My husband played over the summer on Friday night after 5pm here at this municipal golf course that's located in Huntington Woods. The course wasn't spectacular or a very hard course, but it was really easy to get in a game the same day and with such short notice. It's not far from RO and wasn't too expensive either for a round of golf here with a twosome. My husband felt it was a decent course in a pinch. read more

Normally I love playing at rackham. The staff usually is very friendly, and it's a fun walking course. However yesterday I had the worst experience ever. One of the workers from chandler park was working at rackham and she thought her name was mrs rackham they were she went about things. I have spent thousands upon thousands at rackham the past 5 years and have never seen this later before yesterday. screw her!!! I wish i got her name but she was about 150lbs almost 6ft tall white and blonde hair. a spitting image of a karen. city of detroit needs to fire this lady before she unleashes her anger on another regular customer read more

While I used to agree with Brian M., this last weekend was my first time on the course in a year and it looked terrible!!....dry dead grass and a lot of bare patches near the tees. However, we played twilight on Friday and had the course mostly to ourselves which is a nice change since it used to get pretty mobbed in the summer. Not sure what's going on with this place but it used to be really well maintained and fairly pristine for a public course. Hopefully they bring it around for next year. read more

DONT Waste your $$ This place should be ashamed to take money from anyone!! I'm actually on hole 5 as I'm typing....that's how disappointed I am!! This is basically a huge dried up field Of grass with marked yardage and flags in a green. No creativity or thought put into this place:( Too bad bc an institution that they should try and maintain for future golfers!! On a positive note, staff is amazing ! Yesterday I experienced something I have never was faced with since I started golfing. I booked a tee time at 7:30 to be with a threesome. The started total me they did not want to play with someone else (a woman). They only booked for a threesome and most golf courses that are busy will make a foursome normally. I was told that they would "put me" somewhere else later so I would not have to play by myself. This is the last time I will be playing there. The two guys that I did play with were great and we had an enjoyable round. read more

Found this course to be in decent shape! Very glad I had a deal and didn't pay full price. Pace of play was very fast. Hoping the kid running register was in his 1st. Week working, otherwise, he should possibly be retrained. Didn't seem to have a clue about basically anything. read more

Below average course, at high prices. I go to much better courses usually for about what I paid here. There were no cart girls, most of the people had a walking member. Made the game slow. I would go here if you want to hit off the rough as though it was a fairway, actual fairways were full of puddles. But balls kept bouncing off the greens. My score was good, but when I went to Boulder Pointe after, I was sooo disappointed with my play, and remembered the difference between the rough and the fairway. read more

Golfed on a Thursday at 2:00. This is the type of course that when someone asks you say "Yeah it was pretty nice." I only played the front nine. The fairways were okay, there was a lot of debris on the edges and a ton in the rough leaving me to search for a long time finding balls less than 10ft off the fairway. Bring a colored ball you're going to need it. The greens again were just okay with some being better than others, some burnt out plugs and a couple holes with very poor pin placements. Now let's talk about the price... I paid $20 for nine holes, for this course that is a terrible value. This should be a $14 course for nine holes on a weekday. Overall "yeah it's pretty nice" probably won't come back for the back nine because though there are better places to play. read more

Course was in awful shape, every fairway had standing water which had been there for sometime, the fly's were awful, and as most folks know, the course is dry. The clubhouse is going through renovations so the limited food/drink options were sitting out in the hot sun. The actual course is a great, old-school design, it was too bad it is not kept up to standards deserving of a Donald Ross design. read more

The course used to be in excellent condition when American golf owned it, I played there a month or so ago and the course was in pretty poor condition. I was shocked, because it used to be a course that took pride in its condition. Obviously the new owners do not care. I will be back one day to reassess my posting. Hadn't played this course in a long time. Thought I would try again. Not worth it the price. Tees were shaggy in July, sand traps had large rocks and carts cost $32 per person. Outrageous. Big delays on some tees because of course layout. Easy par 4 leading into tricky par 5 tee, 3 groups waiting. Pro shop very limited. read more

Underrated and tough course. Gets a ton of play but is always in good shape. Holes 1-8 easy to score, but 9-18 kicks your butt. Two tough par threes on backside, and 18 is a great finishing hole. Enjoy the aroma of the zoo's inhabitants as you stroll along hole #15. I've played this course more than any other in my life, and I've NEVER, EVER hit either of the two par-3's on the back 9. I'm about a 23 handicap, so I'm not great, but I have my moments...just not on these holes. read more

Horrible greens and they shuttle people out like cattle. Easy 5 1/2-6 hour round. Unacceptable.

Course is poorly maintained. The grass is dry and there are lots of divots. The staff is also rather rude, unhelpful, and sexist. Many of the older male staff refuse to speak to or make eye contact with female players and will only address the male players in a party. The staff also make you feel rushed and are constantly trying to get you to hurry up (which is understandable if you are playing slowly, as its courteous to let others players play through; however in this instance our party was playing rather quickly and was still instructed to move at a faster pace). Overall I'd rate this course at a half star or less if I could. read more

This course currently has 2 stars. However, I believe these rating are based on previous years conditions. The pro shop and the ranger, Doug, were very helpful and kind today. The course itself, I would give 4 stars...especially for the price. It is in great shape. The greens are excellent. The golfers out here do not fix their ball marks though. The greater Detroit tournament was run extremely well thanks to Jim and the course was in GREAT shape with new improvements.

I have golfed here at least 20 times over the past two years. (2015 & 2016). The course has also been in very good shape. Good greens, good fairways and good tee boxes. The staff has also been very friendly. It is an ok price for the weekend rounds I play ($40-$50). Although one time I played at a peek time (Saturday at 10am) for $25 dollars. If you download the vargo app they sometimes have coupons for Rackham, although they are usually during the week when I am at work. By far what makes the 45ish dollars worth it is the BYOB. Yes, BYOB. If you go anywhere else you pay $20+ dollars for a 6 pack of cheap beer (Budlight).. You can spend 20 dollars and get beer for mutiple people and not have to pay a massive mark up. Which, in my mind, makes the 40 some dollar green fee worth it. As for the course, it is very open and a little tight. I wish there were some more trees to catch my slices. :p There are two practice greens in good shape but no driving range. There is a concession stand inside that sells the norm stuff, hot dogs gateraide etc etc. (Also pizza!) My only complaint: (Rackham please see this!) Rounds take way to long. They pack the course on weekends. Like pack it FULL. It has taken 5-6 hours to play 18 holes almost every weekend. (when there is good weather) I would recommend trying this course. Just be patient if you are teeing off on Saturday or Sunday. read more

Called on Friday to book a tee time for Sunday. No issues, they fit us in. Showed up for our slot on Sunday and they have no record of our reservation. There were no apologies and no attempts to book us for a later time. Nothing but try another weekend. We definitely won't be back to give this place another try. read more

I've played here before and enjoyed it. Today was a little ridiculous. $25 for 9 holes and a cart. BUT I had to wait for a cart from groups coming off. AND I didn't get to tee off until 20+ minutes after my tee time. Not to mention the wood piles on the course behind the greens... read more

This is a very good course that has a tendedce to trick your mind and throw off your distances. I practice at this course three times a week so I know it well. I actually prefer the back for those two par threes . Always like the longer par threes. read more

3 star course with 1 star organization and amenities. Rackham is the golf equivalent or Spirit Airlines. Every time I go I say "I'm done! No more!" yet the convenient location near downtown Royal Oak is enough to sucker myself and others over and over again. The main issue is the pace of play. I have never had a smooth round here EVER. They consistently pack as many people into a day as they can with inadequate tee time booking. This cash cow is clearly paying all of the Vargo group's unpaid water bills and yet the bathroom has been out of order for about a month now. Ok, I guess that part makes sense, but still. Honestly...solid greens and fairways, decent rough and plenty of time to read emails, check your Facebook and Instagram accounts, pop off a couple Snapchats, pound beers and whisper about how much you hate the golfers in front of you. If there are other $20-$30 options near by, just go there instead. If not... Spirit. Airlines. read more
