If mind-numbing, hair pulling AGGRAVATION is your goal, build a home with Elite (aka Arbor &…read moreClayton Homes). The homes are pretty but they make committments they have no intention of honoring. Our mortgage broker repeatedly warned us NOT to build with Elite because he knew their reputation. We bought a spec home thinking we were side-stepping the aggravation of building with Elite but we were wrong. As the primary HOA manager while a community is being built, Elite collects the community funds but does not use them on proper maintenance of the community then turns over the community to the residents in horrible shape. Your HOA will be facing an immediate increase of rates when the community is turned over from management by Elite. People will continue to buy this product because it is pretty but you have been warned. Seek out Mason Homes or Orthober or a builder in that league. Yes, they are more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I want to start by saying how grateful I am that our building process is finally behind us. After…read moretwo long weeks post-closing, we're beginning to enjoy parts of our new home. That said, this journey has been far from easy. Over the past year, I've been let down time and again by issues I never expected, and in hindsight, I wish I had asked more questions along the way. For most people, a home is the single largest investment they'll ever make. After 13 years in our $139k starter home, my husband John and I were beyond excited to build our dream home and chose Elite based on its reputation for quality and customer care. Unfortunately, our experience didn't reflect that standard. As a project manager and an engineer, we pay close attention to detail and value craftsmanship. While the design process started strong and the early stages of construction were exciting, the quality of workmanship and oversight quickly became disappointing. Here are just a few examples of our experience: Appliances: Our "premium kitchen" includes luxury pieces paired with low-end, undersized items like the microwave--something we'll now have to replace. Front Doors: My dream double walnut doors were mistakenly painted black. The "fix" involved painting over them with brown paint, leaving a cheap finish. We eventually hired another company to refinish them correctly. Selections vs. Reality: Several items installed didn't match what we selected--garage doors, windows, and finishes. Doors were painted instead of ordered in the correct finish, and the difference is noticeable. Painting: The overall paint job throughout the home is sloppy and rushed, not at all reflective of a home in this price range. Master Bathroom: The tile floor has been torn out and redone twice already due to poor workmanship. I could name many more examples--delays, inconsistencies, and careless work--but the bottom line is that the process fell far short of expectations. What should have been a joyful milestone has instead left us feeling disappointed and hesitant to show off our new home. To be fair, I want to acknowledge that our project manager, is doing his best. But one person cannot effectively manage an entire neighborhood of builds. The subcontractors, in particular, need to be held to much higher standards. The few bright spots were the plumbing, cabinetry, and flooring crews, who did great work. In the end, I wanted to love this process and proudly recommend Elite. Instead, my honest review is 2 out of 5 stars. I'm ready to move forward and put this chapter behind me, but I hope my feedback helps improve the experience for future homeowners.

From start to finish, the building process went very smoothly and was a lot more easygoing than I expected. JD was very professional and was great to work with as the general contractor for my home. Whenever things started to slow down or there were areas that needed some extra attention, JD was always quick to step in and take care of them. That was very reassuring throughout the process and gave me confidence that things were going to get done the way they should. One of the things I really appreciated about Taylor Homes was their flexibility. They stayed true to their word when it came to refunds for items I chose to complete myself rather than having them do the work. I really liked having that option--you can pick and choose certain things you want to take care of on your own, and they provide the appropriate refund rather than forcing you to pay for work you don't need them to complete. Being able to build on a private lot also made the entire process very easygoing. Overall, I feel Taylor Homes offers very good value, especially with today's construction costs. For a 1,700-square-foot home, I feel their pricing is very competitive when you look at the price per square foot. I would absolutely recommend Taylor Homes Building Corporation to anyone looking to build a home in this area, and I would definitely refer JD as the general contractor for any Taylor Homes build. I'm very happy with my home and with the overall experience from start to finish.

The person in charge of our build was nice enough, but didn't care about the build at all. We ended up with a house that quality wise wasn't worth the money. Taylor's customer service is so bad, I didn't even want to turn in any warranty claims because I didn't want any of their contractors to work on the house. I DO NOT recommend Taylor Homes to anyone. I wish I would have done something different.

They ordered wrong size cabinets, hired below par subcontractors, were not on site to manage sub contractors or work, did not complete the home but attempted to charge us over 90 percent of the contract price by November of 2025 while still having months to go on the house. When we told them we needed to talk about the project and lack of completion they stopped answering calls and texts and basically abandoned the work without any notice. These people talk a good story but fail to complete what they say and have little respect for timelines or quality of the work being done, Some of their subcontractors are questionable at best as far as quality and reliability of their work. They also failed to communicate wit us about issues, problems and constant delays in getting the house completed but were always there when a bill needed to be paid or they wanted to be paid. I would not recommend these people for any type of major work or construction.

This is the second major…read moreproject DB has done for us, and the second one where there WAS NOT ONE PROBLEM FOR US during the project. The first was a partial bathroom renovation, which included tearing out and replacing a master bath shower that had leaked for years, with the addition of a skylight in the shower. I needed to stay in my master bedroom while the work was being done, and DB was very careful to leave everything tidy at the end of the day so I could live in the construction zone. The workmanship was flawless. Three years later, it looks as good as the day it was finished. The kitchen project was a complete gut, with an expansion to encompass what had been a porch, and the addition of a new porch. The house was built in 1926, and keeping the original look was important to us. We also had a limited amount of space in which to work. DB came up with a design to maximize storage and utility in a modest space. They carefully removed the old brick and reused it, so the addition is seamless. The original built-in oak icebox was removed, refurbished, and re-purposed as a focal cabinet. The custom cabinetry was designed to mimic the original cabinetry which was too worn to salvage. As expected after the first project, the workmanship is beautiful. We couldn't move out during the construction, so neatness counted. The workspace was cleaned every day so that we never felt overwhelmed by the construction mess. We worked with the owner and a 2-person crew, who we got to know well over the course of the construction. We knew our home was safe in their hands, and that they employed trustworthy subs. And, when the need arose due to medical issues, DB brought food and mowed our lawn. We actually miss them now that the job is finished! THANK YOU, DB!!
