Here for a conference and this was a suggested hotel. My first room had stains all over the desk and my second "upgraded room" for 25Euro more has stains on the desk AND rips in the carpet!

the hEAT restaurant is located right at the Kanal, with an amazing view to the Berlin cathedral. The Namibian steak just tasted perfectly, and the dessert was perfect. The rooms are spacious, with nice little balconies and very comfortable beds. The staff is very professional and helpful and the breakfast is just as amazing as the dinner.

I asked for ice, this is the bucket it came in. I would have expected this from a motel maybe, but a "5-star hotel"?

I actually really enjoyed my stay here (which is the reason I gave two stars, not one). What ruined the experience was that on the last night I waited 45 minutes for a plate and ice to be brought to my room (I had picked up food and wanted to eat in my room). I wasn't sure what was taking so long so I went downstairs to reception to ask about it after the first 30 minutes. They said it would be brought right up. Another 15 minutes later, I'm still waiting so I go back down again and this time ask one of the waitresses directly. She said that it would be another 10 minutes for the ice unfortunately, there were no buckets. That's totally fine, I understand it's busy and/or they don't have the buckets right now, there is nothing they can do about that. It would have been nice if they let me know that it would take close to an hour to fulfill my fairly simple request, but again, I understand. What prompted this review and rating was: 1) the attitude and the dirty looks this waitress was giving me as I asked for a plate and hot sauce so that I could go ahead and eat the food that had grown cold while I had been waiting for 45 minutes, and 2) the bucket they sent me the ice in. It was extremely dirty, see the attached picture. Was this really the only container that they could have brought ice in? Wow. As much as I enjoyed my stay here for the first 5 nights, experiencing this on the last night does not make me really want to come here again. If I did, I would not order anything from the restaurant/bar downstairs and I would certainly avoid dealing with room service.

    Amazing view from our room!

This has to be one of the best hotels i've stayed in whilst being in Europe. I booked last minute on expedia as a package deal with flights. We arrived after a very early flight from Manchester and to a warm welcome. Our check in was smooth - we were told about the breakfast (additional cost) and the spa facilities. We headed up to our room to drop our things off - bonus in the fact that we checked in around an hour earlier than my booking reference confirmed! We headed through the foyer with a spectacular view of a huge fish tank spanning at least 6\7 floors! We got to our room which was very spacious with two twin beds and french doors that opened onto the atrium and the spectacular fish tank! The bathroom was nicely presented and with enough towels and the plus was the two small wardrobes so we both had enough hangers each which is rare to come by! We stayed around 4 nights and throughout our stay we slept very well! The beds were very comfortable and the pillows nice and fluffy. The only criticism I would have about the room was the bathroom door which wouldn't close properly. We had a few drinks down in the hotel bar which was nice although very pricey however it was a lovely place to sit and chill out after a long day sightseeing. The staff were very great throughout our stay with suggestions on the best sightseeing tours and service. We we're well rested on our early check out to be surprised with a bar bill that wasn't ours! After a few minutes of worrying we we're going to be charged nearly 50 euros the manager came over and (luckily) believed us and wavered the tab. Hopefully they have a better procedure if people are going to order on their rooms in the future! Saying that everything else was of a 5* level - I have recommended this place to my friends and family some of whom are hoping to head to Berlin soon!

This is one of the high-end hotels in Berlin, but I find it OK but not impressive. I guess we hit it off in the wrong direction from the start with an unwelcoming front desk person. Maybe it was a bad day, but making you feel like something the cat dragged in is not a great beginning. It didn't encourage any further contacts with the front desk... We stayed in a business class room on the 6th floor with a great view of the Berlin dome. However, the wifi was to say the least slow and spotty, and it often lost contact while sending emails. The house keeping was OK, but had constantly minor issues that stained the experience - like forgetting to refill toilet paper, pens that didn't work placed out in the room (thank heavens I had my Hilton pen with me... ;)), and a Nespresso machine that was malfunctioning. The breakfast was great in the restaurant HEat; friendly and attentive service, great variety of food to chose from. A side note: the aquarium has become the trade mark of the hotel, but to access it one has to buy a ticket at the AquaDom...

Very enjoyable three night stay. It is very convenient to travel to the main sights in Berlin from…read morethis hotel because it is located next to the Friedrichstraße U- and S-bahn stations. We walked to most of the attractions since the weather was so beautiful. The room was very well appointed, modern, and clean. The shower featured water jets from the wall and was very nice. I was pleased to find an iron and ironing board in the closet. Be warned if you ask for a double bed: You'll be given two twin beds pushed together. I kept thinking to myself the London Underground warning of "Mind the gap!" because of a nearly catastrophic 3am separation of the beds, which roll away from each other quite easily. The spa is very small but there were only six loungers and guests were grabbing for them. The pool was quite cold. There are also saunas and an exercise studio, all of which looked well kept. You will be sorry you paid €16 each for the breakfast buffet. It was included in our room fee. The food was of average quality, but there wasn't a large selection to choose from and there were no chefs making omelettes or waffles. Also, the good tables by the windows were reserved for guests staying in the premium rooms. I'm never a fan of a hotel creating a class system amongst their guests. The bar was okay. Not much action there at night. My only complaint was that housekeeping never refilled the coffee in our room on all three nights but the front desk was responsive when we called to complain. I question how many stars this hotel has been awarded. It's advertised as five stars by various online booking sites, but they are not displaying their rating anywhere nor is it mentioned on the hotel's website. I feel it's lacking some critical ingredients to make a five star rating, like no bellhop, concierge, newspapers, or laundry service, our lunch and dinner offered in the restaurant. All in all, I still highly recommend this hotel for tourists who want a great hotel with easy access to the train network.

Terrible wifi connection, terrible check-in process, key didn't work consistently, restaurant didn't have basic menu items, 6 people at the front desk and only 2 were actually working, service staff consistently failed to service the room during a 9 hour periods when I was at work, and then wanted to service at 8am on check-out day. But most of all the attitude of the employees was off putting. Paying customers in a hotel shouldn't feel like their very presence is a burden. Do better for your future customers. I will not be one of them.

I figured, breakfast every morning, why not. I chose a river view room and was not disappointed with the view. The glass doors open to a wonderful view of the river, but don't expect a walk on patio. The room was nice and clean with enough drawers and compartments to hang and unpack all my clothes. I was glad I paid for lounge access. Breakfast hours were from 7A-11A; Candy from 11A-3P; Bite size bakery items from 3P-6P; and Appetizers from 6P-9P. Cold, bottled water, soda, and beer are always available from the refrigerator. Coffee and espresso drinks from a machine are always available as well. I really enjoyed the breakfast. Not only was there a buffet style spread, there was also a menu available and staff who would take your order. I ordered a coffee and fried eggs every morning. Perfectly fried and beautifully presented. Then I started ordering the waffles with cherry sauce. So delicious. Who knew I liked cooked cherries. Evenings, I made certain to get a glass of sparkling or red wine. Staff were awesome. They were always friendly and accommodating in the lounge. Cons: 1. There are no USB charging stations for phones. I had to purchase a power adaptor at the concierge for $10 Euros. 2. There were no wash towels in the restroom for the majority of my stay. 3. Bar of soap available 1 night. 4. When I called housekeeping, it kept ringing, so I hung up.

It is very well maintained, the staff…read moreare beyond friendly and helpful, and it is perfectly situated right in the heart of the city. This being said, there are a few downsides to this hotel, which I will get to in a moment. You should probably consider these before you actually decide to book a room here, as they may affect your stay. To begin with, I want to discuss the location. As mentioned, this hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Berlin. You are easy walking distance to Museum Island, to Berlin Tower, The Bauhaus, cathedrals, shopping, and dining. Plus, you are located right along the Spree River This brings me to their rooms. I really suggest that you book a river-view room. It really makes the whole lodging experience so much better. You open up your window, and there it is, the Spree River. All of the flavor of Berlin flowing right at your feet. As I am speaking about the rooms, there are a few things you need to consider. The rooms are all very well-designed and they're very well-maintained. They're very clean, and every time that you leave your room in the morning you can be sure that it will be made-up by the time you returned. One of the downsides to this hotel, however, and this fact really blows my mind, is that they do not have USB connections in the room. Thus, there is no place to charge your phone, your computer, or anything else unless you have an AC adapter. It's almost hard to believe that a hotel, in this day and age, would not install USB ports. But the Meliá does not. This brings me to one of the negative points about this establishment, providing me with a real bone to pick with this hotel. I live in the States, and expecting there to be USB ports in the room, I didn't bring a European electrical adapter. I have traveled the globe for over forty years and there has never been one time, at one hotel, that I asked for a power converter that it was not happily provided to me (for free). This hotel, however, does not provide those. The only way I could get a power converter, that fed into a USB cable, was to buy one from the concierge. I really think this NOT a good policy! I mean, come on! With the price of the rooms, and the level of the service this hotel supposedly provides, the guest should at least be provided with a power converter if they need one. The other thing I would like to discuss about this hotel is that you should really get a room that offers their Lounge Service. Their Lounge Service is really a good thing. Not excellent. But pretty good. Yes, with this service, your room will cost a little bit more, but you will provided with breakfast every morning and snacks throughout the day and well into the evening. The Lounge changes their offerings at various times during the day. In the morning they offer breakfast style food. And, it's pretty expansive. Not like a full-on breakfast buffet, offered by some hotels, but a nice integrated offerings of various breakfast items. During the day, they offer appetizers. Plus, all day long and into the night you can grab bottled waters, coolers, and beer. In the evening, they provide what they call a pre-dinner offering. With this, the guest are provided with very nice appetizers that are very well prepared. I've noticed that many guests come in there to eat their entire dinner from the Lounge. You can do that if you want. But, that's not really my style. During the afternoon and into the evening, they also offer a nice selection of wine and self-made cocktails. The other minor beef I have with the hotel, and it's kind of amusing, is the fact that for the first three nights of my week-long stay, they did not give us washcloths. But, on the fourth day, amazingly the washcloth did appear. Why didn't they leave washcloths every night, I do not know? One would think that would be standard protocol. Then, the next thing that happened is on the fifth night, the washcloths were gone. So, I don't know what's going on with that? Additionally, in terms of their housekeeping services, they have a note posted in each room that if you need a toothbrush or a razor they will provide them to you. We had run out of toothpaste, so we thought instead of going and buying some from one of the local shops, maybe we could get some from the hotel, since they were offering it. We called housekeeping services a total of seven times over two days and not one time did anybody answer. Thus, I'm not quite sure what they're offering, or who is manning their stations, but we were not provide with what they claim to offer. All this being said, I have good things to say about this hotel. Yes, there is a few downsides, but overall staying at the Meliá was a very pleasant experience.

I also got a "bid what you want" upgrade to a room on a high floor overlooking the street. The layout for the 2nd tier room is small but perfectly functional for a single traveler or couple, and I loved the thoughtful touches like a small chair in the bathroom, umbrella in the room with a holder, and hooks on the wall near the closet. The (nonalcoholic) drink minibar is free to take from and refilled daily which is another plus! And they had small chocolates that were refilled daily as well. I didn't partake in any breakfast or other food, but it did look good when I passed by. The garden area outside is nice to relax or work in. The hotel itself is on a quieter street but near many different modes of public transit - tram, bus, subway. The front desk warned me about needing coins for the tram / bus and was happy to exchange some bills into coins for me every morning as well. Not many taxis passing by but the front desk will call one for you very quickly if you ask. There are also bikes and scooters you can borrow. Ubers are all over the city and they arrive FAST! The hotel has a gigantic glowing red sign at the top of the hotel so that if you are walking, you can spot it quickly. If you arrive and realize you forgot your power adapter, the hotel will allow you to use one while you are there. They will charge you 20 euros for the use and will remove the charge once you return the adapter. We book our hotels through Marriott.com and use the default settings, we were told that we need to pay extra for the second guest, we said no problem. Elevators: there are 3 running elevators. Room: on checks-in we asked if there were any room upgrades. We got a junior suite (Room 572). A keycard is required to make the elevator move. Room 572 is far from the center of the hotel. Your walk down a long corridor so I was thrilled it is far from the elevators. It is a nice spacious room with sitting area opposite the bedroom. The room runs hot, so we turned off the furnaces and then opened the windows to cool the room down. Even with the furnace off, the room was warm. There is a nice no brand Nespresso machine with pods. There is a mini fridge where you can purchase drinks to consume in your room. Bathroom: very spacious and well lit bathroom that made easy to apply makeup with plenty of counter space. The mirror is the right height for me at 5'8" tall. There is a standing shower. Nice amenities: shampoo, conditioner, body lotion. Living room: nice size TV, desk area with one plug with USB-C and USB connector. There are plenty of European plugs for charging. Couch for watching TV, 2 ottoman style seating for putting on your shoes, and a table for eating snacks. Bedroom: King size bed with nightstands on each side. The night stands have European plugs with 2 USB connectors for charging devices. Smaller TV and tiny when considering distance to the bed for watching TV. Gym: there is a small gym onsite with a sauna. The gym is located in an odd area. We were told go to room 513 and take the elevator down to the gym. Sure enough go to room 513 and there is a tiny elevator. Take it down and you come to a lobby area. The sauna is off to the right but the door was locked the entire time we were here. Then you go around the corner to a series of doors. Open the one directly in front of you and it opens to an awkward open area. It looks like a pool should have been built there. But there are seating places to the right and left and the incense is quite strong, maybe a meditation area? There is a workout area to the left with treadmill and stuff and a water station. Sleep Quality: during the day we could hear noises from other rooms and ambulances screaming by on the street below. At night we could hear people stomping above us but when it came to sleeping time, the noises stopped. The sleep quality was very good but the hotel felt empty for most of the days we were here. During the summer months, it might be a different story. Breakfast: included with our room since we are Marriott Elite. We ate there everyday for our trip and our last day, the young girl was your reservation is only 1 person. We said no, we paid at check-in and 2 should be included for breakfast. After quite is discussion, she was quiet and happy after checking. The breakfast buffet is very nice and highly recommend. There is a nice omelet station.
