I will start off by saying that Dr. Kelly and her staff are super friendly. However, the reason I have to give them one star (I would give them 0 stars if I could) is because my mom and I took my 9 month old puppy to see them for the first time back on July 5th because she had been vomiting and not acting normal. The doc took some x-rays, stated that everything looked fine, and sent us home with some medication. That Friday, we had to take my puppy back up there because she kept getting worse and worse. The doc stated that "puppies eat everything, so maybe something is lodged in her stomach." However, the doc examined every part of her body EXCEPT for her stomach/intestines (while also performing and charging us for another set of x-rays.) Every other day since then we had to take the puppy back in because nothing seemed to be happening, and every time we went in the exact same tests were being performed. FINALLY after 2 weeks of going in to see the doc and watching my puppy suffer, they performed an ultrasound on her stomach/intestines. They located a mass in her intestines and they performed surgery on her the next day. In surgery, they discovered that a piece of a chew bone had gotten stuck and was blocking any intestinal movement. However, on July 21st, we had to take my puppy over to an emergency clinic to be watched for the weekend while she healed since Ramsgate is not open. That evening we got a call from the emergency clinic saying that our puppy had passed away due to an excessive amount of infection in her intestines (the piece of chew bone that was found in her intestines had rotted over time and had also ripped her intestinal wall, causing lots of infection.)
I believe that if the proper tests had been ran the first few times that we were in Dr. Kelly's office, then the mass could have been located sooner and would not have had time to decompose and do the damage that it did to cause such an infection. Instead, they sat on the issue for 2 weeks and never acted like it was an emergency (may I also add that whether we spent 10 minutes with the doc or 45 minutes, we were charged at least $200 every time we walked into that place!!) I would say that if you need simple things such as shots done, then Ramsgate is the perfect place to go. But if you need actual answers to a problem, you're better off either going to another vet, or going to an emergency clinic. Dr. Kelly is seriously overbooked and does not have the time to spend on issues such as this. They are rated one of the best vet clinics in Waco, but do not have a lot of the necessary equipment on hand to detect problems. read more
