It was a great shock to learn of the death of my oncologist, R. Michael Williams, especially by what looks to be medical malpractice. I arrived for my appointment and was taken to an exam room instead of my regular treatment room.
I could tell immediately by the looks on Josslyn and Veronica's faces that something was very wrong. And I knew. We all cried. I was so impressed that they told each patient privately and had been doing so since they got the news on Monday (July 18, 2024). What a loss to his family, friends, and patients. Not only was he at the top of his field, but he was one of the kindest men I have ever known. When, a year after my chemotherapy was completed, I moved to Modesto, my patient advocate at UNMC in Omaha not only recommended Dr. Williams, she called and set up my first appointment. That was in December, 2016. My daughter went with me to that first visit to take notes. Dr. Williams described in detail the protocol he recommended and why. He was professional and, at the same time, welcoming and caring. He won us over on the spot. Then I got to know the staff! Every one of them was totally patient oriented, caring, happy to see us, welcoming, greeted each patient by name, and made us feel like part of the "family".
Either Dr. Williams had a knack for picking staff to meet his high criteria, or he was a genius at training them to his standards. His was, and will be for the next 3 months, the best run medical office in Modesto. I have seen him go out of his way so many times to help his staff and patients when they were in a bind. I didn't mean for this review to be this long. I guess that it's my way of grieving the loss of a lovely soul. May he rest in peace. read more
