I'm updating my previous rating from 2 to 3 stars…read more I was really impressed that the owner, Ryan, contacted me via email/yelp to amend the situation I addressed in my previous review. He offered a month of training gratis, and I took him up on the offer. As for the experience, Force seems to be a great place to get a quick workout in. The staff are friendly, and knowledgeable. The actual 'work' done in a session ranges from 15-40 minutes. Warm up includes a bit of foam rolling, and some dynamic stretching exercises. The actual workout involves circuit-type functional training. I like that they incorporate explosive plyometric movements for people who are more fit, and yet find modifications for people who are just getting into fitness. Advantages: 1) No need to think. These people do the programming, you only need to show up 2) Matt (the trainer I had) was great about checking form and providing modifications to the suggested exercises. 3) I like the community. It is nice to see familiar faces at each workout... definitely helps in keeping me motivated. 4) Facility is clean, nice shower/changing rooms. 5) I like the fact that you choose particular days and times for classes in advance; it really helps keep you on track and accountable. Disadvantages: 1) I personally found the workouts to be too boring and easy (I don't think I ever woke up with a sore muscle after a workout). I come from a personal training background, and I'm used to spending more time at the gym. This program is likely ideal for a person of average fitness. Often after a workout at Force I head to the campus gym to get more cardio training and lifting in. 2) I find the location of this place to be less-than-ideal. This is just me. 3) Certain days of the week (namely days that involve isometric type exercises) are incredibly boring. (My friends have had similar complaints) 4) Pricing: this place is a bit expensive. Suggestions: 1) Perhaps have certain boot camp sessions cater to beginner or advanced levels of fitness. As it stands, there are too many people in a class with too many different issues to target. It is kind of a mess. 2) If you are already an athlete or experienced in training, I suggest you forgo the boot camp sessions, and try out personal training (this may be more rigorous and tailored) Summary: After this bootcamp, I will not be returning to Force (I may not even finish the boot camp that was offered). It is located on the outskirt of town, far from where I work/live, and the workouts aren't really working out for me. I know a lot of other people who love this place (secretaries, neighbors, friends, etc.) but it just isn't my thing.

This place is so incredibly special, I can't put it into words. Simply stated: whoever you are,…read morewhatever your goals, whatever your experience, Force is THE gym in Bloomington. The coaching is literally world-class, and you WILL get the results you're searching for (ask yourself, are you reaching them with what you're doing now?)! Personally, I lost 90lbs and gained a fabulous family/community along with an amazing education in fitness, nutrition and myself. This gym and it's various programs really are for all levels. The bootcamp is great and there is no one to blame if you don't get a great workout in but yourself. People in a more advanced athletic state are expected to do more advanced movements with heavier weights at faster speeds. Key Words: High performance athlete training, student (youth) athlete training, weight loss, high intensity interval training, personal training, group training, nutrition, Olympic Weightlifting, strength and conditioning, safety, Functional Movement Screen (FMS), mobility, MovNat, CrossFit, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Precision Nutrition, Whole 9/30, paleo/primal, boot camp, mindfulness, play/sport, constant improvement, support, acceptance, open space. State of the art gym (and clean!) with the best group of coaches, trainers and administrators in the business. I could go on and on. I've been doing this fitness/weight loss thing a long, long time and this gym is the height of what you can get. I've had to move out of state, and there's nothing I mourn more than the loss of Force. Give it a chance.

Since I was moving to IN for school, I was looking for a new box to go to. There are two main CF…read moreboxes in Bloomington: Hoosier CF & CF Bloomington. Neither of the locations were close to where I was living, so I looked at pricing + schedule to help narrow down my decision. I ended up trying CF Bloomington first because I liked that they have a 5am class & yoga built into the programming AND most importantly, it's cheaper ($100/unlimited for students). I like CFB so much that I haven't dropped in Hoosier CF yet. Some reasons why I enjoy CFB: *I'm super impressed that the 6am class here is HUGE. In LA, 6am class was the leanest class (maybe 4 people tops). Here, 10+ every time. But, if you're a CrossFitter that wants more personal attention - the coaches always do the best they can BUT just by the nature of having lots of people - it's tough! And, sometimes we have to split up into heats. *EQUIPMENT ON EQUIPMENT ON EQUIPMENT. This is again probably an LA thing but I've never seen such a massive box before. Also, SO many rowers + skiergs + racks + KBs + barbells + clips haha *The community here reminds me of my old box - in a good way. Really friendly, no one is hyper competitive. There are "extracurriculars" planned like women's defense workshops, donation drives, Rookie Rumble, etc. *Coaching - not that my previous coaches weren't great but CFB coaches - at least the ones I've been exposed to so far - are even more technical. The coaches have a very thorough understanding of how to do things right + how to build to get there. For instance, they don't want you to do kipping PUs if you don't have strict PUs yet. *Active Recovery - on the yoga note, Thursdays are programmed to be 100% active recovery/skill work. You can also use this time to make up any WODs you missed. I like this because it encourages a balance and allows for a little more flexibility. Tip: if you use google maps, it doesn't really lead you to the right place. Park here (b-line parking lot I believe: 39.153159, -86.535882) & walk towards the b-line to get to CFB.

I had never heard of CrossFit before I joined Hoosier CrossFit, and I cannot have asked for a better gym to start doing CrossFit. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and will go above and beyond to make sure you understand what you're doing and that you're having a great experience. They organize a ton of events and have really built a community around the gym. The workouts are always fun and NEVER repetitive. The variety of workouts is the selling point for me. You will never be bored. I never realized how spoiled I was at Hoosier CrossFit until I moved to NYC for a summer job and joined a CrossFit gym there that was 3 times the price and double the number of students per class, which meant I got minimal personal attention. I highly recommend Hoosier CrossFit for anyone who's looking for a great gym! Whether you're a seasoned CrossFitter or have never heard of it before, I guarantee Hoosier CrossFit will have a plan that will work for you.

For some reason I've only ever seen one man here - an instructor. I would think men would like dance fitness too (who doesn't like to dance??), but I guess it comes off as a woman's place to work out. The music is very pop heavy, so I don't like it, but it is nice to have a good steady beat to work out to. Some of the moves are very hard and some are very fun. I do typically leave sweaty and feeling glad I went, but I never feel pushed as far as I can be pushed. I don't really have a favorite instructor or class and I just kind of felt meh about it after a while. In some ways I appreciate the no mirrors concept (part of their fun approach), but in other ways I'd really like to see what I'm doing so I can improve my form. All in all, I appreciate the financial accessibility of this gym (crazy cheap!!) and that it focuses on dance, but I'd rather save up and find a gym that I crave going to, instead of feeling like you get what you pay for in this case. All of the instructors are nice and caring and positive by the way! But... meh.
