While Banana Leaf is certainly an expensive place to go for dinner, the flavors, presentation, ambience, and sheer quality of the dishes definitely merit a 5-star review. I hadn't had Sri Lankan food before, and was eager to try it and see what the buzz was about. I went with a group at 18:30 on a Wednesday night, and were seated without delay (the place was almost empty at this time). Service was quick, with the server frequently stopping by to fill our water and ask if we had questions or additional orders. The interior layout was spacious and modern while at the same time feeling intimate and classy. It's a small thing, but I liked the pale green glass candle holders they had at the tables. I ordered the roti with lentil dip as an appetizer and found it DELICIOUS. This wasn't roti as I was used to having -- this had a more pronounced buttery sweetness which I found amazing. For my main, I ordered the spicy prawn curry. Absolutely outstanding, generously portioned, with a level of heat that was just right (I like spicy food, and ordered it 'extra spicy). The sauce was exquisite, but I actually have to say my favorite part was the little saucer of coconut sambal on the side. I'd heard stories about this stuff -- man, I could eat a rice bowl full. So awesome. I'll definitely come back here. Yes, it's pricey, but the food is both delicious and unique. Service is excellent and there's a great ambience. I'd say this place is best suited to a dinner date, and not a family or social group dinner. read more

There's only one word to describe this place - "yum". I've peered through their windows a few times and passed on by, but I'm so glad I went in to have dinner tonight. From the outset, the service is attentive and respectful, but informal and friendly. The atmosphere is nice, but I suspect it can get pretty busy later on. I really enjoyed the Pumpkin Soup of the day - served delicately spiced as promised and actually hot enough! Fantastic. My main course was the Seafood Salad - with beautifully cooked prawns, scallops, calamari and mussels on a good, fresh and colorful salad. Overall it is a very nice place to eat. Thank you - I will be back. read more

Great food, excellent service and reasonable prices. Share two Sri Lankan dishes and a bottle of wine for $90 bucks

My Sri Lankan curry was sub-par, just not worth it, so two stars from me. My co-diners chose from the contemporary Australian menu and had kangaroo. They all enjoyed it... so add 1 star. We had a rookie waitress but good service. read more

Banana Leaf is a solid spot for Malaysian/Indian fusion food. The nasi lemak was super tasty and the coconut rice was spot on, and the butter chicken was creamy and comforting. The vibe is pretty relaxed and casual, and the staff were friendly. It can get a bit busy, but the food is definitely worth it. read more
