I had one of the combo plates- 2 tacos, an Enchilada, and a tostada for $7.50 and the kiddo had a quesadilla with rice and beans for $3.50. Wife and I visited this restaurant on 2/20/2020 when we stopped in Madison for the night. While we are not Tex Mex connoisseurs we both thought our meal was in the top three best Tex Mex meals we have had. The food was delicious! Pros- friendly and fast service , good decor(in a cool historic building) , lots of locals here at lunchtime, clean bathroom cons- chips didn't seem crispy and hot like they are in some Mexican restaurants I got the taco salad which was kind of bland and the tortilla shell the salad was in was also like the chips brought to the table. I think in a restaurant like this stick to the reviews and get their famous fajitas, cheese dip, chiles rellenos etc(ditch the healthy efforts like i was striving for), I would also recommend to management to put a toilet paper holder in female restroom - it was sitting on top of commode and almost fell in! read more

I am leaving this review to bring light to a situation that happened on 6/20/19; today my friend and I came to this restaurant and order the Special Quesadilla fajita's mix, to split for lunch. We received our food in a timely manner. As we were concluding our meal, with my friend only having a few bites left, my friend takes a bite and makes a funny face and takes something out of her mouth. She put it on the table and asks me what does that look like? I use my napkin to pick it up; it is small and kind of hard, almost like a human fingernail... We ask one of the waitresses over, show her and explain what happened. She promptly takes it to someone (whom I assume is the manager?). This man comes over, asks what happened; we explain. He shakes his head and says I'm so sorry and to not worry about the food (to which we took as do not worry about paying the bill). He takes the piece and goes to the back, saying that he will be right back. We wait a few minutes before we ask one of the waiters over. The waiter begins to explain about how sometimes they will find "weird things" in the packages of ground beef; he also offers that since we had a quesadilla he has no idea how something like that could have happened because of the meat used in it (the quesadilla we ordered had steak, shrimp, and chicken pieces in it). The manager comes back over and he and the waiter explain how they went back and asked the kitchen and staff to show their hands, and that no one had any broken fingernails. The waiter even tries to prompt my friend, telling her that she can't leave until she smiles; this is after my friend has told him that she will not be coming back to this restaurant and that she feels sick to her stomach. Both the waiter and manager just talked about how their staff wears gloves, but the way they were talking is what is bothersome, like they were trying to use humor tones to diffuse the situation? Although the comp for the meal was a gesture that I am sure was meant to help the situation, this goes beyond just getting food for free. When my friend and I left and got into my car she broke down in tears. Because she was frustrated and felt like she was not heard by the restaurant staff. She felt violated at the fact that she chewed and spit out a human fingernail, and the only thing that this manager could do was to ask a question to his staff to show their hand and prove if they had a missing nail or not? I leave this review in hopes that this establishment will take better sanitary measures to ensure that this will not happen to future customers. To anyone who may choose to still eat at this restaurant, I urge to be cautious when eating your food and to check your bites before you have the same situation happen to you as it did my friend... read more

Best Mexican and authentic food in whole Florida. Been married to a Mexican and visited Mexico many many times, this makes us feel we are Mexico dinning. The food here is ALWAYS really good. I've never left feeling like, "Oh, last time's burrito was better." Consistency in the quality of food is important to me. My only issue is that you're not brought your ticket to your table in order to review your charges before you pay. You are to go to the cashier desk, wait for them to ring everything up (quickly) and then tell you what you owe. Unless you're fast with mental math and you're watching them ring up your numbers on the old fashioned register, you have no idea of what you're paying for was your entire ticket or half of someone else's. We will still eat there, of course, because aside from pizza, country buffet and barbecue, this is the only other eatery in Madison. And the queso is so good. read more

In our way back from Jacksonville Florida we stopped and had dinner at this restaurant. We had previously eating at the Casa Grande restaurant in Monticello and Tallahassee and figured food and service would be comparable to these two locations . I ordered the chimichanga and my husband ordered the taco plate. When we got our meals I received 3 flutes that were completely drained in oil and my husband received beef fajitas that were salty and oily. We tried to get the waiters attention to let them know that are meals were not what we ordered and unacceptable in taste and oily. It took us over 15 minutes to get their attention. Carne Azada was just right- very enjoyable meal with the family. Salsa was fresh and spicy- queso was a little bland. Guacamole and pico were just right for my tastes. Most of the group had sangria and thought it was great; I had a few Bud long necks that were not the freshest- but still cold and smooth. If you are getting take-out from this restaurant, check your food before you leave. Our 3-item combo was missing an item, filling was beef instead of the chicken that was ordered. Veggie filling for fajitas was about a teaspoon of each (lettuce, tomato, cheese). There was a lot of the meat and peppers for the fajitas but that's all. Customer service was deplorable! We waited about 10 minutes for cashier to stop talking and joking with friends at a table. I waved to him, he just looked at me and kept on with laughing and joking, the waitress called to him and that did not phase him, he just kept laughing and joking with friends. I guess their business is doing so good that it doesn't matter to him if he alienates customers. I was going there multiple times a week, and we brought other friends and family, but I will no longer go to their restaurant.
