This is not your typical bakery, they do the most divine artisan breads, sour dough, pies, sausage rolls and pastries. Pies with divine tasty fillings and pastry that is soft, crunchy and flakey all at the same time. But the real winner is their vanilla slice, get in quick as they ALWAYS sell out by lunch time. Perfect for a quick lunch time snack but also perfect for an afternoon treat to take home to share. Best bakery I've been to in a while.

I went into the Ferny Way Bakery to grab a pie after leaving my computer for repair at a nearby shop. Inside the bakery I was met with a friendly smile and the uplifting scent of freshly baked goods. I looked over what was in the store and I was amazed at the range and the sheer beauty of the breads, rolls, cakes and pies in the store. When I finally managed to get myself to the pie cabinet there was a huge variety for me to choose from and being the simple man I am I got the steak and mushroom pie. It tasted delicious. The pastry that held it together was thick on the bottom and crusty on top. The filling was a perfect balance of gravy, chunky meat and mushrooms. There was no need to insult this pie with tomato sauce. On the way out I noticed a humble little award stuck to the wall on the way out. Apparently Ferny Way Bakery won the best bakery in Queensland award in 2010. Good work.

Their all day menu gives plenty of options and all items feature a focus on fresh ingredients and a good dose of wholesome nutrition. I had the brekkie wrap this morning with mushrooms, spinach, eggs and onion relish. For less than a tenner it set me up for a day of errand running. There's no effort from the staff to rush you and it's become a great spot to bring my notebook for a session to gather my thoughts before really getting into the day. On top of the first incline I found myself in need of food, luckily enough I knew there was a bakery nearby. Being the first time at the Hilltop bakery for some reason I thought it was going to be stocked with the post night nosh I needed. I mean there was heaps of bread but the place was shy on any variety of savoury goods. The only option, the cheese and bacon rolls were practically naked of topping and cost me $3. When I asked for the roll with the most bacon and cheese on it I was informed that they remove from the rear of the display racks first. Sill woozy from the previous night's activities and tired from the walk I just took what I got and left. I didn't have enough gusto left to argue.
