After many years at Allstate, I thought it might be time to see if I could save money by switching…read morecompanies. I was told by trusted others that State Farm had saved them money. So a quick Google search found me Glenn Barath. I talked with him by phone and was very impressed with him. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable. He had answers to all my questions and I had many of them! It is not an easy decision to switch insurance companies. And there are so many agents out there. But I felt very comfortable talking to him. He was honest and did not try to sweet-talk me. He was able to give me a quote within 15 minutes of talking. A quote that saved me more than I thought possible. And there was no pressure after he gave the quote. He told me to take time and think about switching if I needed to. And that is rare these days. There is always pressure everywhere you go to make a decision that minute. I also know I could have still switched to State Farm but found another State Farm agent. But I really like Glenn. Knowlegable, friendly, and no-pressure....what more can you ask more?!

To be completely honest, for more years than I'd like to admit, I never really paid attention to…read moreour insurance agents. Then our accident happened. A driver hit us head-on going over 80 mph. During our stay in a nursing home, Glenn not only took it upon himself to develop relationships with our family members, but came to visit us often. He kept us informed of what was happening without us even asking and gave us information he knew we'd need for our lawsuit. The most surprising and heartwarming part is that he cared enough to visit us at night, after "work hours".....compassion in his eyes and always doing his best to lighten our burden. Glenn has proved to us time and again that he's not only an amazing insurance agent, but an even more amazing human being. When it comes to insurance needs, forget being in good hands.....it's far more important to be in a great heart.

I preface my review by saying I'm sure Lafata is the cat's meow when it comes to helping folks file…read moretaxes and get whatever refunds are coming to them (or minimize what's owed). My particular review is for another matter that I was requested to get advise from a tax specialist. Now that the "fun" part is done with the purchase of D and I's new home, part of my new fun is selling my existing home. To do so there are various fixes that need to be done to make it market ready. I don't have a lot of extra cash but hoped to sell some shares from a Roth I've been contributing to for well over a decade to help pay some of those costs. My mutual fund company is being extra cautious in selling the shares I requested. In a nutshell I can take back money I've contributed (assuming I've contributed for at least 5 years) but not money that was earned. On that end they sent me a list of all my transactions over the decade or so that I've contributed and suggested I talk to a tax specialist and seek their opinion as far as what I can sell. That's where Lafata comes in. I figured I would likely need a tax service in 2017 to help me file both a non-resident Illinois tax form (since for the time being I will continue to work at my company in IL) and a part-year resident Indiana tax form, so why not try to establish a relationship with a specialist now. I called them on the 12th and the receptionist was polite and transferred me to a tax specialist. But the tax specialist was confused on what and why I needed their help. I explained the best I could and finally he asked for my phone number and said he would call back later in the evening since he was currently busy with other customers. That's totally understandable since it is "tax season" now. But as of the 18th no call. The least he could've done was schedule an appointment for me to come over so I could show and explain my situation more clearly. I contacted another tax service and they were just as confused by my request but they did schedule a time for me to stop by and present my information. I have doubts about the other service as well but will reserve judgment for after my appointment.

I let them know I was dissatisfied and was going elsewhere, instead of canceling my policy I was charged within minutes of my phone call. Meanwhile I was already on the phone with my other agent. I also sent two different emails out two different individuals. I was told I would receive a document to cancel the policy which never came which is fine you can omit it as I have told you now a dozen times you no longer have consent to withdrawal funds from any of my accounts.

If they come across a problem with my accounts or find any insurance coverage they think might be helpful to me they always call and offer me a chance to upgrade. For example, a bank quoted me a ridiculous amount for yearly homeowners insurance which would add an extra $300 a month to the mortgage and without even purchasing the new home, that same day, his office staff worked me up a quote which was 1/3 of what the bank was quoting me. Making the decision a lot easier. They keep continuing on doing a good job for me and my family.

The issue is, when she's absent, the treatment you receive is miles from acceptable and questionable, to say the least, toward people of darker skin tones. I had an experience there with Rachel (dark haired older lady) and a person I believed to be named Amber that I will never forget. I came in to get a quote on renewing my insurance and neither of them could do that. Rachel asked me to leave in a rude, flippant, manner after mumbling "we don't do those on weekends," and after I mentioned how rude she was, She replied with "that's fine. you can leave." To my surprise, the other, Amber, proceeded to stand up and help escort me out. WITH HER HANDS. The incident was so out of pocket, I called the police. After paying car insurance FAITHFULLY AND ON TIME FOR OVER TWO YEARS WITH THIS COMPANY, I was horrified. The owner, Doug, did call and apologize a short time later. However, the damage was already done. I would never suggest doing business with this company, especially if you are a minority, as it is clear that when certain people are absent, etiquette is thrown out of the window. My suggestion: pick another; you won't regret it later. I am now with State Farm.
