I loved taking my two beagles to this park! It's a relatively short drive from where I live --495, Rt 50 and bam! You're there! Because I went during the weekday, the park entrance fee was free. It's otherwise $6 per vehicle or free for veterans and active-duty. I was so blown away by how beautiful the park was maintained. I have become somewhat of a park snob recently after getting two high energy puppies. It's imperative to me now that the places I take them doesn't have tall grass that hide nasty rubbish like broken glass, chickens bones, or chewing gums hidden in poorly kept lawns. Talk about MANICURED LAWN and immaculately kept landscape! I loved every bit of the dog park and the dog beach area as much as the rest of the park. My two dogs had a wonderful time checking out the beach for the first time. The rest area near the closest parking lot also has water hose to rinse off the dogs after swimming. It also had a dry dog park dogs can peruse too. The local residents were very helpful upon visiting. I wouldn't have known had they not told me. And if neither the dog park or the beach is your thing for the anxious puppies you might have out there, you can also checkout 6 miles of beautifully maintained walking paths to enjoy. There's thoughtfully placed parking and restrooms, benches, etc so it makes it easy to just explore, rest, or keep going. I'm looking forward to returning again in the near future!

This dog beach is amazing!!! We're currently teaching our dog to swim and it's perfect for her to learn and for my wife and I to join in and teach her! We can't wait to come back every week for the rest of the summer!

We had a BLAST at the dog beach! Didn't get a chance to visit the actual park area because our boy was just too tuckered out from playing in the water. He had a great time and the other dogs were friendly too! The beach area could definitely use a good clean up, but it didn't really bother us that much, as we were too busy having fun. This is a dog beach, so expect to get wet, sandy and slobbered on! Definitely found a hidden gem here and can't wait to come back. Edited to add: After visiting other nearby dog beaches, this one is definitely our favorite. The sand here is soft and the water is slightly more calm/easier for our dog to swim in vs. one with more waves!

My dog had the best time here! The beach was a bit crowded but we knew we went at a busy time. Did not see any aggressive dogs there and multiple dogs playing with each other. Owners we're observant and friendly as well. Water isn't super clean but it's part of the bay so that's to be expected. However the park has a washing station for your dog after swimming which was amazing. Will definitely go back

The QWP Dog Park is part of the 350+ acre Quiet Waters Park in Anne Arundel County which is nearly next to the City of Annapolis and Hillsmere. It is the largest dog park in Maryland and was one of the first in the entire area. It is actually TWO dog parks - one for small dogs and another for larger dogs. Don't be intimidated upon the first visit with your small dog. When parking, you will see gigantic dogs the size of horses running around inside the fence...you don't need to go into THAT park if you have a tiny "Fifi" poodle or Bichon with you. The small dog park is on the other side and the entrance is just down the path. It's easy to find. The small dog park is also more shaded than the large dog park. I should disclose that I am biased to QWP since I am a member of the Friends of Quiet Waters Park which help raise money to support the park (outside of AA County funding). I would give this dog park 5 stars but I can't say it's "as good as it gets"...YET. The grass is faded in some areas due to foot traffic and it's a dust bowl at times in the summer It is very difficult and expenisve to replenish the lawn at an active dog park and the cost and functionality of a synthetic surface does not coincide with the Quiet Waters Park's objective. It is a nature park, not an amusement park. But it is still an awesome dog park and improvements are on the way thanks to the donations by the loyal Dog Park members which so generously support it. By the way, the dog beach replenishment is under review by Anne Arundel County. Hopefully it will be back in business by next spring or summer. This is a County effort, not an effort of the Friends of Quiet Waters. The dog beach is a huge undertaking due to the erosion and oyster field off of the beach on the bed of the South River...that is one reason it has taken so long to get funding for this approved and in motion. One more note...the entire park is closed to car traffic on Tuesdays and the dog park is a good 3+ miles direct walk from the gate...so there is not much going on there on Tuesdays.

Pretty sweet dog park. There is absolutely no shortage of space. My puppers have all the room in the world to run their hearts out. I'd highly recommend going between 4-6 in the evening. If you want the opportunity to socialize your dog, there will be many furry friends to meet. Only a couple of bucks to get in, and free for military.

enjoying a swim at the dog beach area, not park from the dog park section.

Oh my gosh, this park is wonderful! This is really a review for two things: the enclosed dog park, and then the dog beach that is just a short hop down the trail. Both of these are just a very, very small portion of the massive Quiet Waters park, so if your doggo has energy to burn, this is the perfect place to come. The park is quite nice. If you've got a runner, the park is fully fenced in, and it's got shade for the days when it's roasting out. I really appreciate that they have water for the dogs - it's so nice not to have to bother hauling your own. As others have mentioned, there are two paddocks so you can separate the big dogs from the little ones. We also spent some time at the dog beach, which has re-opened. It's relatively small, but there's plenty of space for dogs to jump in and cool off in the South River. There's also a sandy area where you can throw some stadium chairs down if you like. I don't know if it's always been this way, but the trail leading down there is kind of treacherous, and it wasn't marked at all. There was tons of signage directing towards the park, but none at all for the beach, even though it's marked on the park map. One last thing, there's a dog rinsing station on the South River scenic overlook trail (halfway between the dog beach and the dog park). If your dog likes to roll around in the dirt or mud like ours does, that is VERY handy.

This was my first time. We had a closed off section in the back of the bar area but they also have a doggy gym and play area. There were a number of doggy alumni there with their owners. The bar has a food and drink menu and the staff were very friendly. Be mindful that the menu prices don't match the prices items ring in at so check your total before you pay. Overall a nice place to bring your pup and enjoy some food and drink. There is also a dog park right outside.

I've used their boarding and daycare…read moreservices a few times and have also come by often with my dog for the indoor park play with other dogs. They've recently started adding more to their menu, which is nice. I like that it's indoor, and the staff is friendly. This is where New District Brewing Company used to be, and it's right next to Shirlington Dog Park. The founder, Daniel, is a super nice guy, and I can tell he cares about his customers' experiences. It originally just started out as an indoor dog park/daycare with alcohol, but it has since evolved into an enrichment facility ("canine cardio"). They also sometimes have events like puppy yoga, which is really cute. You can also rent the upper level for a private party, and depending on the tier/package you get, they include goodies for the pups. The two times I've used their boarding services, there were some inconveniences. The boarding does not happen on-site, but rather at the owners' home. The first time, I was expecting to pick up my dog by 10:30am, but it turned out they were running late getting to Snouts & Stouts, and they didn't get there until 11:15; I wasted 45 minutes of my workday morning and had to reschedule a meeting. They had also broken my dog's food bowl and didn't tell me until I got home and realized it was missing. It was expensive because it was ceramic and a slow-feeder. Brittany then said she would order me a new one, but it took her a couple days to actually order it, and then she accidentally sent it to her home instead of mine even though I gave her the address, so I had to go pick it up; in the mean time we just hand fed our dog. The second time I boarded her, we included some medication that HAD to be refrigerated. I wrote instructions both in the medical section of the booking and on the bottle itself--2 pills in the AM, 1 in the PM--and i included exactly enough pills to last the entire trip (it was 5 nights - 15 pills). When I picked her up, there were still 10 pills in the bottle, and the bottle was clearly warm and not refrigerated. AND they forgot my dog's food bowl--again. At least this time they came out to me instead of me having to go out to them. I know my dog has a lot of fun with them, but I feel like I can't rely on them from a logistical point of view. I also like that they don't have toys out because some dogs can get possessive or reactive over them. My dog LOVES tennis balls, and while she doesn't get aggressive, she also stops engaging with other dogs and only focuses on chewing and hoarding the ball. However, the last two times I went (which was admittedly several months ago), they started throwing balls around and my dog didn't get the socialization/activity that I brought her there for. I brought here there to play with other dogs, not play with toys; she can do that at home. There have also been several times when I've gone and they've decided to close early. The more they do that, the more I feel like customers won't come; why say you'll keep it open until 9 if you're not actually open until 9? I'll get there at 7:45-8 and they'll say they're gonna close early. They already open late (5pm) on weekdays, so to cut even 30 minutes off is already cutting 12.5% of operating hours. Overall, though, my dog loves playing with the other dogs here and does seem to get a ton of play time when she's enrolled in daycare/boarding, so maybe I just have to suck it up when it comes to these inconveniences. I know there are other indoor-dog-park-and-bar establishments, but this is the only one I know of that also offers daycare and boarding. I think it's a bit on the pricier side for the entrance/membership fees, but they've gotta make money somehow, and I know that commercial real estate can't be cheap in that area! If your dog doesn't have any special medical needs and doesn't need special food bowls then I also 100% recommend this place for daycare and boarding.

Whether you want to walk along the waterfront, sit on a bench with a view, or just let the breeze hit your face while your kids play. It has a little bit of everything. I've been here at least 5-7 times and still haven't explored it all! Playground: There's something for every age group from a sweet tot lot for the little ones to a multi-level climbing structure with twisty slides that kept my oldest busy for a while. There are swings, a merry-go-round, and plenty of open space to run around or play. Scenic Walks & Waterfront: We usually park near the visitor center (convenient and close to everything!) and stroll down to the pier or relax on the benches with that peaceful waterfront view. You'll find grassy picnic spots, a pier with folks fishing, and even a small beach and separate dog beach. The trails are partly shaded and the breeze coming off the water makes it feel extra calming. Stroller-Friendly: Yes, it's stroller-friendly! The trails are paved, but heads-up: it's not totally flat there are some hills. Still, it's very walkable and manageable with a stroller. Great for littles who need a nap or just want a ride. Extras: Bathrooms are located inside the visitor center, and there's a quiet garden area called Mary's Garden if you need a tranquil reset. I've always had friendly experiences with the park staff when entering and asking questions. Parking is $6 per car and there's usually plenty of space, especially if you don't mind walking a bit. Why I Love It: This park has become one of my go-to spots when we need a peaceful outing. Between the water views, the open space, and the mix of kid-friendly and adult-friendly features, it's just easy to love. Perfect for picnics, gentle mornings, or letting your thoughts wander while the kids play.

Hence, there were very few visitors in the park. When we pulled up, no one was at the toll booth. You just made your payment to park and you were on your way. If you use my photos as a reference, you can see exactly what type of day it was. It was no more than 50 degrees with low clouds and light rain. Visibility wasn't the best. After we parked our car, we started to walk around the property. The booths were closed and the only people that we saw were a family playing on the playground and a parent taking his son fishing. A park ranger came by and parked next to our car but when we came back, he drove off. He was trying to figure out why we were there. When you walk down the path, you'll notice that the sand is a rusty color. I've seen wet sand in California, but the sand at this state park was different in color. All of the sand was also soaking wet due the rising tides. You can see bridge across the water and a boat or two on the water. The winds were blowing and the water was choppy. You definitely weren't out on the water unless it was work-related. Sandy Point has a plaque in which it outlines the history of this area. It was once a segregated beach. Things have changed for the better and now everyone gets to enjoy the area. When I saw photos from summer months in this area, Sandy Point is the place to be.Maybe we will come back during the summer months for a different experience, so that we can enjoy it, just like the locals.

For $20, you can drive a car full of friends and family through the park to see the lights. I feel like they really stepped it up in 2025 and I was more than glad to make that donation, via the $20 entrance fee, to the SPCA. Another fun way to see Lights on the Bay is via bike. There is a local club that organizes a ride in early December - they deck out their bikes and take a leisurely, albeit chilly, ride through the grounds.
