My son (4 yrs) is obsessed with pirates and when I learned about the tall ships coming to our area I figured he might enjoy it. We were originally scheduled to do a sunset sail from San Francisco, but was called and emailed the week before to either book the battle sail from Oakland instead (same day and time, at no additional cost) or rebook for Sunday from SF. We chose the battle sail since it was more convenient for us anyways. The sail itself was really fun and my son had a blast. The crew was incredibly helpful and kind to him, answering his questions and letting him help with things like coiling rope and raising the sails. When the "instructor" was finally pulled away from scrolling on her phone, instead of using the situation as a learning/ teaching opportunity she got an attitude. I was told that "different people do things differently" and "we can't help what people promise over the phone"!?! Okay, then what is the point of it being a teaching academy?!? PLUS, I ended up with a scalp infection bc they didn't use my brush/comb like they had agreed to. They used a random one that was pulled out of a drawer and scrubbed the one spot very hard before I could stop her and that's exactly where it became infected. AND they absolutely butchered my haircut... it took 2 years for it to grow back out to where it was supposed to be cut at (& that's WITHOUT any trims bc now I'm afraid to let anyone else touch it).
