Simply the BEST local tennis shop EVER! Amazing service from start to finish...top notch efficient stringing, nice variety of tennis merch including apparel/shoes! Well worth driving across town as La Jolla can be tricky. Been a loyal customer past few years and they can't be beat! read more

They're level of patience is an understatement. $20 to demo 4 rackets over 5 days. I was looking to buy a second racket. My first one was given to me. I went in blind and left more knowledgeable than before. They are methodical about suggesting which rackets to demo and adjust the next set based on your feedback. After 5 weeks of demoing a variety of rackets I got a good idea of ideal weight, different strings and types of racket and was able to narrow it down. I live in rancho penasquitos so driving back and forth to La Jolla was painful, but it was worth it read more

This is the best one-stop shop for your tennis needs! The staff members here are extremely welcoming, kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. They offer a great demo program and will follow you through the process of testing and choosing the best equipment for your level and style of play. read more

Really solid local tennis shop worth checking out if you're in the area. The staff clearly love the game and know their stuff when it comes to rackets and string setups. One thing I really appreciated was their 2-week demo program--$20 deposit lets you try out as many rackets as you want (just return them within 5 days between swaps). Thank you Jason and John for racket suggestions! I ended up putting that deposit toward buying two rackets with strings, and was pleasantly surprised that the total came out cheaper than buying online. You can even text them with questions or updates, which is super convenient--especially if you're not a fan of phone calls. Driving to La Jolla isn't always fun, but I've consistently found easy parking nearby, which makes the trip a lot less stressful. read more

If you're in the market for just about anything tennis (and I hate to say it, but pickleball/Paddle as well...) this place is the one stop shop. I'm on my second racket purchase with this shop and I frequently drive out of my way to get my rackets strung here because the advice and service is top notch. They have a fantastic racket demo program where you put down a $20 deposit to take out a few rackets for 5 days at a time, once the days are up you can swap them out to try new rackets again and again until you find the right fit. That $20 then goes towards a racket purchase. Jason and Mark are great at giving advice and recommendations on strings and racket based on your type of play - truly the best of the best and can't recommend enough!! read more

FOR THE LOVE OF TENNIS In search for my second racquet... because I'm at that level now where multiple racquets are necessary. Took over a month to find the right tennis shop, the right racquet, etc. So much detail goes into a tennis racquet and I'm all about the details. Luckily I stumbled upon this gem of a shop, signed up for their racquet program, and maybe after testing out 5 racquets within two weeks I've found the one! First and foremost, they follow covid reopening guidelines and take safety precautions seriously. The guys here are super knowledgeable. I brought in my racquet which is a 8.8 that I bought at my tennis club's shop and wanted to get a slightly heavier racquet but very similar in head size and etc. the guys set me up with possible racquets I'd like. They have a great racquet program, better than other racquet programs at other tennis shops. Only stickler is that if you don't live in La Jolla the drive back and forth to get racquets to test every few days can be kind of... inconvenient but besides that, awesome. I'm a super fan of Head so I stuck with that brand but explore different lines. I even sampled a Babolat (pretty nice too). After trying different lines like Radical, Gravity, Pure Drive, etc etc etc. I started to narrow down. And with my style of play on the courts... I found what's best for me was the Head Instinct Lite 2021. It was only the frame. I've decided to try the Head Velocity Multifilament string - so far so good. Purchase the strings and they do the labor of putting the strings on! After a wonderful $179 spent, I have been aggressive putting my baby to use and definitely has changed my game on the courts. I've mentioned this place to my buddies at the club and some have gone over and bought themselves new racquets too. Great place. It's right next to La Jolla Tennis Club. Don't come on Sundays... they are closed - lesson learned. Until the next time... read more

RSW has friendly, patient staff who are a great help with learning more about the technical/equipment aspect of tennis. Especially grateful for John and Jason's expertise. I'm a novice with only ~8 months of experience. Decided I might want to upgrade from my beat up Walmart racket. Their demo program was an amazing value for me to test out rackets from different brands with different strings. I learned quite a bit over the course of a month, from returning and exchanging rackets and asking about their thoughts on what a player like myself might find good to use. Would much recommend this over an online alternative -- you just can't beat getting instant feedback/advice and not having to wait for new rackets to be shipped to you. They've got a great thing going on, makes sense why their customers keep coming back. Looking forward to returning for my first restringing. read more

Relatively new to the area and needed 4 rackets strung. When I googled tennis shop, it would send me to Ray's (great store but ~25 minutes from me) or like Dick's Sporting Goods. Only when I googled tennis racket stringing did the RSW pop up (~7 minutes from me). Every other place charges obscene prices for racket stringing which I refused to bite on because I could knock out all 4 of them in less than 90 minutes. Therefore, $30 a racket just for labor is ridiculous. You literally do not need to go anywhere else for anything tennis-related. Visit this shop once and you will see what I mean. First, it is a small business with super friendly staff. I told them I had been struggling to find people to play with and they hooked it up immediately. They have all the latest equipment and even older, hard-to-find models for great prices. All their prices are equal and better to anything you can find online or elsewhere. I dropped off 2 rackets and was told I could pick them up the next day. I got a text the next day saying my rackets were ready and went to get them. I also got a case of the Dunlop ATP balls for cheaper (overall w/ tax and shipping) than you can on TW. And we know the supply chain issues with balls so this was great. I got the rackets strung at 52/50 (this might not make sense to a lot of people) and they were spot on. These were two really quality string jobs. Best tennis shop around and it makes me so happy to see that places like these still exist. read more

Great specialty tennis shop. Heres why you should go here: 1) SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES!!!!! 2) These guys actually know tennis and can give you real help and advice. The big box stores know nothing about tennis and cant help you, in fact their advice would likely be wrong. 3) Good restringing and regripping service, fast and top tier materials. read more

I've been going here for easily over a decade and it's the type of consistency from a sports store you can only dream of. They haven't expanded to a bigger store, they haven't changed much of anything in the last 45 years but that's what makes this place special. They have all your needs, rackets, strings, shoes, grips etc and they have some real world knowledge behind it to. They're all tennis players, they're fans of the pros just like any of us. We even joked about Tsitsipas breaking the handle of his Wilson racket recently and the Wimbledon final, they're up to date on any and all tennis related content. If you pay in cash, I believe there's a 3% discount. There's also free labor on stringing a racket if you buy the racket from them. Happy to give business to a local legend instead of a generic tennis web store! read more

Racket Stringing Workshop - Purchased my Head Extreme MP, top quality shop. - Sporting Goods Near Me - La Jolla, California

Great place to get tennis rackets restrung. Came in on Tuesday to get my racket restrung and it was ready by Wednesday.

A great tennis store! Definitely recommend to every tennis player who needs tennis gears. Racquet Demo Program is great for a new racquet! (https://lajollatennis.com/services-2/#Demo-Program) Basically you can try 3 racquets at a time and keep rotating them in a month. You just need to pay $20, which is deducted from the price of the racket if you buy one later. People there are nice, knowledgeable and patient. While demoing the racquets, they can conclude what's your preference on head size, weight, balance, stiffness, etc. even you are not an expert but just tell them which you like among the demos. After narrowing down the search, you can find the best fit. Similar experience for shoes and bags picking. Always provide numerous options for you to try on. This is what you cannot get for the online shopping. They also do the stringing super fast and usually you can pick it up the same day. While waiting you can go for a walk to La Jolla Cove nearby :) read more

Great service. Little mom and pop shop. Great customer service and they are very knowledgeable about tennis.

Fast stringing. VERY knowledgeable staff. Price is fair although labor can be considered a bit higher, the quality of their technique makes it worth it. Ask them to string your racket, go get some tacos nearby, and come back and your racket will be ready to go! read more

This is simply the spot in San Diego for everything tennis. Mark and Jason are super friendly and experienced guys. They've stocked everything possible in the shop and carry anything you could desire. From fringe high-end tennis balls like the Babolat VS ball to early release rackets like the Head Gravity and the new release of the Babolat Pure Strike these guys have it all. This is the only place I go for equipment, accessories, and string because they've always treated me well and the prices are right. I also am glad to support an old local business. read more

This is one of the secret businesses you occasionally stumble upon. It is in a shack on Draper Avenue across from the La Jolla Library. RSW sells all things tennis, shoes, socks, caddies, etc. The least expensive tennis rackets are out front on the used rack with $80.00 being the cheapest I've seen. The new ones run up into the nose bleed section. I paid a $20.00 rental fee that allowed me to try out various rackets until I settled on one. As cool as the $20.00 fee is the the best part of the experience are the guys who run the place. They have been there for years and are very patient and helpful. While pricey it is definitely worth searching out. read more

What an amazing shop, with knowledgeable staff, and as much inventory as you can imagine. The level of knowledge and the manner of finding the perfect shoe for me was both in-depth and efficient. Tennis Pro? Shop here. Beginner, new to a tennis? Shop here. The shop owner and tennis pro know their stuff and are genuinely happy to help, you can tell they care about the game. They have everything you need from the newest tennis rackets to a can of balls before hitting the courts. What is amazing is that the prices are not marked up, they are basically the same as Amazon and I can feel good about supporting a local business that has been around for 45 years. I was curious about prices since I am on a budget, the owner showed me competing prices and even gave me the option to buy a used racket if I wanted to. You can check out a Demo tennis racket to test out before you buy. They string rackets for a reasonable price and have a fast turn around time. I am new to tennis. Mark and Jason helped me pick out some comfortable (and cool looking) shoes, a demo racket to start with and told me all about balance and head size, string weights and textures, as well as some YouTube videos to get me started. I wish there were more places like this around. Thanks guys! I will definitely be back. read more

Finally a tennis shop I feel welcomed in with owners who are knowledgeable, passionate about their job, take time to answer questions and give you all the options you need for gear and rackets without being pushy!!! Their demo program is THE BEST. For $20 you get 2 months to try 4 rackets, changing them out every 7 days and that $20 goes towards the racket you choose! Ohhhh yeah and returning the rackets are so easy --- they actually have a drop spot located on the side of the shop !! What else? They are super fast at stringing rackets! I dropped my vintage graphite prince off today and It'll be ready for me by tomorrow (note I didn't even ask for expedite service or anything!) So happy I found a great pro-shop in the SD area :-)) No more tennis warehouse shipping or rip off tennis shops.. YAAS! Thanks Marc and Jason! You guys are life savers! read more

Fantastic customer service and great selection of rackets, shoes and other apparel/equipment. What I loved about them was that they give you their honest opinion, and will steer you to lower-priced options on sneakers and rackets if that's what they think is best for what you are trying to achieve. For example, I'm a Nike man through and through, but because my right ankle has had a history of being sprained during basketball games, I needed shoes that would provide more stability and peace of mind. So while I liked the design of the available Nikes, Jason suggested I try on some K-Swiss (a lower priced option as well) because this model gives you more foot and ankle stability -- which after trying on was clearly the case. He also thoroughly explained my different racket options and why I would want to go with one over another. Super stoked to pick up my rackets and bag today! read more
