My absolute favorite is an authentic Thai-style massage combined with deep tissue work. A couple of years ago, I spent time in Thailand and had at least a dozen massages there, so I have a pretty good idea of what a great Thai massage should feel like. This was genuinely one of the best massages of my life! My massage therapist, Jennie, was absolutely incredible. She clearly knew what she was doing and had the experience and technique to back it up. She twisted, stretched, and folded me into positions I didn't even know my body could manage. At one point, my feet were literally above my head! She even commented on how flexible I was. I told her she was basically turning me into a pretzel! The attention to detail was outstanding. Hot towels, hot stones, and these wonderfully warm weighted beanbags placed on my back and then my stomach when I turned over. Toward the end, Jennie used a hot towel behind my neck while stretching it, which felt amazing. Every little detail seemed thoughtfully designed to make the experience better. Despite the intensity of some of the stretching and deep tissue work, Jennie was extremely professional and checked in regularly to make sure the pressure was exactly where I wanted it. And it wasn't just me! My wife had Annie as her massage therapist and thought she was fantastic. Our 26-year-old son also had a massage and absolutely loved it. I've experienced massages in Thailand and around the world, and Banyan Tree Spa is right up there with the very best. I had lunch next door, been on the island 3 days, passed numerous strip mall spa locations and of course my Marriotts Resort had Spa massages at Twice the price. Popped in with no appointment. I had my island crew with me and asked if they can fit me in. Front staff was awesome, friendly, and accommodating. Answer was YES at 3pm if that fits your schedule. That was the magic timeframe in my mind. It Was Meant to Be. I dropped my crew at the resort, took a quick shower, I don't like to be sticky or sweaty for my masseuse. Arrived 10 minutes early and "Anne" was ready for me. She escorted me to the couples room, asked if there was any issues with my body, I stated I have sciatica but it hasn't flared up for six months. She stated to undress "To my Comfort" and lie face up. Face Up??? I've never started a massage that way. She stated, I do things different, I start with your head, like a champagne bottle, make your brain POP, then your arms legs and then the flip so your back is the coup de grâce. It wasn't a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, Swedish, or deep tissue massage. Anne has 30 plus years experience. She incorporates all that she's learned into her own method.
