Other people got the house soup and it was a traditional Terceira soup they were serving that day. Very flavorful and really hit the soul. I got the Salmon salad and though it sounds boring compared to the other things my friends got, I absolutely loved it. The smoked salmon was really great and they give you so much! The salad was really filling and satisfying. I have to say the best part of the meal was the hot cocoa. This was not a cocoa I have ever tasted. my friend got it first and after trying hers, I knew I had to get my own. The cocoa was rich in flavor and so so thick. It was almost like melted chocolate but not that heavy. They steamed the milk and it became creamy and rich and I feel like that only happens with fresh milk. The whipped cream on top just made it go over the top with flavor and deliciousness. I did not find it toothachingly sweet but just the right amount of sweetness that makes you keep wanting to come back for another snip. I seriously would come here just for their hot cocoa. I came in two days ago and inquired about their working hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to make sure they worked during my stay on Terceira Island - on December 29th, 30th, 31st, and January 1st. I was told that they are open despite the New Year's and that they would be "happy to serve me". The bar staff confirmed the hours they had posted on Facebook and Yelp open until midnight - on Friday and Saturday were the hours for this week. Yesterday, on December 29th, I came at 9:45 pm and was told that the kitchen was closed. Flabbergasted, I asked why (maybe something broke?) and was told they close at 10:00 pm. Keep in mind, there were ten other patrons and no one seemed to be leaving; everyone was merrily eating and drinking. Chugging it up to a case of simple misunderstanding, I decided to return today. At 6:30 pm, on December 30th, the four of us walked into the cafe. We were told that there were no spots for us because they had one reservation! There were three empty tables, with only one designated as reserved. There was a table with two chairs and two bar stools. I asked if we could split up. Again, I wanna told a vehement "no". The bar stools were only for customers ordering drinks! Because I wanted to order food, I wasn't allowed to sit there! Incredulous, I asked if they would be willing to give me food to go -- all I wanted was two veggie burgers. The bar staff said it would take 45 minutes for them to make two veggie burgers and we couldn't stand around and wait for them - we needed to leave and come back. Now, I know when I am being discriminated against as a tourist and this has been the worst case of discrimination I have ever experienced. I am not sure what they took issues with but it wa clearly something against us! We were all dressed in varying degrees of formal - from business casual to jeans. We are Americans who clearly can afford their menu - 2,50 Euro per burger. We are the same age as their patrons and bar staff. We do not speak Portuguese beyond the rudimentary "hello." They clearly didn't want this American's business, and I would encourage you not to give them yours!

Elio's has everything from pizza, to pasta dishes, to the freshest fish of the day. We started with an excellent Garlic toast and the Clams Bulhão Pato with a side of bread to soak up all the wonderful sauce the clams cooked in. We were tempted by the fresh seafood options but really wanted some more traditional Italian food so we opted for the Spaghetti Bolognese and the Pasta a la Rose which is a pink cream sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp. The food was fantastic and came out hot which is how we like it. There were a couple of large tables but this didn't effect the service in any way. The staff was very attentive and kept our wine glasses full while we enjoyed a great meal. It was a very relaxing meal after a long day of sightseeing which was much needed. We reccommend giving Elio's a try when you are looking for a great meal, friendly service at a great price - you won't be disappointed.
