I don't know what I can say about Beira Mar... it is an absolute seafood lover's dream come true…read more Everything is caught that day from the lampas to the fish, ready to be prepared as you find suitable or let the chef and staff season it traditionally. The seafood soup/chowder/bisque bread bowl is a MUST, as it is foolishly cheap for what can be a whole meal for a person. Bread is baked fresh that day, in house. The fish can be done a few different ways, but best split and grilled (per our server's suggestion). There will be butter, there will be herbs, there will BE GARLIC!!! It's basically heaven from the wood or charcoal fired grills delivered straight to your table... after you have finished your soup/chowder and lampas of course (think mussels meet escargot). Reservations are almost a must here, as the locals love it as much as tourists do and even in the off-season we almost go turned away because we hadn't made a reservation. Buuuuuuuut, the staff and owner were sympathetic (we had just arrived and probably looked in rare form) so they sat us and we loved every bite of everything we got. Let the server guide you, once they know what you like they will put together an unforgettable meal for you. I wish we had been there when not raining and during the day so we could see the ocean and the open doors/windows of the patio and beyond. I dream of Beira still to this day... months later... as there are very few places like this in the states, which is just a damn shame tbh. If you are on the island this is 1 of 2 MUST visit places in my opinion. However, it is the ONE must when you figure in price-value proposition into ranking. Keep doing what you are doing, Beira Mar - you've set a ridiculously high bar for the Azores!

We opted for the grouper and another local fish which is escaping me at the moment...but both were phenomenal, cooked to perfection, and well seasoned. Well worth the short drive from downtown Angra.

But I was totally satisfied with my choice! From the outside I wasn't expecting such a large and nicely decorated restaurant. There were almost no other customers, and my server seemed delighted to have someone to make a good impression on. They had a few different types of steak; I ordered the €12 one which came covered with bacon & shrimp (normally there would also be mushrooms but I asked them to hold the mushrooms). There were also fresh-fried potato chips, a side salad, and some rice, plus I'd asked for bread and cheese as a starter, and I was also brought some olives. What I'm saying is that I got A LOT of food! And it was all really good! The steak was boneless and lean and really, really juicy. All that stuff on top of it created a ton of flavor that made every bite of that steak absolutely delicious. And those potato chips I mentioned, that sounds corny but if you get a dish that comes with those, start on them right away while they're still fresh from the fryer. All that food on my plate plus a 1.5-liter bottle of water ran me €16.50. It was very reasonable and I expect to return here before I leave Terceira Island.

We went on Thursday morning around 11am, and was disappointed that it won't open until noon. My empty stomach did not want to wait so we left. But I came back two days later for lunch and very glad that I did. We ordered grilled grouper and fried "abrotea", both were so fresh! Especially the latter was impressive; even though it was fried but very light and tender! The waiter suggested this local fish, and we were happy that we took his advice. The interior of this place is nicely decorated that we browsed around while waiting for our dishes. The service was excellent. The waiter speaks fluent English. It is next to the fresh market, so we got to visit it too!

The architecture of this restaurant is very unique and stands out from all the other building - looks like spaceship. They have a small parking lot or you can park somewhere nearby on the street. We were there quite early for dinner, we sat the opposite side of the sunset (it was glaring and it wouldn't have been enjoyable because it was really warm in there. Not sure if the AC was broken that day, but they had the fan on which helped a little. The waiter was attentive and gave us the run down on the specials of the day. We had ordered bread and wine. We watched the sky as it turned from golden yellow to pinkish purple. It was a really nice restaurant to enjoy sunset colors and good food. We had ordered the limpets and risotto balls as our appetizers, which were delicious! We could've just ordered a few rounds of that and called it a night, but of course we want to try other entrees. My bf and I got their local beef steak served with cheese, another got a wreckfish entre, and gully jack fish entre. We all enjoyed our meals a lot and cleared the plate, except me. I normally like my steak medium rare, so that's what I ordered. It looked like it was perfectly done. It's two pieces of steak sandwiching local cheese. It was a bit hard to cut through it since the knives weren't that sharp, but I managed. It tasted delicious and fresh, but it was a bit on the chewy side. It wasn't as tender as it looked. Flavor was good and it paired well with a side salad. However it was a bit too much for. I think I would share this dish if I were to order it again, since it's two pieces of steak. I would like to try other dishes. Nothing like ending the night with desserts. My friend and I got their pineapple, since we've been enjoying them in Ponta Delgado. My boyfriend got their brownie and ice cream, while the other got their "special" the lava cake. We were disappointed with the pineapple. It was really sad looking, just sliced in finger length without any kind of presentation. What's worse is that it's not sweet at all. On the other hand, the boys with the chocolate loved theirs. I tried the brownie and I actually liked it a lot for a person that does not eat chocolate. Maybe next time.

We had just gotten into Terceira and were famished and although this isn't close to the airport, it wasn't a far drive so we decided to try it out. Oh, it also happened to be open which was a plus. Pulling into the parking lot we were immediately taken aback by how futuristic and sheek the design of the building was. It looks like a spaceship. We walked in and went up the stairs and were quickly seated next to these giant windows which overlooked the countryside. It truly was picturesque. Even though it was crowded, we were helped quickly, I believe by the manager, who helped us make our decisions. We ordered the sangria and the manager asked if we liked it sweeter or drier to which we replied sweeter. Let me tell you, this was the best sangria we've ever had. It was sweet without being overly sweet and had different fruit than your typical oranges and strawberries. It had those but also blueberries and red currants which popped with flavor as you bit them. For appetizers we got the octopus salad and were feeling a bit adventurous so we also ordered the barnacles. The octopus salad was cold and olive oily and was very tasty, especially with the bread that was served. The barnacles come attached to a rock in a grouping, we got 5 on ours and for .85 Euro/barnacle, they were not pricey. They came presented on a bed of sea salt with a small fork to grab into the shells and pluck the meat out. These were very surprising and had a salty flavor like the ocean and I was very glad I tried them! Try them if you're nervous! For our main dishes my mother got grouper with a large prawn and a side salad. She said it was delicious. The salad, like I have noticed all over the islands, is just raw vegetables that come with vinegar and olive oil on the side, no dressing on the actual salad. It is odd at first but it works as a nice palate cleanser, especially between flavorful and heavy bites of your entree. I ordered fried triggerfish (another fish I had never tried), served with lemon risotto and arugula. My dish was amazing. It was fried to perfection and everything went so well together, also the portion was huge! We were unfortunately too full for dessert and we wish we would've come back here but we were only on the island for two days so it was not really possible. Come here and love it; it truly is a gem!

I was aware of this place and wanted to check it out so we made our way up the hill after dinner. The place is the only one we have been to on Terceira so far that had more than super bock. We were quickly greeted, shown a table and given many menus of beers to choose from. I'd say there are about 25 beers you can get here. That and a full bar is here too. Not like a snack bar where they have 6 bottles but a full on bar. So if you're looking for a cocktail, scotch, whisky or something you'll have better luck here. The place is decorated with all sorts of pirate stuff and there was music and a tv. Staff was super friendly and fast and the drinks are reasonably priced. Worth checking out if you're chasing beers. Cheers!
