Was in the facility twice. My wife & I were thinking of getting a cat for our daughter that attends college here. As you walk in the first set of doors there is a disarray of items on both sides of entry way. We didn't know if it was donations or trash because of dark garbage bags. We entered into main reception area. We overheard a lady finishing up a call with someone. After her call had ended she made inappropriate rude comments about the caller. It was unprofessional & made my wife & I extremely uncomfortable. We didn't know if they are short staffed or inadequately trained by a Manager. We felt if they are going to talk about someone rudely after a phone call, what would they say about us. We were indecisive our first visit, hence the reason we came back. But now we are rethinking this facility if they hire people to run it in such a manner we don't know if we want to purchase an animal. We may peruse the free kitten options or look into neighboring rescues. read more

We've adopted 2 dogs and 2 cats in the last 4 years and each time was a great experience. Our first dog had heartworm, but the had him on medication and sent us home with what he needed at no charge. We brought him in a couple of times to be tested, again, at no extra charge. We've had him 4 years now with no problems. Our 2nd dog was rescued by the ASPCA in Arkansas. We adopted her 2 days after she was transferred. We've had her now for 3 years. And the two cats, brother and sister, were just 8 weeks old when we adopted them. We went for one car but couldn't split them up. Thanks to the Bissell Foundation's Clear the Shelter program we were able to afford both kittens. We've had them now for 2 years and love every one of them. The Humane Society personnel was very kind and helpful each time and the vet was very nice. read more

They were a great help when my dog had her puppies and couldn't take care of them. However when I took her in to be spayed they sent her home right after surgery and she died the next week. When I called they told me I didn't call and leave any messages. Her appetite didn't come right back but we have 2 dogs and she couldn't interact with them. After reintroduction she ate small meals. And looked to be doing better. But she got up this morning walked across my kitchen and dropped dead. read more

Never have I had a worse experience nor been treated so poorly in my life. Not only did the adoption specialist, Laura, call me a liar but she continued to arrogantly speak over me as if am inferior and not worth her valuable time. The longer she ranted the louder and more irritable she became with me. We waited over 72 hours for an answer I had to call to receive. It was obvious on our first visit she had an instant dislike towards me. The second visit I was informed she had another application. I knew then she was not going to allow us to adopt despite my family being well known, upstanding citizens in our community. Little does she realize my family and extended family have been weekly donors of their wish list items. I can no longer contribute to an organization that employs someone with such a miserable, demeaning attitude towards others. read more

My boyfriend and I adopted a 4 year old dog from there this past Saturday! You can tell they take great care of the animals. Most of the staff is friendly, and very knowledgeable with any questions we have! Adopting a dog from them means you get free obedience classes for the dog's life, and 1 year free of the dog park. Our dog was $100, and I think that is a good price considering if you get a dog from a breeder, it would be a lot more expensive! read more

Great place to adopt a pet. Clean, bright, airy, with staff who obviously care about what they do. We adopted a wonderful little tortoiseshell cat there last October. The fact that my Mom volunteers there only slightly influences my rating. I highly recommend this facility and that anyone looking for a pet try a rescue group or this shelter, which is essentially a no-kill shelter - animals are generally kept for as long as it takes to adopt them out. read more

I am writing this 2nd review letter pointed straight to the manager of the Quincy Humane Society. My daughter & I visited in October to fill out an application where we were denied and she left crying. We lost a dog we had for 14+ years due to cancer. I was told if our cats (which we bottle fed and have had for more than 8yrs.) would have their current vaccinations it would be re-reviewed (STILL DENIED after being judged by a relative that carries the same last name. Matthew 7: 1-6). We were excepted at both: The Hannibal Humane Society, and The Homeward Bound Wagon -- where we are currently fostering. Both are very friendly, over accommodating, and not only willing -- but want to go the extra mile to find GOOD HOMES. The Quincy Humane Society is a business (selective in what they take -- cute & cuddly). The Animal Control Officer is the one with the city. To close, AVOID THEM -- There: Arrogant, Judgemental, and Controlling. The other two listed are: Kind, Compassionate, VERY Accommodating, and WANT to go the EXTRA MILE. So take my advice and seek them. read more

The facility is new, obviously very nice. The workers take their jobs seriously, though not all of them are very friendly. They have really nice rooms to spend time with an animal you're interested in. Adoption prices are pretty high. Like $150 to "rescue" a dog. I know they have bills, but I know a lot more people would adopt if the price weren't so high. You don't prepare people for the expense of keeping a dog by making them pay over a hundred dollars to get one. read more

The people that work here are so miserable and could care less about finding homes for these animals it's crazy. When you walk in you don't get greeted and when you ask to do a one on one with a dog they rudely give you a application to fill out. The front desk lady is especially rude and talks down to you and makes you out to be a hardened criminal. My girlfriend and I were looking at getting our current dog a playmate, we looked at a few and found a puppy very similar in age to ours. We asked them if we could place him on hold and she bluntly said "No."she didn't go on to say why or nothing. I asked her why and she said the dog wasn't ready and our dog needed to get its yearly shots. I let her know we were going next week to get that handled, however she would not let us place a hold on him. I came in at the beginning of the next week with paperwork showing he was now up to date however just as I suspected someone had already put a hold on the puppy. I'm glad he found a new home however it would have been nice if we could have added him to our family. Unfortunately we will be looking elsewhere for our new family member. read more
