I went in for a root canal upon referral from my dentist. Dr Paul Steele performed the root canal at Mead DDS, Endodontists. Upon completion I asked for antibiotics knowing that there was most likely severe infection as I had pain for 5 days before I could get in. He refused to prescribe antibiotics. I was told I only needed Tylenol. Even after I called to complain about swelling and pain, I was told to just take more Tylenol. Ended up in the emergency room and was diagnosed with an infection called Ludwig's angina. Was intubated, went into a coma for 3 weeks and spent 8 weeks in ICU. Lost 53 pounds from having to eat thru a feeding tube for six months. Vocal chords are damaged and as a result my voice has not recovered after a year now. Have been told that a simple cycle of penicillin or amoycillin would have prevented a million dollar hospital stay. Worst experience ever. Would never set foot back in this office. read more

Any time you have to go to a dental specialist, it's going to be an overwhelming experience. I had a very old root canal develop an infection at the very internal tip. So the procedure was going to be more complex. However, Dr Mead and his staff did a great job keeping it to a minimum. Every step was explained, he was gentle with great bedside manner. There was little to no pain, swelling the next day as expected and explained by the doctor to expect. Overall not a scary experience, so don't set yourself up for failure with this. read more

I had tetrocycline as a child so my teeth suffered as a result and the color of my teeth darkened and the enamel became very thin. I have had A LOT of dental work over my lifetime including a lot of root canals. Dr. Mead did a root canal this past fall and everything turned out fine. This past weekend I had an old root canal flare up as it developed an infection at the bottom tip. I gradually had increasing pain over the weekend and was worried I was taking too many ibuprofen but I had to as the pain was incredible. I called Dr. Mead's emergency number for some type of help and he basically said that the emergency number was not used for that and to "Keep my chin up". Really? I was in SO much pain and he offered NOTHING. Not even try this instead of that for the pain and I'll try to get you in asap. NOTHING So I called to make an appointment Monday and was told I have to go through my regular dentist first. Again, really? I knew it had to be something to do with a new tooth needing a new root canal and didn't know an old root canal could need to be redone, so I go to see my regular dentist and get pain meds which didn't help a whole lot. (Yet another day delayed getting relief) Even calling that afternoon to get an appointment with Dr. Mead the receptionist said she'd have to get back to me as she was checking on insurance so I was being nice and said tomorrow morning is fine. That night (night 5 of increasing excruciating pain--I was even considering going to the ER for SOME type of relief) I remembered I had gone to Northern Colorado Endodontists in Fort Collins, several years ago. I called and left a message and they called back at 8 am sharp when they opened and got an appointment THAT DAY. (I still have not received a call from Dr. Mead's office). By the time I got to my appointment, the insurance and everything was aligned and I was in and out and root canal treated. Not a bunch of do this before we can do that, etc. I will NEVER be back to Dr. Mead's practice and ONLY go to Northern Colorado Endodontists. They were EXTREMELY efficient, professional and NO B.S.!!! Don't bother calling Dr. Mead's emergency number, it was USELESS!!! read more

Beware! Dr. Mead performed a root canal on me yesterday and what a bad experience! It was 45 minutes after my appointment time before I was seen by Dr. Mead. He was so arrogant and scripted, that I was at a loss of words. He kindly explained what he was doing throughout and why, which was reassuring, but his approach was aggressive and painful. He chastised me for not having a large enough mouth for him to properly do the procedure! In spite of my complaining, he titled the chair so low that when the procedure was complete, I could hardly stand. It took me nearly 30 minutes before I could regain composure to drive away! Throughout the procedure, I nearly vomited several times, during which he belittled me and told me that there is no such thing as a gag reflex and that I should just think of something else. When I complained, his staff just looked down, somehow knowingly. I've had a root canal before (yes, I know!), but it was nothing like this. All I could do was come home and sleep! read more

Took my child to this dentist. They sedated my daughter. She has never had any issues with a dentist before. It is dentist like this which cause children to be afraid. Further note, go to the dentist if you have a tooth ache before the infection gets so bad that there is root damage and possible gum damage plus the possiblility of losing a tooth. read more

Dr Mead is, in one word, "amazing"!! I went in for a root canal, and actually had a superb experience! (On a root canal!!!!). The entire staff is warm and welcoming. Prior to my procedure, I had an assistant discuss every step of the procedure, and any potential complications or side affects. We discussed any/all questions or concerns that I had. Then DURING the procedure, the doctor was exceptional at telling me what to expect, each step along the way. He stopped frequently to check in with me, to make sure I was going ok, and had absolutely NO pain or discomfort. He was very sincere, and did an amazing job. The day after, I only had minor soreness, from the pressure on the tooth, necessary to complete the procedure. The entire group there is unbelievably great, and I won't hesitate for a second to recommend him to anyone that way also need a root canal.
