and honest second opinion, so I scheduled treatment with him, and the procedure went smoothly. He made sure I was comfortable before and during the procedure, and I surprisingly didn't feel a thing while he was working on my gums. The night after the gum surgery I didn't feel any pain or discomfort, like I was afraid I might, after the local anesthetic wore off. He did such a great job, I'd definitely recommend him!
