    MIni Karaage don

We arrived on a rainy Saturday about 11:30 AM and the place was full. We were offered a shared table, which we took. Then 5 minutes later a table for 2 opened and they offered it to us. Nice! We got their signature Tonkotsu Ramen and the Red Tonkotsu, as well as a mini Chicken Karaage don (which we really didn't need...) We chose the fatty Chashu, green onions and thin noodles for both Ramens, I suppose we should have mixed it up a bit, but our choices were great. The classic Tonkotsu was really good, the broth was on the light side, not overly rich, which complimented the fatty-delicious ChaShu perfectly. Perfect poached egg, a couple sheets of nori and a very generous portion of fresh, chewy noodles. Yum. My red was identical, except for the chili oil and the smear of gochujang on the rim of the bowl - really nice for designing your own level of hotness. Equally delicious. The mini-don was totally superfluous, the soup was more than enough, but the chicken was very crispy-tasty. So... Nice Room, quick and friendly service, really satisfying ramen from a Japanese chef who knows tonkotsu is supposed to taste like, killer chashu - all add up to an excellent experience. We want to try the GyoKai versions and gyoza next time....

Really authentic ramen, happy I came here. Soup tasted fantastic, I got the ramen with dipping sauce.

This is place located in a very cramped strip center. It does not look like much on the outside but inside it is clean, well lit and staffed by genuine Nihon-Jin. The meal was delivered quick and hot and I would recommend this place for Ramen.

Calgary seems to have a revolving wheel of new ramen places opening up. So unfair. I tried hitting up Ramen Ichinen a few months ago but they were closed the day we went (we went next door to Fat Kee Noodle House). Well, on my last trip, I made sure it was open and we arrived just before they opened on an early Saturday morning. Hours could be better. They close at 8:00pm and aren't open on Sundays. The logo reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on. Very Naruto-esque. The inside is nice and quite spacious compared to your usual ramen joints. I like how the menu is small and focused with only 5 types of ramen to choose from. - Cha shu bowl ($2.00) - this is the perfect appetizer. We got a mix of tender and really dry cha shu. I tried to soften up the dried ones once I got my ramen bowl but it was a lost cause. - Chicken karaage bowl ($2.00) - karaage was much better; well seasoned, tender and crispy. - Original tonkotsu ramen ($14.00) - we both opted for the fatty cha shu, vegetables and thick noodles. It should be "vegetables" because it's literally a handful of arugula. I tried the broth and we both agreed that it wan't bad but it lacked in depth. - Tonkotsu red ramen ($15.00) - nice touch that they put the spicy chili paste on the side so you can drop as much or little as you want in your broth. On it's own, it lacked depth. I ended up adding all the paste to give it some oomph and flavour. Noodles were passable. I can't see the thin noodles working well with their broth. Couple dollars pricier than some of the other ramen options. I'd say it's worth a try. 3.5 stars.

WOAH. What a solid ramen restaurant! Directions: This place has a weird location. It is located not directly behind the Mcdonalds. Before hitting Sun Ridge Motives make a right into the road and you'll see restaurants lined up to your left. That's where this hidden treasure is located! We came in pretty late at about 7:30 but luckily they were able to feed us! With such a limited menu I opted for the Tonkotsu Red Ramen. While you do get the option to choose the spicy level, if you don't say anything they'll add the extra spice to the side of your bowl. The broth itself was flavorful and not the typical oily broth you receive. It was AMAZING. The pork itself while fatty and thick was a bit on the saltier end. And the thin noodles compared to the thick aren't that much different but imagine the thick to be a SHIN RAMEN noodle thickness and the thin to be a bit less than that. Overall, a great spot to warm you up!

This Japanese owned and been around for 3 years now. They were originally in banff and moved to Calgary. I Had the original Tonkatsu Ramen with thin noodles ( like angel hair), lean pork, and half green onions and half leafy greens. Ramen is delicious and noodles are fresh. Staff are very pleasant and came by several times to check on me. Space is cozy and their Facebook has regular posts if out of soup. It's popular and gets busy. Also offer a vegan ramen $15 and veggie ramen $13.50. I will be back to try the spicy version.

    Tsukemen

The most unique feature about this ramen shop is their Tsukemen. Not many ramen shops in calgary serve this type of ramen yet, therefore it became the most eye catching place for me to want to try. The noodles in the Tsukemen comes naturally firmer than broth ramen and it does not get soggy over the course of your meal. After you finish your noodles, you can ask for them to fill your bowl with additional broth for drinking. They are quite busy during lunch hours and often times will run low on broth for dinner service. Because of this, I'd advise you to eat there during lunch or if you can't make lunch service, call them ahead of time to make sure they have sufficient broth to serve your party.

The Ramen was sooo good!! I got the red ramen with extra spicy miso, greens, and pork belly. Delicious! We also ordered the Matcha ice cream which is to die for! If you leave without ordering the matcha you are doing yourself a disservice. Once everyone at the table took their first spoonful we all knew we needed a second order. Great place!

Finally made it up here for lunch. Service was friendly and attentive, despite being a packed house. We had the lunch special + $2 for the most savoury karrage bowl. The green onions were so fresh, I could taste mirin in the sauce. The chicken was crispy, the rice perfect. So good. I ordered thick noodles with red tonkatsu. My husband and I both thought the red miso kicked the broth up a notch. The broth was hot (unlike Jinya in Mission), the noodles were so nice with a bit of a chew. There was so much meat. The portion of noodles to meat is 3:1. I made a piggie of myself and added more noodles +2. We will make a point of coming back for ramen and karrage. Note that they seem to always sell out of broth, so call before you come to avoid disappointment.

Very average compared to those great ramen places in Vancouver or Toronto. Unfortunately for Alberta and Calgary there are not many ramen choices.

Went to ichinen couple times recently. Staffs are friendly and kind, place is bit small but warm, tables are seperated so the social distancing is good during these covid days. The food here is really good. Tried the spicy, black garlic and normal ramen. Soup is cooked properly, everything tastes exactly the same I had when I was in Japan(probably even better). Spicy tonkatsu ramen is a must try. The only thing is that, although they say they will open till 8pm, soup usually sold out at around 7pm.

I looked for Ramen places on google and came across this restaurant. They have been around for a few years but I had never noticed them before. When we went in we were greeted and told that we could sit anywhere. My son wanted to sit at the sushi bar side but we elected to sit at a table. The restaurant is not very big with seating for maybe 20. Menus were already on the table. Not an extensive menu. A selection of ramen, Rice dishes, sides, and beverages. We ordered 2 Tonkotsu Ramen with extra noodles and a Tonkatsu (Pork cutlets with rice). We also had a side order of salmon sashimi. Everyone had waters and I ordered a tea. The ramen was really good. Broth not too salty. Not as layered flavour that we have tasted from other places but still very good. Noodles are the curly ones and picked up the flavour of the broth nicely. The Tonkatsu was good. A little dry - had to use the sauce extensively. The salmon sashimi appy was good. It came with a home made wasabi dressing/sauce. To end the meal they gave us complimentary ice cream. Nice touch. Staff were really friendly and appreciative that we came by. My son needed to use the washroom a couple of times and it was clean. Will definitely come back again for the ramen. Family enjoyed our meal.

I love how none of the fish was wasted and the entire fish was edible. Overall, highly recommend this place if you are looking for fresh fish and quite authentic flavors. Be prepared to leave smelling a bit smokey though due to the open kitchen. But it's great that you can watch them prepare some of the food.
