We were craving a change in flavors during our trip, so we thought we'd take a chance on an interesting-looking ramen spot here in Granada.
I have to preface this with the fact that I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, where ramen can be akin to a religion, and this is clearly not meant to be a comparison to any spots back in California (especially not the OG Ramen Dojo in San Mateo!)
No wait on a Friday at 1. The interior is loud and proud, with tons of (copyrighted) anime art and characters covering the walls and even the ceilings. There are huge anime statues and a cabinet with figurines, and it feels very fun inside.
The menu is extensive, and the best thing is that all allergens are clearly marked, which is a blessing for anyone with dietary restrictions.
The pork and shrimp gyozas were well-cooked and had a good flavor.
The breading on the chicken katsu was more like chicken tender breading instead of classic Japanese katsu, but the curry was nicely seasoned, and it's all served over a ludicrously large portion of white rice.
The "Dan Dan" noodles were misnamed, which I knew going in. I was hoping for a punchy, spicy Tantanmen, and received instead a fairly pale, mild bowl with a nice broth, but very little chili oil. The ground pork could have also used a bit more seasoning, and the inclusion of raw slivered onions wasn't my favorite, but overall it still hit the spot.
For travelers who are in our very specific situation of being tapas-ed out and wanting something different while in Granada, Ramen Dojo is a decent option, and one we wouldn't mind repeating if we were in need of a change of pace! read more
