A blissful oasis from the desert of stress, right here in northern Michigan…read more.. Originally from Boyne City, my family spends upwards of a month here in the summer, on extended vacations from Burbank. I've been floating for several years in places across southern California, and consider floating the single best thing one can do for stress and anxiety. I was beyond thrilled to discover that floating has come to northern Michigan, by way of Willoway. Having gone without a float session since March, I'd all but resigned myself to having to wait - and then, thankfully, came across Willoway's website, and scheduled a session with Christi. Floating! Here! I couldn't wait to check it out, and so glad I did: Out of all the floats I've had since 2014 (100+), this was definitely one of the most memorable - and everything about the experience was perfect. The float chamber is in its own private room, which includes a shower (for pre-float) and amenities. Once you've showered, you enter the float chamber by opening a door - get settled, push a button - and your float begins automatically. The light in the chamber fades out, and you float effortlessly on a bed of body-temperature-heated water. A few minutes prior to the end of your session, a gentle music cue signals the (near) end of the float, and the lights come up. I've been at other float places that "banged" on your tank when the time is up - very jarring! - Willoway is floating perfection, from start to finish. For those who've never tried floating: if you're coping with stress and anxiety (is anyone not?) and want to try something new, this is for you. There are many reasons why people float (pain relief, insomnia, others) - but for me, it's a "reset" and a welcome break from "fight or flight." For the uninitiated, there's a lengthy section on the Willoway website that will answer any questions you might have, and Christi will also take you through all you need to know, beforehand. Thank you, Willoway and Christi! Seriously, NoMi - if you're float-curious, give this a shot. You'll be amazed at what a 60-minute-break from the outside world can do - now, more than ever.

Katherine is an experienced therapist and the 90 minutes went by magically like a good massage does. Another interesting aspect was the bed has speakers beneath it which resonate the surface, especially the lower frequencies. There is so much knowledge coming out about frequencies used for healing and can come from light, sound, and even smell all having frequency components. All in all looking forward to coming back and exploring more of their services like the float room and sound healing/salt room. My wife's facial was amazing and their focus on natural remedies is a welcome change!

The relaxation room is connected to the lobby and separated by nothing more than a sheer curtain. You can hear all conversations and traffic. Not so relaxing. Pro: you can order a glass of Prosecco. Con: this spa is missing all the elements. It's nice. It's clean and nothing more. Pro tip: Head to Solace Spa in Boyne. You can enjoy all the amenities before and after your service.

Let me start this review by saying that I travel A LOT - and I love getting massages on the road…read more I pride myself in the unique fact that I have gotten massages from some of the most exotic locations in the world - including Fiji, Shanghai, and countless others around the US and world. This little spa at the BEAUTIFUL Inn at Bay Harbor in Petoskey, Michigan gives all these other spas a serious run for their money. I received one of the best massages of my LIFE here and I am so grateful. The staff here really proves that "midwestern hospitality" is alive and well. Everybody was so kind and accommodating. I was freaking out that I was running a few minutes late - but it was no problem at all for these professionals. Further, their spa, while small, had the nicest, fuzziest, and most comfortable robes ever. I sometimes struggle to find robes that fit me well because I am not a small guy - but these robes fit SOOOOO well...even for me! The price is a little steep; but it's worth it! The next time you are in the area - be sure to stop in and treat yourself! :)

Lakeside Spa...ugh. Where do I start?…read more My friend and I scheduled two massages there while on vacation on Mackinac Island. We both had Jacob the masseuse - a young fellow who we both question if he was even a licensed massage therapist. The massage was such a light touch - it didn't help relieve any muscle tension for either of us and he skipped "massaging" my friend's arms all together! You have a significant upcharge for any "service" other than the basic light to medium massage (it was never even near medium) that included deep tissue, reflexology, anything. We both said to the front desk girl it was the worst massage we ever had! Girl shows mild interest and says "Oh? Sorry." My friend asked "Isn't there anything you can do for us?" Girl: "Umm...I could give you 10% off or you could come back tomorrow." Us: "No thanks. We'll take the 10% off." So, the $186 (!!) massage - $155 for 60 minutes plus a 20% mandatory gratuity add-on was minorly discounted. Gee....thanks. How about you get a qualified massage therapist instead? They count on one and done customers as they know they're not returning to this vacation island. Lakeside Spa has no right calling themselves a spa - absolutely terrible. They literally ripped us off as we didn't get what we paid for. Stay away from this place!

The process itself was very uncomfortable; the technician applied significant pressure to my eyes and left a bright light on unnecessarily. Unlike other local spots at lower price points, there was zero effort toward client comfort (no neck or hand massage during the setting time). To top it off, they auto-add a 20% gratuity and will question you in front of other customers if you try to adjust it. This feels like a business charging for its "prime location" rather than the quality of its work. Save your money and find a local professional who can actually deliver a lift.

From there you wait in a separate waiting area which offers complimentary granola, water and tea. You do not wait very long. When it is time for your service, a spa worker will bring you to your designated area based on what service you are there for. I have visited the spa twice this year for pedicures and both times have been wonderful experiences. The pedicure area is very clean and sanitary. I had Delores both times I visited and she was so great. Very gentle, informative and detailed oriented. The spa at the resort has been exceptional with their services and their kindness and I will definitely continue to visit when I am in the area!
