There are quite a few interesting stalls, with a funky leather and other fabric products stall, several crafted jewellery stands, some pottery and a really nice stall selling bowls turned from wood. Its a bit pricey for day to day purchases, but could be a good place to get a one-off or something special

There are a couple of good jewellery stands that have very nice earring and other bits and the usual pottery stands, one of which often has seconds for sale which make it a bit cheaper. It's not a cheap place to visit as it seems to be marketed largely towards the clientele that Cambridge attracts which is mainly upmarket people but it is always worth a wander around and there are some bargains amongst the expensive stuff. A good place to take the parents if doing the grand tour of Cambridge and seeing all the touristy bits.

Trying to get him to talk to me about an error another staff member (inadvertently) made during my purchase could have been a Monty Python sketch. -- Yes, there is an error on your receipt. -- No, I don't see what is there to explain. Topped beautifully by: -- What, was I supposed to pause lunching for your two pounds? Had a blast. Especially enjoyed communicating through another staff member for about 20 min, as Ross couldn't be bothered to emerge in person. Instead, he kept delegating a very sweet (and understandably confused) young salesperson to tell me to bugger off. When I asked about a better time to come back, I was told to try tomorrow. The staff looked mortified and kept apologizing, though they did nothing wrong. Needless to say, the wait was totally worth finally getting to meet this guy. Discussion proceeded along the lines of "Could you help me understand this receipt?" - "What is there to understand? It's just entered wrongly!". Priceless -- might even organize groups to go for professional incompetence viewings. Thanks, Ryman! Would love to hear how this "supervisor" actually landed the job.

( Cambridge )…read more I visited this store to buy some craft and painting items for my sons 14th birthday, only to be insulted directly to my face by the manager, my day wasn't going so well because i had had a recent loss in the family, only to be told by the manager that my loss and pain was nothing compared to hers. then proceeded to insult me further. This is not the first time the manager has done something like this, i have been to this store on multiple occasions, only to have her berating someone. or kicking them out of the store because she don't have what they want.

I came away impressed: A great shop near central Cambridge. I arrived looking for a knitting needle…read morethat I neglected to bring with me from the US. Seeing the front window filled with sewing machines, I worried that the focus was too much on sewing to have much for knitters -- but I was dead wrong. Most of the back room was devoted to yarn, needles and other knitting notions and patterns. None of the expensive high-end brands (Madelinetosh, etc.) and a lot of baby yarn and blends (not my thing) but loads of solid yarn choices, including a whole case filled with Opal and Trekking sock yarn. And I was blown away to see SPINNING FIBER (roving); not many craft stores carry this! Helpful, friendly sales clerks. Expert advice, too: one of the two clerks was offering a customer some rather sophisticated advice about yarn substitutions for a pattern. I would be delighted to have a shop like this near my home.
