I had plans of hitting the waterfront and saw this vintage store was on my way from the coffee shop I'd posted up at, so I made a point to wait until it opened to check it out. I was not disappointed! While the shop itself is a little small, it's very well-stocked and curated. Being a designer, I really appreciated the color coding of the clothing racks. It felt easy to peruse versus the feeling of being overwhelmed you might encounter in other vintage stores that sorta pack the racks in. I was surprised at how reasonably all the clothing was priced. They also had a really good selection of accessories and smaller items that would make good gifts. Whenever I travel, I make it a point to visit a local vintage store and this definitely left a good impression on me. There were a few things I wanted to try on, but didn't for fear I'd fall in love and buy. I sadly overpacked for this trip and knew I didn't have much space left in the suitcase. However, now I know that this is a spot to return to when I'm back in the area. Hopefully, much sooner than later.

There's a lovely selection of real vintage pieces, faithful reproductions, and vintage-style clothes from modern brands packed into this small store, and the price range is very reasonable (especially since everything is very high quality). The clothes are great, but the owner is who really made my experience awesome. Sometimes I feel self-conscious when going vintage shopping, but she was so friendly and encouraging that I quickly let go of feeling shy and tried on a whole pile of clothes. I had so much fun trying on different pieces that my "quick visit" went on for quite a while, and turned into the highlight of my day. I went in thinking that I'd maybe find one dress, and I left with three! I can't recommend this store enough. The next time I'm up near Stowe, I'll be sure to visit again.

Where else will a CRT screen air VHS-quality reruns of I Dream Of Jeannie beside a love(and death)seat gothic tableau. Magically scary is right! I can't say there are a ton of practical goods to outfit your complete home, unless you're like Elvira or Pee-Wee Herman or an eccentric millionaire that wants to recreate nuclear family households through the decades. That practical disclosure disclosed, you're bound to find an accent piece or three that gives that IKEA aesthetic you've been glomming on to for years a little break in the ordinary. The wife snagged a cool little countertop cloche for $12. Bullseye. Finally, the name Barge Canal Market just looks like it should be rearranged to spell a code phrase. Maybe by an alt rocker or someone quirky. But not right now or anything. I don't know; I guess we can just "ANAGRAM LATER, BECK" Success!

There are toys, books, desks, chairs, lamps, appliances, etc. The most interesting part was probably the toys, many of which were new or with their original boxes, which is not something you see frequently in antique stores. Also check out the used book/record shop right behind this store (it's called "Speaking Volumes").

I pulled out my phone literally got SCREAMED at from across the store. I hadn't seen any of the signage that the lady said said was everywhere (looked for it tears in my eyes never saw anything)... and based on others yelps many people have taken photos too and I don't know maybe ask nicer and in a less publicly embarrassing way, people have social anxiety. I was there to get my Halloween costume and ready to spend some money. But instead I left and almost started crying. So do not enter unless you're ready to get screamed at!

My ADD got the best of me in that store :/ My partner (who is sensitive to perfumes) quickly laughed/scoffed " ha, uh...no" upon seeing/smelling me try it on at home 4 hours after purchase. Called back the next morning to see if I could get store credit, was told perhaps and to come back. I don't live in Burlington so it's about 30 min round trip. Longer story shorter, no dice even when I proposed that if the store credit wasn't used in the next 24 hours = they could keep the smelly jacket AND the credit. Idk what boss/manager wouldn't see the value in this, especially for customer retention- but they didn't. Would have unloaded a bunch of accessory items onto us at worst, and probably spent $ beyond the jacket credit, but oh well ‍ Anything you can find in there you can probably find online for much cheaper, and potentially new. Will not be supporting this small business again, and will use FB market for these type of items in the future. First time customer, last time customer. Simple as that.

We visited this place over the holidays and it is officially my new favorite clothing shop!…read more I love vintage clothes. I don't wear them that often because I don't always have the time to go searching for exactly what I want.... when I walked into this store with my mom and sister, it was like my eyes were opened to heaven and the vintage Gods were singing and calling my name! Every rack held clothes that spoke to my soul and begged me t I try them on.... how could I ever resist?! As a currently plus sized girl who has had a hard time finding clothes that I love in my size anywhere in Vermont, I was worried that all these beautiful treasures wouldn't look so beautiful the moment I decided to try them on... you can imagine my surprise when more than half the items I took in actually fit me!! The woman working the desk (tall / thin / blond) was so helpful to my mom and sister, and was even able to find something that fit me just by looking at me and guessing my size and what style she thought would look best....The dress she picked fit my body and personality like a glove!! I would definitely suggest this place to anyone who loves vintage or has an appreciation for vintage fashions. The prices were a little high, but well worth it in my opinion. I plan on visiting this store often!
