I recently moved back to Belleville after many years away in Ottawa and Halifax where there are many options for hiking. I am SO glad to have discovered this place. It's a beautiful spot for a long hike outdoors. It is conveniently located just outside of Belleville, off Highway 2 near Loyalist College. There is plenty of parking available all the time.
There are probably about 5 trails that branch off of the one strip and there is a map to help you navigate. The trails on the map are colour-coded and if you are on the trails you will notice that the trees along the trail are occasionally marked with the correspondingly color of the trail. The entirety probably stretches ~8km and each trail probably varies from .4km-1.5km (if my memory serves me well!). I have only really visited here in the winter, but it's not usually busy here.
My only complaint about this place is the unfriendliness to dogs. Dog owners here all seem really responsible. Never have I come across dog owners who have failed to pick up after their dog and all dogs are really well behaved. I've read online that there was one designated path for dogs to be off-leash but after some complaints and discussions with lawyers, they now require that all dogs remain on leash. The only area dog owners are able to allow their dogs off leash in this city is the dog park which frankly is disgusting and small. It would be nice if they were to reinstate the permittance of a single trail for dogs to be off leash. Those who wish to avoid off-leash dogs would have the option of approximately 4 other trails. read more
