BEWARE. Owner took in specialty job, botched it in several ways, avoided my calls for weeks, offered no apologies, and in-store meeting for resolution showed her character as self-serving and emotionally immature. If you're considering trusting Artee Fabrics with anything valuable--read this first. Their negligence and then evasion and disrespect really hurt me. On April 2, 2025, I brought a piece of vintage hand-loomed Indian silk to Artéé Fabrics & Home to be made into a custom bolster pillow cover. I requested a smooth fit against the pillow--which I had brought in--with a hidden zipper (for later dry cleaning of the fabric)--and no seams at the top or bottom. I explained that the fabric was of great personal significance and that I'd been waiting decades for the right time and place to use it. The very special multicolored silk had been hand-carried from India to the U.S. in 1977 as a wedding gift from a family member. Arti Bhandari Mehta assured me everything I requested was doable and that the piece would be ready in a few weeks. When I came to pick up the finished pillow on May 3, I was utterly shocked and dismayed to find it did not match the order specifications at all. It had a loose fit, no zipper, and seams at both the top and bottom--exactly what I had asked Arti to avoid. I immediately left word with staff member Luanne that the job had been botched and I asked for the owner to call me. I expected a call within 24-48 hours. No call came. Despite multiple follow-ups with staff--Luanne (twice), Björn, and Victoria--I did not hear from Ms. Mehta until May 20, when she phoned me while I was driving. She said she'd text me so we could arrange to meet at the store to discuss resolution. She did not text. I had to call the store again. Finally, with more effort and wasted time on my part, we set a time to meet in person on May 31. At that meeting, Ms. Mehta was defensive, and completely unwilling to be still and listen. She spun things in self-justifying tones and refused to acknowledge any error or offer an apology. She also dismissed the significance of the fabric by saying, "20 years is not an heirloom." I clarified that I'd had the fabric since 1977 and that it had already been considered special when given to me. It was made clear to me that this was "very good" material, selected and saved for me as a wedding gift. Ms. Mehta also denied ever showing me a zipper with a flap and insisted her shop does not ever install zippers in that manner-- that I got that wrong and implying I was untrustworthy and misrepresenting the original agreement. She further claimed the silk was too thin and had a weak warp, making it unsuitable for a zipper. However, she had personally handled the fabric at the time of order and raised no such concerns, even as I specified that the zipper should be placed in the back, with no seams showing at the top or bottom. I presented a calm, clearly written one-page resolution with two options for moving forward. Ms. Mehta refused both with a sharp "I'm not doing that. Sue me if you want to." Her only offer was to either add a hidden zipper to the flawed cover--an option I did not trust would be properly executed--or to return my $54 deposit, only if I accepted the flawed pillow as-is. When I declined those limited options, she attempted to withhold the pillow, stating I could not take it unless I agreed to her terms. I responded that both the pillow and fabric were mine. She then ordered me to leave the store. I invited her to call the police and said we could continue the conversation outside with their witness. She then accused me of "going around to stores and doing things like this." I denied the absurd accusation and pointed out that she was projecting who she was. I took the pillow and left--without refund. I went directly to the local police station to document the incident and left a written statement. The officer confirmed it was not a criminal matter but encouraged me to pursue complaints through public channels such as Yelp, Trustpilot, Better Business Bureau, and possibly Small Claims Court. Throughout our conversation, Ms. Mehta repeatedly invented excuses in an effort to absolve herself rather than take responsibility and make things right. Among other claims, she alleged I had brought in damaged fabric. While one portion of the silk had an imperfection from long-term storage, the portion we, together, designated for the pillow cover was perfectly sound. Ms. Metha's behavior--reaching for justifications, rewriting the terms of the original order, and attempting to undermine my credibility--was a textbook example of what happens when business owners prioritize self-protection over accountability. Her refusal to take responsibility or offer a genuine remedy caused damage on multiple levels. This incident illustrates a broader and growing pattern across industries: incompetence, evasion, and blame-shifting. read more

not a reputable or trustworthy owner. Original owner rags to riches was great. ARTI, took deposit on chair cushions, held deposit for four months without providing receipt. Requested a receipt via email four times over the course of four months. Never a response. This new owner, ARTI, from Massachusetts,holds money without producing product for as long as possible. This is the second time a piece of furniture has been POORLY HANDLED AND HAD TO BE CANCELED. Do not patron this store, Vermonters. read more

Don't waste your time or your money. I ordered a several items from these people, only to learn that the manager quit, and was replaced by incompetent fools who spent the next several months lying to me. My phone calls were screened and not returned. For me to get any answers, I would have to drive the 22 miles (8X) to the store to get any answers...which would unfortunately be met with more lies. I placed my order in late February, only got my final order completed in September. A few of the simplier items, such as cushions being recovered came in early and were fine. The window valance was made incorrectly three times. Not once was did anyone at Rags and Riches keep me apprised of the status of my window treatment. I continuially had to chase them. They contiually avoided my calls,and I had to drive down to their store to find out what was going on. I was NEVER offered an apology from anyone on the staff or from Arti or Shaeker, the owners of this establishment. In fact, in the course of the back and forth of our conversations, the owner Arti screamed at me, whined about how difficult business is, and hung up on me. Why they're still in business is beyond me. They're rude, incompetent and stupid. Save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere. You'll be happier, believe me. The window treatment I received is less than what I would expect, but I'm exhausted. Not great quality. read more

Update: I returned here to help a family member with an upholstery job. In order to get into the queue, the manager demanded a down payment! I reluctantly agreed to it, and then never heard another word from early July into November. At that point, the family member had given up and purchased another couch. I called to get the deposit returned, and yes... you know what happened. I contacted several other branches of the company to find out if it's company policy to steal deposits that hadn't involved any fabric order, and I was told multiple times it's not. After a ton of hassle, my family member's credit card was reimbursed. I would be VERY careful doing business here. They may--and in fact seem-- to do good work, but I won't be back. read more

The worst possible customer service. rude And unhelpful. These are discontinued bolts that they overcharge for. The first time I went and picked fabric I returned Two weeks to pick up yardage but they were out and couldn't order. I went today To try again. I don't look great in sweats with recent eye surgery but the sales woman treated me by standing behind me with her arms crossed. She was nice to others. I was very polite and friendly. When I first walked in she neglected to tell me about uses of fabrics and details that would have speeded my mission. Both times I went I had a horrible experience as a polite smiling person ready to spend one thousand dollars. I wanted to shop local but I will get better service and prices on line. Further I would recommend using a smaller shop upholsterer in order to support art who give a hoot. Also I never write reviews! read more

Staff were pretty unfriendly and seemed annoyed when I asked for help. Most of the fabric is for upholstery types of things and I was looking for a piece to make a gown, so not a great place to go for apparel. Pretty disappointed. read more

Being under new ownership, this store has the appearance and amenities of the old one, but beware. The new manager Nancy, simple put, is an unpleasant person. No warm welcome, questions met with the distain of one interrupting, and, just plain rude to staff in front of customers. Too bad since this is the only large fabric collection in all of the Burlington area. read more

Great fabric selection for Vermont and nice folks who work there. Very helpful. Fun to walk around and look at all the textiles. They also have services for upholstery and headboards and such. I always welcome an excuse to go here. :) read more

Fantastic store! They have a great variety of gorgeous fabrics and the staff were super helpful - im making a craft project and needed foam for stuffing, the staff helped me find everything I needed and will definitely come back again! read more

This store definitely has a lot of fabric to offer! I went in looking for a basic fabric I could make a cat bed out of, and unfortunately left empty-handed. The store seemed more geared toward "serious" projects as they had a lot of curtain, outdoor, and cushion material, Not necessarily something as simple as I was looking for. I also found it difficult to see the pricing for each material. Pretty big, though! read more

This has got to be one of the best finds for refurbishing that exists. There is no creative place that exists other than this. The owners are the finest people around and that says volumes about their quality. I challenge anyone to find another way to express their artistic moments. read more
