My doctor had sent me to get some blood drawn at Quest Diagnostics. I scheduled an appointment on…read moretheir website for 8:20 am, in East Hartford. It was very easy to get to. Once I arrived at the building, I took the stairs to the second floor. The door was clearly marked that it was Quest Diagnostics. Inside I found a very clean waiting area, with plenty of chairs, and a check in kiosk. Here you can scan your drivers license and insurance card. Then, after a short wait a phlebotomist called me to come into the phlebotomy room to get started. The room was small, with green walls and some statistical information printed on the walls. The young, female phlebotomist entered my information into the computer, and asked me if I had been fasting on this morning. I told her I had. She didn't need my insurance card, since I had already entered it into the kiosk. As much as I don't love needles, and situations like this where there's no way that they can be avoided, my best strategy is to not look. I placed my arm on the armrest, while she tied the blue elastic around my arm. I felt a poke, after a minute I turned around, to find that nothing was done. All of the vials were empty. "I couldn't find a vain" she told me. Ok, I'm no expert, but I'm not sure what she meant, when she poked me right in the center of one. This is what really upset me. She moved the elastic to my wrist. I told her she could try my other arm. "We're going to try right here" she told me, as she pointed to my hand. Yes, she drew four vials of blood from the dorsal side of my hand. She didn't even give me a proper band aid. This was five days ago, and my hand is still turning various shades of bruise. I also felt very light headed and very hot. I asked for some water, she told me, "you can find it on your way out". I didn't like that she didn't go to my other arm, before she went to my hand. I also have a bruise on the area where the job wasn't successful. Thank you for reading this very long review. I will end with these final words. Every job is not for everyone.

I witnessed today 5/16/25 at Quest 100 Retreat Ave, Hartford CT such callous and unprofessional…read morebehavior by the lab technician between 1025am-12pm. She berated 2 customers on different occasions. Both customers were Spanish speaking, one elderly and both had trouble using the kiosk. The way this technician raised her voice multiple times, spoke in a harsh and disrespectful tone while using condescending language was appalling. The elderly left and the other sat there humiliated. At one point we all looked at each other in disbelief to how this technician behaved. This unprofessional behavior was the lowest displays I have seen in healthcare lately; I have never had any issues at any Quest before.

The one on the third floor is for bloodwork…read more(what I'm reviewing), and the one on the first floor is for drug testing (there's a separate review page). I needed to come here for a metabolic screening test for health insurance through my employer. I chose the earliest appointment time possible at 7:15 AM, thinking the traffic was likely to be lower than at other points I'm the day. Even though I arrived at 7:20, I ended up starting my test at 8:10. I found this wait time unacceptable and would have left if I didn't have a looming deadline to complete the test. The issue this Friday morning was that there was only one employee working - juggling everything from the front desk to the actual blood work. The result of that was a backup of six people in the waiting room, who were all late for work. I saw two people leave in frustration because they couldn't wait any longer. I was especially upset that the list was called based on arrival time, as I was the only one with an appointment and should have been seen first instead of having to wait for two others to go. Why bother allowing customers to schedule appointments if walk-ins are treated exactly the same? I'm giving two stars for the long wait time even with an appointment, though it's worth saying that I didn't have any complaints with the employee who did my test. My tip is to get here before it opens and be the first one in, otherwise no telling how long a wait time that you'll have.
