    Potato Croquette
    Jennifer S.

I happened upon Ramen Wakana when my coworkers chose this spot for a business lunch. We were seated fairly quickly. Takeout style menus were on each table so we perused the menu. We decided not to try any of the special lemonades or bubble teas this trip and just did water and unsweetened tea. Everyone opted for sushi instead of ramen because we were short on time. I got the Green Tiger Roll and the potato croquette because it seemed unusual and I've never seen one on a Japanese menu before. While we waited for our food I noticed that the staff seems to be made up of possibly the family who owns the restaurant. An older gentleman was sitting at a table in the dining room shelling shrimp into a bowl. A female was peeling soft boiled eggs, popping one or two in her mouth as she went along. My removal of one star is due to the fact that this food prep, typically done in the kitchen, was done without gloves. Now, I guarantee a lot of restaurants do this very thing, but it's done in the kitchen so the patrons don't see it. So that's why I'm still going with 4 stars, because this sushi was one of the best rolls I have ever had. I'm a cooked sushi fan, I don't do traditional rolls, but the green tiger had fried shrimp, cream cheese, spicy Mayo, and fresh avocado and was amazing. I honestly wouldn't care if you told me the chef licked his fingers before making it, it was that delicious. The potato croquette was a perfectly crispy hash brown but definitely seemed to be made in house with a nice blend of spices. Everyone said they loved their sushi and I would 100% order from here again.

The environment is really nice. Staff are friendly. Octopus appetizer was ok, a little oily. Tonkatsu ramen was delicious, and the 2 roll I ordered were very good.

I was so surprised at our last minute decision to eat here at Ramen Wakana. I've eaten at numerous ramen places in Central Jersey and I actually found this to be a relatively equivalent if not better spot. The ramen was a great texture and reminded me similarly to Italian pasta al dente styled which gave it a nice chew. While the broth wasn't overly impressive it was still not bad and the boiled egg was cooked just perfect where the middle was still runny. I also enjoyed the portion size of the ramen. We had a difficult decision of choosing the variety of sushi choices but we ended up with a spider and dragon roll. I really liked the spider roll which is a special roll I usually order whenever I go to sushi places. However the dragon roll wasn't all that impressive since the eel seemed like it lacked the quality but again since this is just a local ramen and sushi spot I have nothing to complain about it. This is definitely worth a trip if you are craving a soup noodles especially as it gets colder!

Very good Japanese ramen restaurant. It had very interesting decor on the walls which I wish I took pictures of. They also have these nice little booths which is where I sat in to eat. This food definitely hit the spot. They had a pretty big variety of items on their menu offering ramen, sushi, and rice dishes. There were plenty of appetizers you would expect to find in a sushi and ramen place like Chashu buns, Takoyaki, and sashimi. I ended up ordering the Salmon Tataki as an appetizer which is in the attached picture. Also got the Shoyu Ramen. Both were winners. I loved that they were pretty generous with the toppings in the ramen. Most places I've been to only give you half the egg with your ramen, this place you get the whole thing. The broth was very savory and the chashu pieces were huge. I was a happy customer. One thing to note, it was a little pricey, but that might have more to do with inflation and rising costs in general during these times. It's hard to say. But overall I liked the place and would definitely return.

Nice booths. Makes you feel like you are in Asia.

Delightfully surprised with this place. My wife and I went here for dinner as we are big fans or ramen. We're here on business and this was down the road from the hotel. This place is not strictly just Ramen. They have fresh sushi and a sushi chef who makes phenomenally. I got sushi as an appetizer, And it was my favorite part of the meal. This place is known for the Ramen however there's sushi was pretty darn good. My wife ended up getting Boba tea and it was very good as well. The price of the boba tea was very cheap compared to other shops in the area. We got to sit in a booth which Which was different from a standard American booth. You have to take your shoes off and then you could sit either cross legged or have your feet below you. It was different in it and it's not something you see everywhere. The Ramen menu is pretty basic with lots of options and not but not super expensive. The shrimp Ramen is the same price as any other Ramen on the menu. The options if they give you a spice level type of noodle the firmness of the noodle and a lot of add-ons. We both ended up getting extra noodles which seem like a double the size of the Ramen meal. We ended up having to use two containers to take our Ramen home. Service is very quick friendly and polite. We really enjoy this place and we will probably be back very shortly.

The ramen broth here is so rich, flavorful, and genuinely authentic. I got the Tonkotsu ramen here for the second time. The sashimi is fresh and generously cut thick. There is a cute wallpaper on the side dining area. I would just recommend some organization for the cleaning supplies to make the ambience feel tidier. However, happy to know that everything is well sanitized! Service is excellent and friendly. Seating is nice with tatami seats and leg room hollowed out. The wall to lean on is not sturdy though if someone else is leaning on the other side at the next table. Parking is plentiful and located at a convenient location right by the highway. I give this place 5 star for the food, 4 for the ambience, 5 for the service.

Fast take out service I got the seafood ramen. Will update when I try it. Ample parking lot. Clean inside. Lots of items in the menu.

New menu! Now they serve ramen, sushi and rice bowl!! Great flavor as always!! Staff are very nice and friendly. Some dishes you might have to wait longer but worth it.

Yes, that is my hand up in the air. I have a question and I am hoping someone can explain to me why restaurant owners/managers choose to ignore their customers' restaurant experience with great frequency by allowing the dining rooms to be dismal places to eat a meal. Ramen Wakana has taken over a location that once upon a long distance time ago housed a Japanese dining establishment I enjoyed visiting. They have added bright colored walls and the exterior of the restaurant suggests this vibrant new energy but walk through the doors and its HUH? Here's that question ... Mr./Ms. Owner/Manager of Ramen Wakana did you run out of paint? Does your staff not have enough energy to put supplies away or to clear tables once customers have left? Does the idea of having a worn down wooden platform where your employees can charge their phones out in the dining area exemplify your concept of a dining atmosphere? Questions ... more questions than complaints but frankly when chairs are piled on top of each other in the dining area and things look old and dirty well I really wonder about what I will be eating. And, then this "new restaurant's" extremely limited plastic coated menu's look like they have been in use for decades (Did you just relocate and decide the old menu's with the HIGH PRICED RAMEN were ok for your new customers?)! And, what's up with having your customers touch old pens that other customers have put in their fingers to complete the dining requests? Do you not trust your wait staff to get orders correct? And, looking at the pen holder on our table ... well let's just say DIRTY and OLD came to mind ... I washed my hands after completing my order, which is where I discovered all the cleaning supplies and tools out in plain view and the vanity that has never been painted showcasing bare cheap wood to all who use the facilities ... two coats of inexpensive Benjamin Moore paint would have made such a huge difference but perhaps the problem is the employees can't use tools such as pens and paint brushes that require a minimal amount of digital dexterity. Did I mention the HIGH PRICES? And, LIMITED MENU? If you visit Ramen Wakana you will be paying a few dollars more than any Ramen restaurant in Philadelphia or South Jersey and you get the dirty dining area as your bonus. And, the menu is one of the most limited ones I have ever seen, which should lower the costs since fewer supplies are needed. Ok, why the two stars and not the one that this place clearly deserves? Well, we enjoyed the food. The pork gyoza were perfection ... truly yummy! Our group went two ways for the RAMEN. Shrimp ($13) for two and the other two picked the Chicken (Also a steep THIRTEEN DOLLARS); our noodle choices were all straight but one firm and two normal (A nice option). When presented the Ramen looked appealing and the first taste was yummy. The ajitama (eggs) looked right, the proteins were evident and cooked right but the "vegetables" ONE baby bok Choi were limited and yes there was evidence of the scallions (bits of them) in the broth. And, my firm noodles ... well they were the same texture as the normal which probably leaned towards their "soft" category. Maybe 1 1/2 stars. Still it tasted good and was filling. My suggestion ... it's time for the owner/manager to pay some attention to their restaurant (see the other comment on Yelp about the vaping employee), add some paint, clean up what looks old and used, and adjust the prices to match what you are serving (that means lower then). A high price Ramen should be filled with ingredients not just a good tasting liquid meal. A high priced Ramen restaurant should have more options and customers shouldn't have to fill in a photo copy sheet of paper with their orders.

Amazing food and service! Very good price for big portions and the sashimi is also very fresh unlike other places that use coloring on their fish.

Excellent Ramen!!! Definitely recommend... ingredients were fresh and everyone at the table enjoyed there food. Lots of options including sushi. We ordered water and were not offered refills on our beverages ... other than that - it was a very positive experience.

Food is ok. Service is good. Ambiance isn't super great--the wallpaper is obnoxious. Food is decent enough, but their ramen sucks.

Went here based on a friend's recommendation. I don't know how they came up with this…read morerecommendation, but I won't be back, nor recommend it. I've been to several Japanese sushi and seafood buffets before and can say without a doubt, this was the worst. Sushi rolls were mediocre, like supermarket sushi rolls on discount day. I was expecting more. This was the only item that was passable. The Chinese side of it was terrible. Cold seafood, when it's supposed to be hot. Duck that was cold and bony/fat and should have been warm and better tasting. The spare ribs were dry, like hours on the line and everyone avoided it. Soups were bland, and warm. The hot and sour was the worst one I tasted in the last 30 years. No oysters. No crab legs. Desserts were pretty much all frozen and nondescript. I had the chocolate cupmice cream and it was ok. On a positive note, the service was good, as they cleaned off old plates, and refilled drinks when asked. So, bottom line. One star for the food.

This place is a solid 10/10 feels like a cruise buffet, but even better because they offer hotpot…read moretoo! It's a great spot to go with friends. I just found out it's part of a chain, so I'll definitely be checking out the other locations to see if they measure up. Very clean environment and fast service. I went there on a weekday and I sure they would put even more food on the weekends!
