Don't shop here if you're a K-State or Mizzou fan. As I was at checkout (wearing my Mizzou sweatshirt), I asked if they had ever had Mizzou merch because I had sworn I had seen some before. The cashier told me no and added that they only carry "relevant" teams. I would have attributed it to us being in Kansas if her and the other guy behind the counter hadn't started snickering. The pair behind the counter added that hopefully Kansas State would be discontinued at their store soon too because they only want those "relevant" teams. Meanwhile, my two friends were literally in the process of buying K-State merchandise. As we walked out, the pair continued laughing. I'll never go back. read more

The customer service here is terrible. My kids bought me a sweatshirt for Christmas, and it was too big. I went in and asked them if they could return this one and order me another one and I could pick up in the store or they could ship. She told me they can't do orders, so I asked her if she could call another store. She looked online and told me Oak Park has one in my size, but she can't guarantee the computer is correct. I asked her to call and if they have it, could they hold it since they only have 1 and I would drive over there - she said they can't do that. So, I asked her what she could do - she said refund the card it was purchased on or give you a gift card and you can go shop at other stores or order online. I said, fine, I will take a gift card and order online - she then proceeded to tell me the gift card would not work for several hours. Why have a store with employees, if you can't help the customer. Great place to go if you're a family divided on teams because they sell apparel for many teams. And you don't have to drive out to the home city of the team to get their gear. It's also great if you have friends visiting and you want to get them something from Kansas City. They have bbq sauce, KC books, and even post cards. This location has a great selection for KU, but is minimal for the other teams. They also have pretty steep prices. ***This location does NOT carry MU gear anymore*** Now I'm NOT a MU fan but I went to buy a gift for my best friend who is. The clerk told me I'd have to go to their Overland Park store or to Columbia, MO for it because they shipped their MU stuff out. So I was a little annoyed that they quit carrying one team, but their other store off 95th is huge so hopefully I'll find what I need there. Overall I like the store and know I can usually find great team apparel there. read more

I used to make the trek to Lawrence to go to the Union bookstore if I wanted to get my Jayhawk gear fix, but if I'm visiting my family in Olathe, I can stop here instead and know that I'll find pretty much anything I need. I've gotten licence plate frames, solid metal emblems, hats, clothing, and decals here, most of which had multiple options from which to choose. All college teams in the local vicinity are represented, as are KC's pro teams. You'll even find Kansas-state-centric things like Wizard of Oz merch. If you are running out of ideas for gifts, these might serve the purpose well. Kansas Sampler fills a need admirably. Keep up the good work. read more

We went to Kansas Sampler to get a Christmas gift (this is after Christmas). The store was busy, but that can be expected at this time of year. I walked the whole store without encountering a salesperson. Finally I found the merchandise I wanted. The problem is it was too high and I had to have someone get it down. Once she got it down I had to ask for a price because no merchandise was marked. Finally I am ready to go get in line. Once in line they moved the line because they didn't want it blocking aisles. So we did that. Then two people at the counter leave so I walk up to one of the now empty spots. I am informed by the lady working there that she isn't ringing people up. I get back in line and wait my turn for one of the people who was helping customers. I spent $85 in there and had to deal with their rude service. I may return it if I can find the items elsewhere just because of their lack of service. When I left I commented that they had quite a line and most people were spending $100+, so they really shouldn't have a supervisor on the register refusing to help people. She got snotty with me. We will not be back for anything more than a potential return of these items. read more

As a whole, Kansas Sampler is a solid store. They have all you may possibly need for the Chiefs, KU, K-State, and the Royals. Heck, they also have more obscure schools like Pitt State. My uncle in Atlanta is a Pitt State grad and I always think about getting him something from Kansas Sampler. I never do...but I always think about it... :) Kansas Sampler also has a decent selection of "Kansas" stuff - spices, BBQ sauces, Wizard of Oz stuff, wheat products, and clothing. They had a cool Ad Astra Per Aspera shirt that I keep thinking about picking up as a proud Kansas resident. This location specifically has tons of parking as the shopping center it is in is rather empty and small. People are quite friendly and always asking if you need help finding anything. This Kansas Sampler, more than any other one I have been to, is ridiculous cluttered. Maybe that's the wrong term...they have everything organized, but there is so MUCH of it in such a small space that it's difficult to get around at times, and can feel like a one-lane bridge in Scotland if you meet someone going the other direction. You'll inevitably knock over at least one thing. Just hope it's a short and not a glass. My biggest con of Kansas Sampler as a whole is their lack of Sporting KC stuff. As a huge Sporting fan, that can be a bummer. The one by Oak Park Mall is better, but all other locations, including this one, have very little selection. read more

Kansas Sampler is a fun store for all of your local sports teams. I found the staff here to be helpful and friendly. Every once in a while they will have specials going on. Frankly, I don't even know how this place survives since they are off in a corner that is not well traveled. Businesses have not moved into this location and it's a poor design too. You have to go through several roundabouts just to get to this place. Anyway, it's off of the highway so it works if you are in a hurry. read more

I went to Kansas Sampler looking for souvenirs to give to two foreign students who were living with us. In years past, I have always been able to find unique "Kansas" items. What I found this year was one set of shelves dedicated to Kansas with key chains, mugs, shot glasses, and decals. Nothing really pretty for two teenage girls. I finally found two bookmarks that were extremely over-priced. If I find something else somewhere else, these items will be returned. The staff tried to be helpful, hence the 1 star, but they truly had nothing. For a store that calls itself "Kansas Sampler" I would think they would have more than just sports apparel. I can get that at Dick's Sporting Goods, Academy Sports, WalMart, Target, Kohl's, PriceChopper, HyVee, HenHouse, ............. You get my point. read more

It's very hard to move through the store with the narrow isles. When you purchase something they seem awfully quick to offer a gift receipt. When I tried to return an item I found out why. They will not refund your money they only offer a store credit. read more
