Between Sydney and Melbourne there is no other Indian/Fijian option even approaching this hidden gem in south-central Canberra (Pearce). On some dishes it is possible you may not find something comparable in either of those cities either...

Ramas has authentic spice and taste. I highly recommend any of the chef specialties, especially the Fijian pork and and the chicken.
Spice-wise, when they tell you it is hot, they mean it! I appreciate that and for any North Americans missing flavor and spice, this is
Their customer service is good, too. They responded quickly to a request for a different table, brought extra water, actually checked in, and once brought some complimentary bread. The owner is usually there and she periodically comes around and asks how everything is, which is nice.
Things to know:
It is BYO alcohol or there's a dank, sketchy shop next door where you can buy booze from a 4 year old and possibly.
Good place for kids in the warm weather cause you can sit outside and let them run around a pedestrian courtyard (I recommend you let them bring scooters)
Reasons I almost gave it a 4 instead of a 5:
The dining room is a bit cramped, the palak paneer was weaker and less flavorful than I would like, and once in a blue moon the Fijian pork is overcooked making it taste tired, almost burned, but that is super rare and made up for she it IS en pointe. And the papandum is most probably store-bought and cooked ahead of time.
That said, I will gladly overlook those things and the trip down from North Canberra for a trip to this wonderful spot, anytime. read more
