I spoke to Whatleigh, the owner of the dogs and she was very pleasant. She said she would still be able to give a tour of the dogs and where they live even though there is no snow. She gave perfect directions to her location and gave us a fantastic tour of where her dogs live and train. She let out most of her dogs, in increments and gave us a hands on experience. My 6 year old loved it and the dogs were so friendly and sweet. Whatleigh was very informative and answered all our questions about the dogs. We plan on coming back some winter to ride the dog sleds and ride them knowing what we know now. I recommend coming here if you are visiting. Preferably in the winter I must say. I gave this business 4 stars only as I think I am missing part of the experience by not getting to ride them on the winter tour. But Ill be back to finish this review when I do.

Tearing this place down will be a great improvement to say the least. We booked for 3 nights but left after the 2nd night as we were afraid of picking up a disease. The place was filthy. The coffee maker didn't work (not that I would have used it anyway), the pots & pans were filthy as well. We didn't shower the entire time there. The water pressure was non existent. The game room was locked up leaving a set of horse shoes outside for the only entertainment. Overall, the place sucked big time and was not worth 1/4 of the price. The owners had clearly given up on the place and should feel guilty taking anyone's money. Too bad, we stayed here 5-6 years ago with different owners it was great.

I strongly urge anyone considering Getaway Mountain Campground to stay far away. Our experience…read morehere was nothing short of appalling. From the moment we checked in, the owners were extremely rude and unwelcoming. After staying for the weekend, we extended our stay due to the campground's cleanliness, thinking it would be perfect for our family, including our three children with special needs and our service animals. Unfortunately, the owner's behavior quickly escalated. One day, the man running the office drove by on his golf cart and began yelling and swearing at me, accusing us of not picking up after our dogs. I explained that we always clean up after them, but he refused to listen. We decided to leave for the weekend to avoid further conflict, but when we returned, we found piles of dog poop deliberately placed near our motorhome. Things worsened when one of our children, who is nonverbal, picked up a pile of the mess. When we addressed the issue with the office, the owner's wife not only refused to acknowledge their behavior but also accused us of lying. The man's hostile behavior escalated again, yelling and swearing at us in front of our children. He threatened to have us thrown out by the police, which he followed through on. The officers who responded could see that this was a personal issue and were baffled as to why they had been called. We were told to leave, but not before being denied a refund for the remaining days we had already paid for. To make matters worse, we've since learned that the owners of Getaway Mountain Campground have been actively calling around to other campgrounds, slandering our name. They falsely claim we don't pick up after our dogs and that my husband chased the owner with a 2x4--an outright lie. The current campground we're staying at informed us of this and has stated that they've seen no issues with us or our pets. In fact, the surrounding campers have no complaints, and the campground owner is willing to write a statement about the situation, including notifying the authorities of this baseless harassment. The entire experience left us feeling targeted and mistreated. We have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and have never encountered anything like this. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this campground at all costs. Verdict: AVOID Getaway Mountain Campground.

Several enterences to the park. 1 is across from the Price Chopper on Rt. 5 and enter lakeside. Another is on the Country Road accross from Mt. Ascutney Hospital. Park and then hike in. One of the many four-season things available is hiking. And a gem in the hiking category is the Davis Hill and Clark Lookout Trail. The first thing is that almost anyone can negotiate the trail. It is only 0.7 miles long out and back in its totality. But still, visitors should plan an hour. That's because the Clark Lookout Trail provides a spectacular, I mean, write home to mom kind of beautiful, view of Lake Sunapee and Mount Sunapee. A camera or a good quality smartphone is a must, as the views here are amazing. The Clark Lookout property cuts through a neighborhood of million-dollar homes and was made available to the residents through the generosity of Sydney L. Crook and Mary D. Haddad, who donated land and funding to the town of New London for conservation and recreation use. The trail is managed by the New London Conservation Commission. Much of the land and its conservation easements are held by the area's prime land conservation organization, the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust. For a family traveling on the Interstate that wishes to have a nice break, this spot is optimum. It is also a must for anyone visiting for the first time, as you will fall in love with the area on the spot. The trail is also amazingly dog friendly (on a leash) and poopy bag dispensers are available indifferent places. The Clark Lookout Trail starts on Rt 103-A, across from the Park and Ride lot near Exit 12 on Rte. 89. From that point, the trail climbs only 100 feet. From the Conservation Commission's description, "heading up the trail, the first point of interest is the trail kiosk, which has information about the history of the trail and includes a bulletin board where notices and information are posted. Near it is the libary box, where hikkers can borrow or lend books when they visit. Turn left at the kiosk to continue up the trail. Further on is the four corner road intersection (turn right) which is the last turn before proceeding to the lookout summit". Once on top, a majestic view of Lake Sunapee, Lake Sunapee and the surrounding area greets the visitor. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Clark Lookout is one of these places where you can see the beauty of nature and feel optimistic again.

If you go, definitely bring mosquito spray, a rain jacket, and an umbrella. The last thing you want is getting caught in the rain like we did... it was no fun. They did provide umbrellas, but ours was broken, so we ended up completely soaked. There's plenty of parking at the entrance, and portable potties are available before you start. The customer service has some opportunities, but overall I'm still glad I checked it out. I actually think I would've enjoyed it more in the winter than in the middle of summer. The mosquitoes were noooo joke, especially after getting drenched in the rain. Overall, it's a fun experience to do at least once if it's been on your list.
