Absolutely an amazing experience…read more I had heard some chatter a while back that Garage 17 is welcoming and accommodating to children with special needs, so I reached out to the owner, Freddy, to explain my situation and give him a rundown of my 5-year-old son's needs. From the very first message, Freddy was incredibly kind and understanding. He even offered to let us come in during regular business hours or after hours if that would make things easier for my son. I decided to come during business hours so my son's therapists could be there to support him. As expected, my son struggled a bit when he heard the clippers, but Freddy and his team were patient, calm, and completely understanding the entire time. With a little teamwork, support, toys, and snacks, we were able to get through the haircut successfully. What impressed me even more was Freddy's knowledge and attention to detail. He understood exactly what products needed to be used in my son's hair to help detangle it and make the haircut easier for him. As a parent of a child with special needs, finding businesses that are truly patient, compassionate, and willing to work with your child can be incredibly difficult. I'm so grateful to have found someone in town who genuinely cares and who we can visit regularly as my son continues to get more comfortable with haircuts. Highly recommend Garage 17!

Great, small town barber shop…read more Leland always does a great job, and is attentive and remembers cuts for regulars. Operates by appointment only (easily made online from his website) which is actually outstanding as it assures you can get in and out in a half hour or less from start to finish, rather than being luck of the draw on crowd. He can be quite booked, but I can usually find an opening fairly quickly unless it's just before a holiday. My 10 year-old son needed a haircut, and I figured this was a good way to find out if they were any good. If they messed up ... at least it was on someone else's hair! I'm happy to report that my son loved his haircut. His barber was DuMauriea "Thee Hair Razor" Williams. We had a little friendly banter about baseball, heard a story about the ginormous trophy he won at a haircutting competition (on display in the front window), and generally had a good time. My son said, "it was very fun and I love my haircut." While this looks like a solidly African-American barber shop, they gave my white kid an awesome cut too. No matter what kind of hair you need cut, I highly recommend checking out this place. I know we'll be back!
