The doctor on call at my surgeon's office said that I needed to go to the ER. I avoid the HSV hospital zoo at all costs so I went to Crestwood. I know the staff is jaded. I know they've seen the absolute worst of the worst. They are underpayed, understaffed and just plain tired. But that doesn't take away the responsibility for them to show empathy and respect to all patients. After I was triaged by two nurses who barely looked at me, I sat in the empty waiting room for over an hour before being seen. (The nurse told me that it had been an unusually quiet evening so that wasn't an excuse). I was finally wheeled back to the exam room. On our way down the hall, the nurse said "you should have called your doctor". My husband told her that we did and he sent us here. Then she said "well you should have gone and sat in his office until you were seen". She completely discounted my reason for coming to the ER. The attending NP examined me and said the that the procedure that I needed was too dangerous to do in the ER. He sent me home with medication and told me to see my surgeon Monday morning. (My surgeon could not believe that I was sent home). I ended up having emergency surgery Tuesday morning. By then I had additional complications from having waited so long. I do wonder if that would have happened had the NP put more effort into trying to help me - not just pass me back. Crestwood has been our hospital of choice since we moved here. Since the CEO Pam Hudson left, the hospital has gone downhill. This slide has been gaining momentum and now, what used to be the premiere choice, will finally crash into the big circus in town, HSV hospital. My most recent encounter with Crestwood was not stellar. Sadly, I doubt my next will be any better.

I absolutely love and feel so blessed to have Dr. Mary Toland as my primary care physician. It was…read moresad to see a former friend leave Huntsville, but it took that move (because her family were patients of Dr. Toland) to open up some wiggle room in her practice to allow my husband and me a spot, under her care at, at the time, Baily Cove Family Physicians. I think I've been going there around 13 years, probably more. The Huntsville Hospital name change really did not impact my experience in any way. No problems getting appointments or changing appointments and her staff are *never* rude or anything but kind - in every dealing/appointment that I've had with them. Dr. Toland is the most compassionate, caring individual you will find. She really listens to you, she understands women's issues and concerns and "cuts you some slack"and is never judgmental. She understands if life gets in the way and precludes some of the better health practices that we all strive to adhere to and is so reasonable and kind. As far as appointments go, she runs on time probably 99% of the time. She goes over your bloodwork in painstaking detail and answers and explains thoroughly any questions you may have. Refills are easy to obtain and they always have the lab paperwork where it is supposed to be, in advance of any appointments. I'm not sick much, but when I am, she will try to work me in and the nursing staff are all kind and compassionate, too. I almost hate to "go on and on" about Dr. Toland, because I do not believe she is accepting new patients, don't quote me, I could be wrong. There are other doctors on the staff at HHPC, I've never seen anyone other than Dr. Toland, so I cannot comment on their care. I'm sure they are as good as she is, based on the fact that there is no turnover and everyone there seems happy. Thank you, Dr. Toland! You make physicals and doctor's appointments a pleasure!

I was told it was meningitis after I exited the office and was in the lobby headed outside when my phone rang. The lady in the call told me I was given a meningitis shot and to go to my pharmacy for the second Hepatitis B shot. Let's say I wasn't happy. I went to Walgreens and explained to the pharmacist my predicament. She asked me to find out what brand of hepatitis B vaccine I was given last month. I logged into my patient portal and the brand name of the shot used wasn't listed. After discussion the pharmacist agreed to give me my second shot. I even volunteered to pay cash. When the info was input into the computer system, the shot was denied because Walgreens is a retail establishment. I couldn't get the shot at my doctor's office nor at a drug store. I asked the pharmacist for help and she said that the HH Urgent Care can give me the Hep B shot. Off I go to Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care to explain to several employees why I was there. After checking in and telling my story to anyone willing to listen, I sat and waited while the ladies at HH Urgent Care dotted the i's and crossed the t's. I was called back and was given my second Hep B shot. Hallelujah HH Urgent Care saved the day. I made my appointment for my third and final shot. I "saved a spot" online, arrived 15 minutes early as instructed, but waited over 2 1/2 hours to be seen. At least 2 walk-in patients were seen before me, which I don't think is right. My vitals were taken by the nurse, then I was placed in a very cold room, where I waited another 30 minutes. When the nurse practitioner came in, she asked me some questions about why I was there (uncontrolled coughing), prescribed 2 medications (an inhaler and a steroid), and sent me on my way. She did not listen to my chest, look at my throat, or even come near me. Not the quality of care I'd expect from a HH facility.
