The fact that this place is still up and running is amazing. The inside is very different now from when Clerks was filmed here. The outside is mostly untouched. I know to some it's just a convenient store but to my girlfriend it was/is one of the coolest bucket list places she wanted to go visiting from the mid west then driving an additional 3,1/2 hours from where i live on the east coast. The movie Clerks is one of our favorite movies, we got to visit it in the metaverse first then finally the day arrives we made it to the store and bought way more than one would from a convenience store, but honestly it was so we can say we did. Only thing that would have made this more epic is if J and silent Bob was there but alas not all dreams can come true. If you are thinking if it's worth it I say yes I'd make the drive again and might one day especially to throw up a sticker or two on the wall. read more

LEONARDO: NJ legend Kevin Smith got his start and inspiration for the movie Clerks working at Quick Stop Groceries and it is a real place right off of Route 36! We stopped by to see the "world's most famous convenience store" and had a major fan moment. Dogs are not allowed inside, but it was fun to be like Jay and Silent Bob just hanging out in front. Noel Westerlind likes Quick Stop. Very clean and easy to buy things. Some of the Quick Stops have gas and it is easy to pop in and grab your milk or lottery tickets and go off to your destinations. I like quick stop. Quickstop is bigger and clean your the end all the Mike's stores locally, and they have a better selection and a larger quantity of goods. Quickstop and 7-Eleven I do not have decaf coffee overnight that is the only thing I fault them for. When I drove to the Quick Stop, I was shocked how small this place actually was. Kevin Smith got a lot out of this small place. Admittedly, I didn't really buy anything, and most of the Clerks branding has been removed, but I still felt right at home here in this store. The staff kind of rolled their eyes at me just uttering "I'm a fan of the movie.", but I think it is to be expected at this point. The only thing I didn't really like is that the parking in front of the store is a little tight, and in need of a new coat of paint. The storefront next door to the Quick Stop (the VHS / Nintendo rental store from Clerks) is gone now, and there isn't much else there to this place. It is a convenience store. All of the usual convenience store items are here and ready to be bought. The retro aesthetic is a part of the charm. read more

You know what, I'm guilty as charged. About 5 years ago, I did the whole "take the pictures outside of the Quick Stop thing" too. Yes, I'm a Kevin Smith junkie, and I can quote Clerks with the best of them. So why am I reviewing it now? Well, why the hell not? I will say that I enjoyed seeing it. It gave me the opportunity to remember something that I really enjoyed for a few minutes of my life. And yes, I bought a Gatorade there. I had to. Just to say that i did. Yes, I came here specifically because of the movie Clerks. It's been on the "to-do" list for several years now. Take away Clerks/Kevin Smith though, it's actually not a bad store at all. So I made the 1 hour drive from New York just to just take my pic outside the store as so many do (and some inside). There's a faded Clerks 2 poster outside the window and a few pics/plaques inside near the register. Right next door is the former RST Video - but although you can still see VHS tapes and such inside, the sign is no longer in the front. The walls are no longer white, but the pics I took will be in black & white anyway, so no harm no foul. Clerks fans will undoubtedly recognize little areas inside and the overall layout. Obviously I have no idea what this place looked like back in the mid 90's, but it was pretty clean today, neat, and a place that I wish was in my own neighborhood due to it's cheap and 'convenient' items you'd find in most places like this. As many other reviewers on here have already mentioned, you should at least purchase something if you're coming because of the movie. Of course I purchased a snack, a Gatorade, and even shoe polish (yes, I wanted a keepsake I would never use) and it was quite cheap - though that could be the area, since if I bought the same items near me, I'd be paying a lot more. So for both the experience and for the actual store itself (if you're a local resident), it's certainly worth a visit. read more

Like Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, the Quick Stop is another must-see for fans of Kevin Smith. His first movie, Clerks, is based on his interactions with customers and co-workers while working here in the '90s. Don't be afraid to pull out your camera and take a few photos, the employees seem rather accustomed to it by now. It really isn't much other than its name states; a quick stop to pick up cigarettes, light groceries, or snacks. Seriously, walking through its door is just like walking back in time, because nothing has really changed since the film. The store itself is your usual mini-mart with the addition of Clerks posters and paraphernalia behind the counter. It's a pretty small spot and parking is limited, but it's fine for a "quick stop". Coming here was pretty much the highlight of my trip to Jersey. The lady behind the counter was really nice, letting us get stupid with our camera. She's been at the store for 18 years, and she knows Kevin Smith really well. I can really only describe this place as magical. I make sure to stop by each and every time I'm in the area. It's less than 1/10 of a mile out of your way when you're leaving Sandy Hook which is when I'm always there. In case you haven't read the other reviews, this is where the film Clerks was filmed which catapulted Kevin Smith and the Viewaskew universe into stardom. When you drive up you can't help but feel the history as the place remains largely unchanged from when they filmed the original movie in black and white over 20 years ago. For that reason I doubt they'll ever renovate. I'll rephrase, they BETTER never renovate.When you walk in, all the nostalgia that was that phenomenal first movie comes rushing back. You can picture Kevin Smith's mother on her knees picking out milk in front of the dairy fridge or one of Walt Flanagan's many characters slamming eggs on the glass doors. You think of Randall and Dante behind the counter and Veronica shooting the fire extinguisher at the Chewley's gum moron. For me, this is an absolute must visit place. It's on par with any NJ landmark only so much cooler. And in the highly unlikely event that you've never seen Clerks, watch it, go there and I promise you it will be unlike any visit to a convenience store you've ever had. I have to laugh about the other review since I did the same thing and I am a local. On one of my rides I thought it would be cool to stop by the Quick Stop and get a picture of my bike in front. Of course once I got there I was embarrassed. When I pulled up the lot was empty but as soon as I posed my bike a vehicle would pull in. I was trying not to be obvious but I guess I am not the first person to go the store. I have never been inside though since the Quick Stop pretty serves the folks that are local to Leonardo. There are other C Stores (this is NJ) that are much closer. I am surprised there is only one other review. This is a must see for any Clerks fan visiting the area. read more

Far from just being the movie set for Clerks, this is still a working convenience store on the Jersey Shore. And it really is amazing how little of it has changed in 20 years. All of the iconic "locations" are still there (but modernized). The cigarettes that Randall sold to a minor are still behind the counter. The milk and eggs that the anal customers shook, are still toward the back in the refrigerator case. The candy aisles that the epic, climactic fight took place in still in the middle of the store. Even the room where the most disgusting (implied) sex scene in movie history is still locked away behind the big silver door reading "employees only." If only I had remembered to ask for porn! The regulars and real clerks here have the patience of saints when tourists like myself take pictures of ALL OF IT! I bought a Brisk Iced Tea to fuel me on the rest of my road trip and it was about average price (and didn't exist in 1994). I'm sure the old people buying scratchers at the counter would be less patience if people just gaped. Just be forewarned, the parking situation is less than optimal out front. Turning off Leonard Avenue into a diagonal parking spot in full traffic can be hazardous. But the chance to relive my youth, and be a total Kevin Smith fanboy, outweighed potential damage to my car for sure. read more

If you're a fan of Kevin Smith - especially his first film "Clerks" this is a must visit tourist attraction. However, once you get there and realize it's a pretty run of the mill New Jersey convenience store, and if you're going to actually buy stuff you're better off hitting up a Wawa or 7-11. It'd be a better experience if the actual employees knew a little more, or at least appreciated the film a little bit - but as others referenced, they know nothing about the film, and actually have a short tolerance when it comes to you lingering around. I understand it is a business, so do yourself a favor, if you are going to go - buy something at the store. read more

If you've ever seen the Kevin Smith movie "Clerks" (If you haven't, you really should!), than you'll recognize this as the actual convenient store from the film, and goes by the same name still! The "RST Video" store from the film was unoccupied when I was there, but not sure about the status currently" Anyways, it is really cool to see in person and of course you have to get a photo op out front. I assure you we're open! Continuing on my tour of places of the View Askewniverse, we now come to THE place that needs no introduction: Quick Stop. If you know Kevin Smith, then you know Quick Stop. It's the epicenter of the View Askewniverse. It's where Dante worked in "Clerks", where Jay and Silent Bob hung out for hours on end, it's where someone stuck gum in the lock. I went as part of a tour led by Brian O'Halloran, better known as "Dante" himself. When we first got there, I was like a little fanboy, just smiling from ear to ear. I would liken it to Ponce de Leon finding the Fountain of Youth, or the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock or Oprah at Hermes after closing time. It's that sense of wonder that really got me. Walking in, it's EXACTLY like you see it in the movie. The counter is on your left, you've got the aisles of items, the refrigerators, the newsstand, everything. Dante even went behind the counter to take pictures with everybody. Though admittedly, the owner of the store looked a little perturbed by the number of fans in the store. I don't know why, I'm sure he gets fans in there all the time. But whatever. So if you are ever in Leonardo, New Jersey and you're a fan of Kevin Smith, you are lawfully bound to make a stop here. read more

Ah, the quick stop. I'm not from Leonardo but I have family that lives there so I stop by every time I come to town. Other then being probably the most famous quick stop on earth, this is like every other quick stop in New Jersey. The staff here are pretty chill considering how many tourists come here to take pictures. Parking is limited and you will sometimes be tempted to hit fans or local idiot kids who stand in the street. Has all the essentials you would expect from a quick stop and with the friendly staff and history, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Place outside looks the same, inside looked empty. Just not as much stock as the movie. The Clerk just smiled but wouldn't engage at all in conversation. Movie rental store is empty. Didn't realize the store sits 12' from the street. Had a worn out sign inside about Clerks. A bit ghetto, had a few skinny looking Jays wearing wife beaters, buying blunts in front of me. while yes...it's Leonardo's claim to fame...shopping there for a local is a pain in the butt. while they have a wide range of porn and cigarettes...their snack foods are stale, and the place smells like mildew. the parking "lot" is so small that your car barely fits in the spot, and backing out is never anything less than treacherous . the people hanging outside from the "fight club" next door don't help., nor do the kiddies that should be hanging out at the park down the street. while it's a landmark of sorts, i kind of hope they tear it down, move it across the street, and turn that lot into a proper parking area. it would make the entrance to Leonardo much much nicer. come on, everyone...take a picture while you can, and then let the place go...please! read more

i have lived down the street from quick stop my entire life. and some people have told me they didn't even think leonardo was an actual town because of the kevin smith movies. great if you need to stop for scratch offs, cigarettes, various drinks, snacks, the newspaper, or astronomically expensive necessities that you need last minute that is a pain in the butt to drive all the way to foodtown for (advil, cooking oil, sugar, etc..) local hang out for the delinquents of the neighborhood, which is extremely annoying to deal with, and actually quite uncomfortable when there are 6 of them just hanging out in the small parking lot surrounded by some supped up truck or car. also when sightseers come to stand in the middle of the street/parking lot to take mad picks of quick stop, it's really annoying. i almost ran over one of them. read more

Just came back from Jersey, and as a Kevin Smith fan, it was a pretty tremendous thing to visit the Quick Stop. The clerk working was very polite. He let me take pictures and very casually moved from behind the counter so I could take pics without him in them. I bought about $15 worth of random stuff and of course, Gatorade. I love TV and movie locations, and this one was great. Pretty dead on to how it appears on film and a fun trip. Just be a decent fan and spend a little money there! As another reviewer posted, the video store is closed but you can see the shelves and tapes through the window. Overall, exactly what I was hoping for. read more

The only corner store that matters. You can not help but be inspired by walking the aisles of the Quick Stop in Leonardo. This was the second destination my buddy and I visited when we toured Smith's stomping grounds after we went to Kevin's "Evening With-Birthday Bash" last August. What is great is that it is essentially a movie set that you can tour on your own. No stupid gaurds checking your press pass, no trams whisking you along and making you miss the details. As long as you are cool about it you are free to look around. We even shot some video inside the store. We explained to the owner why we were there and told him that we drove from Boston to see this place and other Smith-related areas. He chuckled and said "Take your time, enjoy." The Quickstop operates like a shrine of sorts to Kevin and his vision. Near the counter you can view newspaper articles dating back to Clerk's early days. There is a collection of photos and such from Kevin and company adorning the wall near the cash register. The great thing is that the old video store next door is still standing. Abandoned, but still standing. After you visit the store do what I did and watch Clerks again. read more
