In my opinion, worst property managers/apartment in Ames. I have had the unfortunate opportunity to live in the sh*tbox you call 224 Hayward #301.
It was a little while ago, but I'll never forget the headaches I endured for a school year. They advertised internet, but it didn't work for the first month and a half, the air conditioner is in the wall so you lose a bunch of heat around it in the winter, and the windows and door were equally as inefficient. A number of times I was frozen inside/outside my apartment because the door and lock would freeze tight. The common areas are constantly disgusting. I don't understand why they couldn't powerwash the concrete every once in a while like after homecoming when my stairs were covered in vomit.
They allow themselves access without any warning and leave a business card saying they sprayed for bugs. The kicker is, I noticed that I had mold growing in a corner of my apartment when I was moving out. When I notified Rachel Randall she denied getting my first message the previous day asking someone to take care of it ASAP (Patti, the receptionist even said she gave Rachel the message). The handyman came by to spray it with bleach the next day, but anyone who is worth a dime in property management should know that bleach doesn't work on mold since the spores are living deep within the dry wall. So, being a good citizen, I notified her of this and she pretty much hung up on me. Basically a screw you, you're moving out anyways.
After I moved, I had my dad drop off the keys and carpet cleaning receipt at the office, but he just dropped the keys. I called, spoke with Rachel, and told her that he forgot and I'll send it in the mail. She called the next day saying the new tenants were complaining that the carpet was dirty and wanted an explanation. Well, if the carpet wasn't stained and disgusting to begin with she may have had an issue. But, I reiterated that the receipt was in the mail and she could call the company to verify it was cleaned.
She did and proceeded to yell at the company saying they did a horrible job. They called me to verify that yes, Rachel Randall is a total biyatch, and they never plan on cleaning carpets there in the future.
In my personal experience alone, Randall doesn't give a hoot about their property or the people who live there. Try Chamberlain Lofts if you're looking for an apartment. read more
