There was no one in line, so I expected a quick, straightforward visit. Instead, I was met with a frustrating and unnecessarily complicated experience. The attendant, Mike, approached my car and immediately commented on my out-of-state plates. From there, he proceeded to push the most expensive car wash option--likely assuming that because I drive a luxury vehicle, I must want the top-tier package. That wasn't the case. I just wanted something simple. Mike attempted to input my information on his tablet, which he claimed wasn't working due to a battery issue. He retrieved a second tablet, which also didn't work. Trying to be helpful, I offered to pay in cash. Instead of accepting it, he insisted on collecting my email address. I declined, as I don't want to receive marketing emails, and quite frankly, I found the request inappropriate for a basic, one-time car wash. To my disbelief, Mike refused to give me a car wash unless I provided my email. That didn't sit right with me at all. Whether or not that's legal, it certainly doesn't feel ethical. When I asked to leave, Mike couldn't even open the gate--again blaming the tablet. It took a younger employee to show him how to manually open it. A few takeaways, Mike: 1. I was driving a luxury vehicle because I'm purchasing a luxury home in the area--not because I want to be upsold. 2. I remained patient throughout your multiple tech issues and offered a solution (cash). 3. Forcing personal data collection just to get a car wash is unacceptable. Even when the guys are in task mode and it's very busy Alex is so friendly and welcoming while he's got his hands full. I usually get the $40 full interior/exterior detail and if it's not a busy day it doesn't take more than 25-30 minutes. I once spilled my entire drink in my car and called nervously asking if it would be ok to come in with only a few minutes before closing. They let me come up and did what they could for the night, and we talked through the plan for me to come back within two days to finish getting the floor fully cleaned. It felt so intentional from all the guys who I talked with and the follow through on plan and pricing was intentional as well. I tell everyone about Prompt and the unbeatable value. When I have the ability to down the road I'll absolutely be getting a membership. If you're brand new to the experience it's just mildly confusing at first. Entrance is to the south west and you'll wait for someone to come talk to you before driving through the car wash. Then someone will direct you where to pull up. They don't tell you this because they're in task mode and assume you're a pro at this part: once you're parked in the lane they've directed you to, just leave your key but grab your wallet, phone, other essentials, and head on into the waiting room. Someone will come in and call out your car make/model when they're ready to take your payment, and again once they're done with your car. My friend first told me about Prompt a year ago and I'm so thankful. It has really been a godsend for my overwhelmed brain that I can steward car ownership in this way that's so accessible financially and from a fantastic team, when I'd otherwise let way too long go by without cleaning and sink further and further into guilt and overwhelm about it.
