I reserved a small vehicle. To my surprise, I was given a larger vehicle. Ford Edge. It was perfectly sized for me, super clean, full and fantastic on gas, and easy to manage. Made a reservation for a SUV out of the Hampton West Mercury boulevard location but was called that…read moremorning to notify me that they no longer had any vehicles, So I had a vehicle reserved at the Newport News airport location. Was told over the phone that they had the same type of vehicle and I could go and pick it up. Upon arrival, two reps were at the desk. One with a custom the other playing with her personal phone. No acknowledgement no greeting no we'll be right with you, but eventually a hand motion for me to come up. No introduction and no name tag, so I don't know her name. I gave her my name My phone number she looked up the information and told me that there were no SUVs available but for the same price she could put me into an economy car. When I told her that the economy car should be less than an SUV she responded with we have no cars now I won't be renting you anything today. I asked to speak to a manager She informed me that I could leave or be escorted out by security. There's no way that you would feel that comfortable disrespecting paying customers over nonsense if it was not something that she was accustomed to getting away with. Left several messages for a manager or supervisor to give me a call and no response. Shame on management for allowing this company that was built on superior customer service to be fall so low. No accountability at all. I will pay more someplace else for future rental needs to receive customer service that appreciates their customers.

I first off questioned the man while later to find out was the supposed "manager" if my insurance set it up for the correct 10 day period , he assured me he'd confirm it once he got in the system ( never confirmed with me ) , I was never told about what time to bring it back. I wasn't informed on the type of gas the car takes , didn't tell me they were closed on Sunday ( my drop off day ) nor that they didn't have a drop box , so now here I am not knowing how to drop off the vehicle since all Hertz in the area are closed Sunday , to add to the minor inconvenience I was being told I was charged for a whole 10 days of insurance when i wasnt under the impression of that happening. after a yelling match and being hung up on by said 'manager' I made it clear I wasn't paying for the whole 10 days but would for the weekend I would be out of town. Initially my experience was horrible, full of frustration and having to deal with completely unprofessional and incompetent representatives. The personnel in the parking kiosk were pleasant enough but when no cars were available for my reservations they were uncaring of the situation. The on site managers mirrored this attitude which only made things worse, causing long aggravating delays. I called, notified and filed complaints with no resolution. You see a refund for a rental was not satisfactory because the vehicle was rented to get safely to meetings on time. Thus far, I'd been delayed by "no rental" availability, disgusting, dirty, smelling of cigarrette automobiles that were over the company policy required miles, lack of empathy from employees, non-existent management, or poorly trained and inexperienced on site leadership. Anyway, the last few months I noticed a change in personnel that has resulted in vast improvements in customer service, efficient rental pick up/drop off, variety of vehicle types, friendly attendants, informed and professional leadership and a dependable CLEAN vehicles with low miles (Emerald Club Policies). My experience with this particular National Rental site has gone from terrible to fantastic. I'd like to credit one person in particular, his first name is Cameron and he alone has made a significant and positive change. In my opinion, his commitment to improving this site and bringing value to that particular National Rent A Car team, is worthy of recognition and praise from their corporate office. In his steps, I've noticed that other personnel have followed and now I see them striving for excellence, on par with the National Car Rental reputation. I strongly recommend becoming an Emerald Club Member and this National Car Rental for your needs.

When I asked "who" cancelled my reservation, the nasty girl (definitely not a lady) said she "didn't know, it's just cancelled". I confirmed with National Customer service, as well as my travel company that the reservation had not been cancelled. After my second conversation with Customer Service, I learned that my formal reservation wasn't cancelled until about 4 hours after my encounter with the staff. The cancellation happened at the local level. Was told that District Manager would be calling me and finding me a car would be priority.... That has not happened. I'm an Executive Elite client with National but definitely going to look at other rental car agencies if this type of customer service is allowed. My coworker communicated that he had same experience when he flew into to Newport News. This morning I received a generic response to my google review; however, it takes you back to the same number I called for resolution snd a chat page!!! So still no call from a human or resolution of issue... Also- online it's showing car availability!

It's a used car lot and they rent the cars they're selling so they're not in perfect condition but it's VERY affordable. I rented a small car and they told me they'd call me when a full size came back and I could swap it out free of charge. The lady working inside is very nice. They require a drivers license, full coverage insurance (they will call your policy holder to verify), & a $100 deposit. They accepted my debit card so don't worry if you don't have a credit card. They refund your deposit the same way you give it to them. If I remember correctly they also accept cash. The cars aren't extremely fancy but they get you from point a to point b which is all I needed. I would definitely recommend. *also to add, I'd call before going because their hours ref very promising. At least not when I went a few months ago. It was hit and miss. Lol nonetheless once you get a hold of someone they're very helpful. I'll def be using them whenever I come into town. It makes too much sense not to. *one more note, it's not the fanciest or jazziest of places but don't be scared by the looks lol they're friendly.
