I was very excited to tour this distillery, my husband went here during his bachelor trip almost two years ago now and always said it was fun. We showed up around 930am for our 10am tour - they say to get there at 9:45 AM, but we were a little bit early - and they greet you with a welcome cocktail, which was pretty nice, you can choose between an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan. The tour was very informative and you do the tastings throughout, and then we headed up to their rooftop bar to drink a bit more - it was a rainy day but still nice. Overall I liked this distillery and would come back - there is free lot parking too, although only about 20 spots. read more

We enjoy visiting Kentucky and touring the bourbon distilleries. The tours aren't necessarily unique from one to the next, with regard to the process of bourbon distilling,, however, there are some stand outs we have found over the years. Rabbit Hole is a newer distillery located in downtown Louisville. As with almost all others, their shop is where the check in area is and it's all immaculately clean. The team that works here are knowledgeable and friendly. I have found most of the distilleries have happy employees- that's appreciated. One part of the tour that stood out for us was a special tasting of one of their founder's blends (Adoura) at the end of the tour. When the price tag for that particular one is $900 a bottle, it's a real treat to try it. read more

I have been here before as a while ago. I came back again with my family. It was great tour on that day. Since they weren't running anything since it is their annual maintenance cleaning which is fine with us. We have done so many bourbon tours. The guide tour was great. He took his time to explain. The bourbon tasting was great. We all enjoy it. Then afterward, we decided to stay at the Overlook Bar to enjoy the holiday cocktails. We had great time. read more

We didn't have any food but the drinks were nice and strong. The view was beautiful. The bartender was nice and amazing to watch as she prepared the drinks. There were servers flowing also if you didn't care to sit at the bar. The place is spacious for a rooftop (closed in) bar. This place is gorgeous. Lovely bar and gift shop. My friend and I spent over $400 here. What prevents me from the fifth star is that David, our cashier, was not very helpful outside of ringing up our purchases. We asked if the shop had or sold any bubble wrap or other protective packaging to transport our bourbon home. He said no. Then we asked is there a UPS or other store we could find such packaging. He looked at us like we were totally annoying him. Zero helpfulness on that account. Maybe store management could consider offering g such packaging for sale? Maybe a little customer service training as well? Just a friendly suggestion. read more

My husband and I went recently for a distillery tour and also to check out the rooftop views from the Overlook Bar. We had such a great experience! We started with the tour first. We took the Find Your Perfect Whiskey Tour. We got to see the distillery and the whole process from grain to bottle. We stopped periodically to do tastings of their bourbons, and we also got to try their gin. After the tour, we headed up to the Overlook Bar. It is such a cool space with mainly indoor seating, but there is an overlook balcony with a few seats out there as well. You get a great view of the NULU area all the way to the river. The drinks that we tried all were delicious and were definitely not watered down! We tried the Over The Moon, a neat pour of the Mizunara Founder's Collection, a Black Manhattan, a neat pour of the Cavehill Kentucky Straight, and a Gimlet with gin. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and also offered to take photos for us which was such a nice bonus! I definitely recommend visiting the distillery and the Overlook Bar! read more

Another very nice tasting room and distillery. We went upstairs and sat at the tasting bar and tried a couple of whiskey's - a rye and a bourbon. Service was fine there were a few other couples at the bar and seated at tables around the tasting room. The room was very nice with 180 degree views of the town and wide windows. Worth a stop. For our first bourbon distillery tour of the day, we went to Rabbit Hole Distillery, named after the Alice in Wonderland story. The distillery, founded in 2012 and opened in 2018, had a very modern look. Atop of the distillery was a corrugated metal sign, and if you looked at it from the right, you saw a rabbit, and if you looked at it from the left, you saw the words "Rabbit Hole". Pretty cool! We arrived early four our tour, so we spent the time looking around in the gift shop, where I found a hat for my husband, which he really likes. The tour, at $25US, wasn't cheap, but we had a good time viewing the distillery and the tour included five samples: 1.Cavehill: a four grain bourbon with hints of fruit, named after Cave Hill Cemetery, Muhammad Ali's final resting place. 2. Heigold: a high rye (25%) bourbon with caramel notes. It is named after Christian Heigold, a German stonecutter who settled in Louisville prior to 1850. 3. Boxergrail: a rye whiskey made of 95% rye. Named after Muhammad Ali and boxing culture. 4. Bespoke gin: a gin aged in the Boxergrail barrels. I wasn't expecting a bourbon distillery to produce gin, but the gin was quite tasty and I purchased a bottle because it was something different. 5. Dareringer: a bourbon finished in sherry casks, with notes of cherry, raisins, and currents. I didn't quite understand where the name came from, but it was a tribute to the Rabbit Hole founder's wife and her support. We enjoyed the tour and the tasting, and there was also a bar and lounge, but unfortunately we didn't have time to stay for a cocktail. I've toured a few different bourbon trail distilleries now, and this one was the most unique. Most of the tours are set up where you have a prop like version of the actual production distillery but this place was actively being used. Throughout the tour we saw actual workers doing things like filling and draining the beer pool, to moving grain around in the work bay area. This is a much newer more modern distillery and it has become my favorite of the tours I've taken in KY. read more

Rabbit Hole is a must-do if you're traveling to Louisville. It's sleek, shiny, it has great branding, and as a trained chemist the live fermentation vats and distillation were a highlight of my 4 days to this iconic American city. A local friend and I ordered a Black Manhattan and a Signature Old Fashioned at the then-two-day-old rooftop bar, which has gorgeous full-height windows overlooking the downtown. We debated the relative merits of the Cavehill, Heigold, Boxergrail, and Dareringer, as the enthusiastic, knowledgeable bartender educated us on the history and gossip behind each of their four signature blends. I appreciated that the bartender sampled aliquots of each cocktail before serving us. The Black Manhattan was sugary, sweet, crisp, tart, and sweet - a real winner. The signature Old Fashioned was a bit smooth for my taste, but my usually bourbon-averse friend finished it before I could do the same to the old fashioned. The barrel select varieties were on hand and absurdly expensive, but the prices for the standard blends were in alignment with those at my local Wegmans. As such, Rabbit Hole receives my full recommendation. This is not a tourist trap. read more

Rabbit Hole's distillery tour is well worth the money. We were greeted with an old-fashioned made from their flagship Cavehill whiskey. The clean, modern building was designed with visitors in mind, right down to anti-slip droplets that provide traction when walking on a glass section of flooring that reveals the barley mill conveyor system. Our tour guide, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, wasn't stumped by a single one of our questions. The burbling fermentation vats were great fun, and our guide encouraged us to reach down and dunk our finger into the mixture (the distillation process sanitizes everything). Tasting bar at the top has a patio with great views of the cityscape. Reserve well in advance, especially on weekends! read more

Rabbit Hole is a new arrival on the Kentucky Bourbon Scene, with its flagship location in hip NuLu opening in 2018 or so. Its a gorgeous building, all steel glass and concrete, with a shaded plaza on the ground level and a rooftop bar and deck overlooking NuLu and Downtown Louisville. Not a bad place to spend a couple hours on a hot afternoon. The tour is fun and you get a complementary Old Fashioned to lubricate those brain cells. It ends in a private tasting room on the top floor, after which you can continue to sample the company wares from the bar, which has plenty of comfortable seats inside as well as a roof top deck. Their Black Manhattan is particularly good. As for their bourbon and rye? Its pretty good, but nothing really stands out so as to justify the $45 and up MSRP price tags. Like most new distilleries, you are paying their mortgage and debt financing in addition to their bourbon. read more

Rabbit Hole was the first stop on our second day on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. It was a rainy morning, but we walked to the distillery from our hotel while there was a break in the storm. From the outside the space is kind of unassuming. We rounded the corner to a beautiful courtyard entry with tall windows and modern sensibilities. We couldn't book a tour in advance, but we were hoping to visit their tasting room. We checked in and they were able to accommodate us right away (it had just opened a few minutes before). Once upstairs, we were greeted by a bright, open room with floor to ceiling windows and a panoramic view of downtown Louisville. And then the skies opened, and the view was completely blocked by sheets of rain womp womp. The space is beautiful and few walls they do have are staged like an art gallery. We opted for the tasting flight. It included the full line of whiskies, and we added their barrel aged gin. The whiskey was solid as usual; my favorite is Dareringer. But the gin truly stole the show! A trip to Louisville wouldn't be complete without a stop here. read more

Skip this stop on the Bourbon Trail. This distillery seems like pure marketing and a big disappointment after the experience we had at Old Forrester and Castle & Key. This felt like a bad theme park tour. The distillery was opened in 2018. The owner is so enamored with his own wisdom that he immortalizes his own quotes on every wall with his name and title. Major yikes. The owner's wife is credited with coming up with the name of the distillery, but neither her name, nor the quote, are anywhere to be found. Isn't she an owner too? He mortgaged her house to start it. I think she has a stake in it. We had reserved a private tasting for our group of 8, which was rushed because they were setting up for a private event in the same room. Our group did not enjoy the tour, the guide, or the tasting of the product. read more

Had a wonderful time here. The hubs and I rarely partake in alcoholic beverages, but decided to go up to the bar and treat ourselves. How could we not in bourbon country?!? I had the golden mule, and he had the signature old fashioned. They were definitely worth the splurge! The golden mule was one of the best drinks I've ever had. The bartender was friendly and helpful. There's an amazing view from the bar, too. We were able to walk around and check out the distillery, and made sure to stop by the gift shop before we left. Though we did not take a tour, we were able to visit their bar where we ordered a flight for our own tasting experience. The bar is beautiful. Floor to ceiling glass windows afford an excellent view of downtown Louisville. Comfortable lounge chairs and sofas are arranged in groupings suitable for parties of two or more. Their tasting flight is fairly priced and comes with tasting notes and some water to add drop by drop if you want reduce the proof to open up the flavors. The quality of each whiskey was excellent and I'll be adding their products to my home bar -- in particular the Boxergrail Sour Mash Rye which is perfect for sipping, or for some of my favorite rye based cocktails like a Sazerak, a Boulevardier, or an Ali Smash. If I get back to Louisville a return visit and a tour of the distillery will be on my itinerary. read more

Amazing experience and drinks even though the actual distilling was down for annual maintenance. Mason made the tour amazing- he started the tour with a great little cocktail (Rabbit Remedy was my choice) he was eager and ready to answer all the questions we had. Did you know Alice in Wonderland was written in 1860s? Mason did; lol!! The tour was very thoughtfully designed and let you choose your way through the experience. While many of the distilleries talk about their extensive histories, they are up front about how they are new and how they are scaling their production up as they can. The bourbon is delicious and we were able to taste 5 with stories about the origin of each. This is a great addition to a group of distilleries that are both modern and historic. read more

I am by no means a bourbon drinker and there was really only one option to get that didn't include bourbon but it was good! I wish the menu was bigger with more cocktail options in general. Unfortunately there was no tour available, but the staff said the bar was open. We were able to take the elevator upstairs and enjoy views of the process along the way. The flight was fantastic. The Cavehill giving that famous Kentucky hug to start you off. I'm partial to the Boxergrail, rye, and Dareringer, it's a smooth bourbon finished in the sherry cask. They're running a tight, efficient, beautiful operation here. If you're a fan of bourbon and have some time, this place is a must-go. If you're a friend of someone who's a fan of bourbon, it may not be a great fit. Honestly, though, if my biggest complain about a bourbon distillery is that they don't have non-bourbon, I'd say they're doing a good job. Their rooftop bar is gorgeous, but do be aware that it's very windy - even on warm days - so plan ahead with coats if you want to stand outside up there. PROS: -This place was MADE with tours in mind. With a lot of alcohol facilities, it's clear the focus was on making a profitable beverage they can sell and still stay afloat. The idea of adding tours comes in later, and they attempt to retrofit the space to work for it. That's clearly not the case with Rabbit Hole. A lot of the touches (giant hallways through the brewing areas, glass doors into creation facilities, a gigantic waiting area and store) were clearly built into the building itself. Even the floor has an area with glass flooring that allows you to see the pipes transporting the booze underneath your feet. -Everything here is very, very efficient. They're clearly used to gigantic tourist crowds, and they have things down to a system. Walkie talkies are used to plan out groups that are arriving to the rooftop bar, about to start the tour, or on the wait list. Like the hostess will walkie talkie the exact number of parties and people that are walking upstairs to the rooftop bar so the bar staff can plan tables. It's impressive. -There was a decent wait (about 45 minutes) when we arrived, but Rabbit Hole knows that booze makes everything better, and there's a small tasting bar downstairs. They also have TVs playing advertisements and a gigantic gift store to entertain yourselves. A set of bathrooms are right here in the entryway too. It can get a bit crowded (not much seating and lots of people waiting and no matter where you wait, you feel like you're in the way), but it has enough shiny things to entertain you. -Very flavorful bourbons. I was told each one really had their own unique character, and it made a flight a very enjoyable, social experience for those who liked bourbon. Their "alcohol facts" cards that went with the booze was really helpful in guiding the tasting - especially as the bartender was really busy keeping up with the room. -This place is new, modern, and beautiful. The ambiance of the entire place is gorgeous, and it really sells the place. They steered away from "classic Southern" like a lot of distilleries do, and they went straight to "fancy upscale business bar" vibe. CONS: -It's really, really odd that their rooftop bar only sells straight pours of their bourbon and gin. They don't have cocktails or mixed drinks. No beers or wines. While it obviously is a bourbon distillery, this can make things difficult if you're trying to go out with friends who have no interest in straight bourbon but wanted to spend time with you or learn how bourbon is made. You can skip the drinking/tasting portion of the experience, of course, but having time to sip their product in their beautiful rooftop bar is definitely part of the experience. -Because everything is so efficient and crowded, it can feel rushed - especially up at the bar. When the staff is using walkie talkies to announce and prep for specific parties on their way up and you see all of the tables are full, it can make you feel bad for not drinking a ton of the bourbon - especially if people in your party aren't straight bourbon drinkers. It took away from some of the calm, relaxed, "enjoy our bourbon" atmosphere. read more

I visited Rabbit Hole just for a tasting and loved it. I wish I had done the tour and had time for more tastes. From what I saw, the distillery is beautiful and modern. They've got a great mural on the building. The outdoor ground space is so pretty. Inside, they've got a well-stocked gift shop. I let staff know I was just here to go up to Over Look, their top floor tasting room. Over Look is gorgeous with amazing Louisville views and a great roof deck. The staff is so friendly. I loved my taster and loved the fact I was able to just relax and enjoy it in the tasting room. I highly recommend Rabbit Hole and would go back if in Louisville. read more
