I have known Sam and his services for a very long time, with projects he built and completed with his Dad. So it was a no-brainer to call him up and ask him to build a new patio for my Mom. The careful diligence he took in thinking what would look best, it's functionality, and high quality planning was apparent as time went on for a few visits. This led up to sketches Sam made for my Mom to look at, but instead of building a new patio, he suggested and designed a Pergola! Mom loved the idea, as well as something new, and subsequently asked him to complete the project. The work, detail, building was so impressive and great, my Mom asked Sam to also tear down and build new fencing on both sides of the patio, as well as a fencing in the back perimeter of the yard. This was ALL better than my Mom and I would have imagined! The aesthetics of the patio and yard dramatically changed for the better, and the way he crafted everything to fit in and showcase the surrounding riparian area was perfect. I have a few other projects in mind to upgrade the house and yard, and will be calling up Sam in the future to take a look, and how he can equally improve the physical nature of the house and yards. Why else would I call anyone else?!

Most locksmiths/handy-people didnt want do it because of the lock but these guys did. Phillip came thru and was hella efficient and respectful (took off his boots without having to ask). Genuinely disappointed at the overall experience with Handy Buddies. We hired them to do some touch…read moreup work on the walls of the home we just purchased. There were various nail holes and some dents here and there that we wanted to fix, as well as repainting of several of the baseboards as they were all scuffed up. Additionally, we needed them to patch and repaint the inside of all of the bedroom closets, as they were in desperate need of some TLC. We were originally quoted in the $700ish range for the full job, but the final cost when they were done came out to $960 instead. This was cited to be due to increased material cost, which would be fine if the original quote was more along the lines of X for labor + estimate for materials rather than here is the total price. They did provide receipts to justify the increase material price at least, which was somewhat appreciated. But we did not appreciate the significant underquoting. Additionally, they wound up showing up late on the day of the job citing the reasoning was due to a prior job running over. We had originally scheduled to meet them at the house at 11:30am, but they did not arrive until closer to 2pm. We didn't initially fault them for this, as we understand sometimes some jobs wind up hitting unexpected delays. But unfortunately, this was not the end of undelivered expectations from Handy Buddies. The team used spray paint to paint over the baseboards in the home, and only used a small piece of cardboard to block mist splatter. This obviously was insufficient and left a ton of white mist all over our hardwood floors. Additionally, they did not paint any of the baseboards inside the closet, claiming there was dirt. As well as doing a rather lackluster job on the inside closet walls. As we still saw some nail holes left over. And the section of the closet wall that tucks in was also poorly painted, with only 1 thin coat that still had the previous color peeking through. Additionally, many sections of that part of the wall for the closets were missed, as we still saw old handprints and scuff marks that we wound up fixing ourselves. Babek scheduled time to come back in two days to put our custom closet shelving units for all of the closets back up as they needed to wait for the paint to dry first. This was fine except: 1) Babek scheduled to come back at 2pm. Instead, he messages the morning of at 8am that he's heading over and will be there at 9am. Keep in mind that noone was living at the property at the time so our in-laws scrambled from Sacramento (2hr drive away) to get down there in time with almost no notice. Babek never asked before hand if a time change was appropriate. He simply messaged assuming someone would already be at the property and it was perfectly fine to show up 5hrs earlier. 2) Noone on Babek's team thought to take a picture of the custom closets PRIOR to dismantling them. He spent the entire time he was over trying to figure out (unsuccessfully) how to put them back together. Additionally, he stated he forgot to bring out the necessary tool to fix our floors that still had spray paint splatter and would message us the next day to schedule time to come back out to fix it. This never materialized, and instead he simply ghosted us.

He told us need to do the outlet box and it will be additional $100 (decided to raise another $10) , my husband said he will do the outlet box himself, Jaime was ok to sell us electrical plastic box just extra $1-$2. When he finishes the job he said is $170, I asked why? He said because I brought you the electrical box that's additional $10. I told him I don't need the box you can take it back (since he want to up charge so much) , he got mad and say don't ever call him in the future for any service. We never wanted him to do the outlet box since the beginning, and he got mad because we didn't want to pay him $10 for this $0.50 electrical box he brought us. What does one want in a contractor/handyman? This is what I experienced with Joel: (1) Arrived on time for the initial visit/inspection, on short notice (with his wife and two lovely children). (2) Understood what we were looking for, understood that we had NO IDEA what we really needed, and very professionally walked through the house with us, suggesting improvements with an *amazing* eye for detail. Things like replacing door hinges, changing the grout in tiles, repainting cabinets. (3) Settled on a final work list within a day, with an estimate that was less than half of what the general contractors quoted us for less than half the work. (4) Came with me to home depot, on his own time, and helped me pick out parts for the repair, explaining the process to me in the meantime. He did not charge me for this, even though we spent several hours at Home Depot. (5) Started work on time, the major job being repainting all the cabinets the house. All precautions were taken, including covering the floor and walls. (6) FINISHED WORK ON TIME. On exactly the day he had quoted, he handed the keys back to me and we did the final walkthrough. It came out way, way better than I had expected. (7) BILLED EXACTLY WHAT HE QUOTED. It shouldn't be that hard to do this, but it's rare! I am so happy with Joel's work, and could not write a more glowing review. He's definitely won all my future business.

In replacing a door he significantly damaged the frame…read more Amidst a variety of other unprofessionalism that I have added details to below, I requested that the damage be repaired. Within a few hours, he billed me for more than the original estimate and refused to arrange for a time to repair the damage, despite my reasonable offer to reimburse him for out of pocket immediately. He proceeds to invoice me for the original amount and adds a 10% late fee for every month. This finally comes to a head when he sues me in Small Claims Court. Frankly, given Ben's unprofessionalism, I was grateful for the judge to help me manage this issue. So, unless you like settling up bills in small claims court, I would not engage with him. Below are more details: Late January, I connected with ManVan Handyman via Yelp to install rain protection on my backdoor. Benjamin came to my home and gave an estimate of 4 hours + materials. We scheduled the work for the following week. Ahead of the workday, I asked Ben if I needed to prepare anything. He said nothing. Ben arrives late and parks his truck with a dog in it on the sidewalk in front of my house. I am working in my office in the front of the house. I introduce myself and make it clear that I am available should he need anything. Ben makes unprofessional statements about my appearance. After inspecting the area, Ben leaves my apartment, unlocking the front door without my permission, and then goes to purchase supplies. He returns by just walking in the now unlocked front door, without warning. His car is again parked illegally on the sidewalk with a dog in it. Dog starts barking. Ben commences work. He does not lay down a tarp or do any preparation of the location. He proceeds to use a saw and damage the door frame. There is a crack in the trim surrounding the door on the front and back frame and a 1.5 inch gap between the molding and the floor. There is a lot of smudging and dirt and dust everywhere. See photos below. Ben admits that he made a mistake and mismeasured the door and there is additional work needed. Ben has also invited a colleague into the house without my permission. Ben has also brought in his lunch and has created a mess on my kitchen table. His dog is barking from the car in the front of the house. A neighbor rings my doorbell and informs me they will call Animal Welfare if something is not done about the dog barking from the illegally parked car out front. When I tell Ben this, he replies, "you know, that's just the way it's going to be." I tell him he needs to address the issue immediately. He says he will and instructs his colleague to finish. I ask Ben when and how he will complete the job, as there is much damage to the molding surrounding the door. Ben says he can have someone finish the job that week and we should identify a time via text message. Ben leaves to deal with his dog. I have to specify all of the cleanup items for the colleague. Dust is still everywhere. The next day I receive an invoice from ManVan Handyman for $1200 to cover the first day of the work and materials. Note, this work that resulted in damage to my door frame was already above the original estimate. I reply saying the I will gladly reimburse for any out of pocket expenses that they send me receipts for. However, I note, I will not pay for any labor until the project is completed. The person on the text (I believe it is the colleague who came to clean up) replies by saying this is not their policy and they will not send someone to complete the job until the original invoice is paid. I request a phone call, and on that conversation I reiterate my offer to: Reimburse for any out-of-pocket expenses if they can send me copies of receipts To schedule a time for the team to complete the job I note that this job needs to be completed with professionalism as there were multiple issues with the service provided by Ben initially The person on the phone says they will talk to the team. I follow-up a few days later, they say they will not schedule a time to repair the door and that I must pay the entire invoice. They continue to send me invoices for work, and are include a $120 / month late fee. This late fee is far beyond a reasonable amount and represents a 100% annual interest rate on the invoice. In the meantime, I have contacted an alternative contractor to repair the work on the door. Their estimate is $800 for materials and 8 hours of labor at $127.5 / hour. So $1820 to repair the damage they caused.

He dented my ceiling and walls and did a shoddy job at covering it up/he did not let me know. As for the bathroom faucet, he only decided to install the faucet and not the drain and left metal shavings literally everywhere (again also didn't let me know he only performed a portion of the job). On a separate note, I wfh and I stepped ups stairs for a couple minutes. When I came down he was sitting at my dining table where I work, with his mask off eating lunch and using my mug as a prop for his phone while he was laughing at some news video. Overall just really bad etiquette. If you hire him, I'd monitor him closely, make sure he cleans up after himself and set ground rules beforehand.

When we contacted Mazariegos Builder, we needed our sliding glass tub door fixed, our linoleum and trim by the tub replaced, and new caulking in the tub. Yoel was amazing! He is so knowledgeable and skilled at his job. Our sliding glass tub door wouldn't stay closed, and he fixed it so that it stays closed when someone is in the shower. His caulking work is flawless, and the linoleum he put down looks perfect as well. In addition to his amazing work, he was very kind! He even offered to get me lunch when he went to get his own! We are so grateful for his help, and will use him again the next time we need a repairman!
