AVOID RIVERS EDGE MARINA AT ALL COSTS!! Beware of unscrupulous business practices. My wife and I had to have our boat towed in to Rivers edge, marina for repairs. A a several inch section of the wiring harness had melted on the manifold. Upon arrival, the owner, Rick Hugsley said you need to trade that boat in. The sales person/operations manager, Robert (nice guy) then had my wife and I get off of the boat we were on and get on a brand new boat where we were transported home by Robert, who tried to sell us the boat. We weren't interested in buying a new boat. Robert even called me at home a few days later trying to sell the boat. I had no problem with that. No harm in trying. They had our boat for a couple of weeks during which time they fixed the wiring, harness, starter breaker, etc. The boat would not start. It just kept turning over and wasn't getting fuel. Jeremy, the service manager thought it might be the ECM and was waiting on a price. I called back a couple of days later and spoke to a very nice person name Ashley who said it was going to cost around $10,000 , more than the boat is worth. She said I know you were looking at a new boat. I asked to speak to Jeremy. Jeremy said it wouldn't cost $10,000 but it would be more than a boat is worth. He told me you have a nice home and an old boat and it might be time for an upgrade. We were starting to feel that everyone was trying to sell us a boat instead of fixing our "old boat ". We decided to have our boat towed back to our dock and pay the bill for what was done. It cost around $2000, including the tow to Rivers Edge marina. I pulled the ECM out of the engine that supposedly was bad and sent it off to California for diagnostic testing. I was told that the ECM was working properly. It cost me $120 for the testing. I called Partrick Barlow owner of Mobile Marine Services who does boat repairs on Lake Hickory and other lakes. His phone number is 828-443-9550. He sent Mike and Jesse out to look at our boat. I told Mike the whole story and the first thing he did was open up the wiring harness that Rivers Edge Marina repaired. One of the wires was not connected. He fixed the wire, taped up the wiring harness and the boat started up.Less than one hour and they didn't try to sell me a boat! It cost me $690 out of the $2000 bill from Rivers Edge Marina to fix the wiring harness and a thermostat. I felt that if the wiring harness wasn't fixed properly, the ownership should be made aware of it, and the circumstances surrounding our boat repairs. I left a message for the owner to give me a call. Robert, the salesman/operations manager called me back. I told Robert that I wanted to speak to the owner. Robert told me that it was his job to get back to me. We had a conversation about things that were said and done including paying $690 for the repair of a wiring harness. I called back to Lakeside, Marina, and asked if the owner could give me a call. Again, Robert called me back. I told him I paid for the wiring harness to be fixed and it wasn't. He said he was sorry I wasn't happy. He said that he went over the bill and I should've been charge more money. I guess all that great Diagnostic work I got! Then I got a phone call from Rick Hugsley, owner of Rivers Edge and Lakeside marinas on lake hickory. My biggest complaint was that I was charged $690 for repairing the wiring harness and because it wasn't fixed properly I incurred more expenses. The owner went into a tirade and told me that he was a Dentist and has made millions and millions of dollars and he bought two marinas. I just wanted my boat fixed not my teeth. He continued by telling me how much he pays all his employees. It was bazaar to say the least. He told me his service manager Jeremy was an asshole for telling me the things he told me. He ended up calling me an asshole too, and that pretty much was the end of our conversation. There are other reviews similar in nature. No willingness to rectify the problem. Mr. Hugsley thinks he has a monopoly on Lake Hickory. There are other choices for service and fuel as I had mentioned. read more
