They have a good selection of books in both Spanish and English. We like that they have some travel books, art books, and a nice selection of both fiction and nonfiction. They have a cute indoor cafe with food options and seating. They sell a lot of little gifts. I've called and visited so many libraries in PR I have lost count. During this past week I decided to go to Rio Piedras, "barrio" in San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital, where a lot of libraries surround one of the University of Puerto Rico. After going to 4 different libraries, I ran into this one. Little did I know I had found a gem in the middle of Río Piedras... One of the employees there took me to the second floor, where old, vintage and classic books are hidden from the public eye. Several first editions. This librarian took me on "a trip" down Puerto Rico's most interesting stories... after an hour or so I left the store with around 7 books based on the topic I have been looking for and every book ranged from $5-15. I took 7 books for little over $70.00 and when I reached for a CD of Puertorrican traditional songs, the librarian gave me the cd for free. This place is the best! They have from the newest to the oldest books! Do NOT hesitate to visit it if you love books.

If you have the chance to visit the store while Negron is working he will be your best guide to help you choose wonderful texts and probably develop a respectul and kind conversation about literature. You can also acquire some of Negrons publicatios and have it signed by him. La Esquina is within the space of Taller Comunidad La Goyco a non for profit organization that rescued this century old school from abandonment with the help of neighbors and for the past 4 years have turned it into a resilience center for it's community offering health, arts and cultural programs.

It is not huge but you can wander for a bit among the stacks and find mysteries, adventure, fiction, nonfiction, classics and current popular books to choose from. There is an assortment of titles and authors available in English and Spanish. If you traveled with a young or teen reader, they too will be happy. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable bibliophiles willing to recommend or help you find a book. They have a seating area and a very nice cafe. If it is a rainy day and you are looking for something to do, it could be a nice escape. So, by all means, make way to The Bookmark.

We loved it so much we actually went twice during our trip - and even made a final stop before heading to the airport to go home. On our first visit, Hector (the roaster) happened to be there, which made the experience feel even more special. The staff overall were all so kind and attentive. The coffee is absolutely excellent - velvety smooth, rich, and delicious. I could easily drink more than one cup. I had a latte, and my husband had a macchiato, and both were great. They have a cute little outdoor atrium seating area, but we preferred indoors where all the comfy pillow seating was. Just a note - they don't offer decaf - but for regular coffee drinkers, it's a must-visit. Such a gem in Old San Juan!
