This is a small but must see museum! There's a scale model of all of NYC including mini planes taking off. There's a glass floor so you can see under your feet, it's really quite stunning. But there's also a gorgeous Tiffany lamp collection not to be missed. Upstairs is retro memorabilia from the 1965 World's Fair, that's super fun. And on top of all that they had the best hot chocolate! It was made with rich chocolate and steamed milk. I got it to go and drank it under the unisphere. read more

I am writing this as a 23 year old, so be mindful of this fact. The museum is very spacious, but does not have that much materials inside of it. There is no theme to the museum, so I was not sure what I was getting myself into. The only major plus of the museum was the panorama. That was very cool, but not worth driving an hour in to Queens for. If there was more cool exhibits like this one, my visit would have been worth my time. read more

Perhaps the time I went influences my experience, but it was not the best experience. The museum was quite sparse, with scattered exhibits, renovation in progress, and limited signage. Even getting to the museum no walk in the park ... well, actually, it IS a walk through a beautiful park with an exquisite fountain that sprays mist on passersby, so I mean that figuratively. Constantly, I had to ask security guards and park rangers how to get to it. What exhibits did exist were a bit fascinating--for example, an aerial view replica of New York and a room full of lamps. Other than maybe 1-2 other places, the museum did not have much to offer. They apparently moved the Ames Room exhibition I was looking forward to experiencing. And as always, you need to judge a place by its restrooms. They were sub-par. The mens' room's paper towel dispenser did not work and there were no air dryers, so I just shook my hands in the air and wiped damp ones on my pants. Maybe once the renovation completes, it will be better. At least, it is free for students with valid ID. read more

The Queens Museum is not one of New York's famous museums and yet it remains a popular destination located in the oft-frequented Flushing Meadows Park. There are two principle reasons to visit this museum. One is that it contains the amazing panorama of New York City built for the 1964 World's Fair. This is quite an accomplishment as this panoramic view of New York City consists of over 800,000 buildings. You have to see it to believe it! Also the Queens Museum has an incredible collection of Luis Tiffany lamps. These colorful stained glass lamps and chandeliers were collected by the Viennese-born Dr. and Mrs. Egon Neustadt. There's usually a special exhibition also to be seen. After visiting the museum, you can enjoy walking around Flushing Meadows Park. read more

A friend took us here once to take a look at the Panorama, and since then I've been back again to show some other friends the same. It's truly amazing! The other exhibitions in the museum aren't so plentiful, but there was one on Tiffany lanterns that was pretty cool. I quite enjoyed that one too. The museum is pay-what-you-want which is nice! read more

This is one of the best museums in New York City. It is certainly the best museum for your dollar. The Panorama is, of course, mind-meltingly awesome. Even when the lights aren't working correctly. If anything, the Panorama serves as a good illustration of how little of New York City most residents actually avail themselves of. I don't find that the museum is particularly out of the way. Moreover, there's plenty of interest in Flushing and Corona. Louis Armstrong's house. Lewis Lattimer's house. Chinese and Korean food in Flushing. Salvadorean food in Corona. A nice, if small, botanical garden at the edge of the park. But even if you just go to QMA, it's a destination in itself. The Panorama can easily take 30 minutes. The World's Fair exhibition is at least another quarter hour. And the exhibits, if hit and miss, are forward-thinking and often exemplary of the more vibrant directions in contemporary art. read more

I could of sworn I've reviewed Queens Museum in the past. Queens Museum is a very underrated museum. Over the years, the museum has gotten much better. It's still undergoing major exterior and interior renovations. The most well known exhibit here would have to be the panorama exhibit of NYC. It's been here for years and it seems to never get old. There are so many details and the mini airplanes that are connected to the ziplines is a nice touch. I'm really looking forward to visiting this museum again when the renovations are fully complete. Parking is ample and its located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. A beautiful museum located right in front of the Unisphere. It's a great destination for all visitors. read more

In any other city the Queens Museum of Art would receive top billing at the local tourist office. The museum regularly hosts high caliber exhibitions including the current one on the urban planner Robert Moses. Past exhibits included one on new photography coming out of Mexico City. Also, if you are a New York resident you should definitely visit the model of the City of New York. The display features miniature models featuring the buildings of New York color-coded by use--residential, commercial etc. Moreover, every couple of minutes or so, the entire place gets dark to mimic the transition from day to night and the entire place glitters from all of the tiny lights embedded in the models. Hopefully, with the announcement that the museum building itself will almost double in size, more people will visit--especially New Yorkers who have a very Manhattan-centric view. read more

I brought 10 years old son and 7 years old son. Both enjoyed this place very much. This museum has some interesting exhibitions so I think anybody can enjoy, but it's just small one, you might finish looking at all in an hour. If you are bringing kids, Maybe it's good idea to bring lunch and some outside toys to enjoy fun time at the park next to the museum if the weather is nice. You can see the big sphere in the park, too. Photo shoot in front of it, too. It's fun. read more

My wife and I went here recently to see the panorama of NYC and any art worth seeing. We left utterly demoralized and measurably depressed, like we'd endured an assault on our personhood (which may be the intent). It isn't just that the art is bad--though it is astonishingly bad--it is that ALL of it attacks a particular group of people. The word "white." Or "whiteness" or any variant thereof is everywhere. The "construction of whiteness" or "how has whiteness harmed you?" How on earth is this okay? No wonder no one was at the museum. It wasn't just the blatant hateful ideological propaganda, the art itself was devoid of visual or aesthetic interest. This is like the end stage of art, devolving into circular cliches that serve the interest of power and dull the mind into submission, the polar opposite of the proper aesthetic experience. An exhibition of photographs was indistinguishable from a poster at IKEA. A wall of language was rambling nonsense, "English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish folded themselves into the category of white." What? I'm a native New Yorker who has been to this museum many times. I will never ever return, even to see the magnificent NYC panorama (inspired by Robert Moses--amazing it's still there. I'm sure someone will destroy it soon.) read more

This is a great museum. Their ArtAccess program is an exceptional way to spend your early Sunday afternoon. I learn a lot of painting techniques here, and it can sometimes be educational. Which is awesome upgrade after the renovation. The space is very open and welcoming. Loved the exhibits on view especially david Schumann shattered/shatter house/chapel. The staff were very friendly and welcomed discussions on the exhibits. The open space and large windows was such a treat to bring in all the natural light. The place is definitely a bit inconvenient to get to if you dont have a car but the walk lets you explore corona park. read more

Situated in Flushing Meadows Corona Park you'll find the newly renovated Queens museum. Wonderful spot in the park for a great museum that mostly dedicates its showings of the NY World's Fair. They still have a large NYC panorama diorama that was from the Worlds Fair and if you look at the ceiling you'll find bars that run around it that use to be a ride for the exhibit at the worlds fair. Other exhibits are contemporary art that runs through show exhibitions. Great spot for Queens to have a great showing of art, culture, and some history of the worlds fair. read more

It's free and has insane, trippy, one-of-a-kind art installations. Oh, and a room devoted to Tiffany lamps. What's not to love?

The Queens Museum centerpiece is the Panorama of the City of New York. Anyone with some history in the city will find this enormous scale model of the five boroughs sparks recollections and no small amount of awe. The Tiffany lamp display is worth a gander at too. The fine art is another matter. It's bad in all the ways contemporary art can be bad. The curation seems to have taken on a mandate of diversity for it's sake alone and social justice. Woke junk to be kind. If anyone from the Queens museum bothers to read this, there are artists of considerable ability in your borough. What is installed, appears on the walls during my visit is the sort of work that steals the oxygen from those whose work molders. You can do better. You must do better. The bar is far too low. read more

I didn't really get to see much of the museum, but I definitely want to go back. Came here earlier tonight for the Queens International. I would have stayed longer if it weren't so cold out and the trains weren't so completely screwed up. I've always wanted to come because I'm obsessed with New York World Fair history... so I was super excited to see some of the leftovers, even though it was dark and freezing out... The unisphere and the observatory towers, so cool!!! Of the actual museum, I couldn't see much. It was so crowded for the exhibition... I mostly just hung out on the second floor and saw some of the World Fair exhibit and the AMAZING panorama... Dude. I love it. Also - small but lovely gift store. read more

The Queens Museum of Art is a small museum located right by the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park. It's a really outdated museum that looks like it hasn't been cared for since the 80s. Luckily though they do have some good exhibits (like their collection of Tiffany glass) and the $5 admission is suggested. The gift shop is small with few options but they actually have some original memorabilia from the 1964 World's Fair for sale (though they do charge a pretty penny for the items). The main reason for coming here however is the NYC panorama which is an exact scale replica of the entire city of NY (all 5 boroughs). Here are some mind boggling facts: -The model is 9,335 sq feet -It was originally constructed for the 1964 World's Fair and was completely updated in 1992 -The scale is 1:1200 (1inch = 100ft) -The model took 100 people 3 years to construct and contains over 895,000 buildings This model is one of the most amazing things you can see in NY and for next to nothing it's one of the biggest bargains in the city. read more

This small museum located in Flushing Meadow Corona Park is right next to the Unisphere. The two main attractions for me are the Tiffany collection and Panorama. The Panorama is a scale model of New York City which has all five borough, even small airplanes flying into the airports. You can walk all around it an try to find your house or other famous landmarks. Louis Comfort Tiffany had his studio in Corona, Queens. There are examples of his beautifully colored glass and the different ways he manipulated it to create depth and texture. They also have changing exhibits and weekend events in the auditorium. There is a small parking lot right in front or take the 7 train to Willets Point and walk towards the Unisphere. read more

I love this museum. It's a bit farther away than you may be used to with Manhattan museums, but it is so worth the trek. Combine it with a day trip of getting lunch in Flushing and exploring the Flushing Meadows Corona Park for World Fair left-over structures and you'll have a day cut out for you. I saw a couple of modern art exhibits here - including "The Shatterer" by Peter Schumann, which was wonderful with interactive sculptures and books to flip through. Definitely one of my favorite modern art exhibits in a while. There was also a beautiful exhibit of Tiffany lamps and paraphernalia from the World Fairs that were held in the park. The gigantic panorama of New York City is the real highlight of the visit, so save it for last. I tailed this very informative guide who pointed out some great things on the panorama - including the fact that all the parks in Queens/Long Island are all connected so you could technically spend a day biking along all of them (made a note for my next day trip!) read more

So earlier I came here since I've never been and I had a few hours until my yelp elite event. The park in the back is absolutely beautiful! Anyways a worker was being so rude to some moms, thankfully for her she didn't have an attitude with me but anyways she was kind of arguing with some moms even though it was her fault for not showing everyone how to properly line up and in which direct. General fee for adults is $8per person. Since I'm a student me and my bf both got it for $4(perfect). I expected to spend more than an hour here but it took me 30mins to get through everything. The only cool thing on the first floor is the creepy movie room and the panorama. On the second floor it gets better with interesting work of art. I'd say this is a good place for young kids or elementary schoolers to go. read more

A nice little -- and I mean Little, by New York standards -- museum. Not particularly convenient by public transportation, though. And did I mention little? We enjoyed the exhibit on Louis Tiffany and his lampshades. (Who knew that he made the stuff in Queens?) The celebrated panorama is rather sad, though. Sure, half a century ago, it must have been "wowza." But it's aging again, despite the refurbishment. And besides, it's just not very impressive. The renovated space is spacious and nice. Worth a trip, so long as you combine it with some Chinese in Flushing. And if you're in a car, sure. I may not be back anytime soon, but I'm glad that I made the trip. read more

Place is well worth the price of admission for the scale map of the five boros. Even if that's the only thing you see, it's well worth it. So much time you can spend in this place. My only gripe is that they've given the Yankee Stadium a lot of detail, and CitiField is just a black hole! Guys, this is Queens. Represent well. Thanks. read more

Call me biased, but I don't care. As a Queens native, the QMA is my pride and joy. You may have some bigshot museums like the Met (of course, I adore it, too), the Whitney, the MoMA, and the Guggenheim, but it's the smaller museums both within and outside the city that really get to the heart of the respective borough, and the QMA delivers it and then some. As a history freak, this museum is a direct offshoot of the World's Fair of 1964-1965, so their significance is quite symbolic. As a Flushing resident, it's close by, and I'm ashamed to say that I never got to visit this place until THIS SUMMER. That's right, this summer. I was so impressed with not just the panorama, but also the temporary exhibit on "The Curse of Bigness," which was one of the most interesting exhibits I had encountered, due to its more conceptual (but still understandable) roots. This is a museum that knows how to let loose with their Passport Series, as well. BYOB and everything. It's a zoo, and I love it. This is exactly the kind of museum where snooty, rich folks would drop dead. Similar to how President Andrew Jackson invited the "common-folk" to the White House for his 1829 Inauguration to the upper crusts' horror, the QMA ties itself to the everyday folks of Queens (but perhaps with a little more tact than Jackson). A museum of the people by the people for the people. read more

Despite having lived in Queens for the last decade, I have never been to the Queens Museum. I was surprised by how large and beautiful the building and exhibits were. Ample space, clean, and conveniently situated if you wanted a walk in the park. I also love that it has parking, which was great since we were driving around out of town guests. The panorama is in great condition - a little out of date, but still accurate enough to spot your old apartment. I was also delighted to see the JFK airplane models landing in and taking off! read more

When you first step in, you get a feeling that this is just a large empty room. As you explore you realize that there are numerous exhibits that hug the walls in different nooks and crannies that don't have closed room. You get a sense of unity despite contrasting topics. The center piece of course is the giant panorama of NYC that fills a room that's half a football field large. At the low prices of $0 for students, this is a gem worth visiting. read more

You go to the Queens museum for one reason and one only and that is to see the New York City diorama. Of course the exhibit is a holdout from the 1964-65 Worlds Fair but the exhibit is constantly updated. The diorama is a great place to explore your past and present. I love looking at my old neighborhoods, where I went to school and where I live now. Because of the layout and geographical situations some areas are easier to spot than others but all are there. Occasionally there is a good exhibit at the Queens Museum but unfortunately managerial incompetence destroys any hope of these exhibits being displayed or curated properly. read more

This has been one of the worst museums experiences. There were very few exhibits open. The gift shop was closed. One of the two exhibits that were open, we wandered in and were asked to leave because it wasn't supposed to be open. The woman in the exhibit said we couldn't come in but then said we could to later change her mind. My girlfriend and I will never get those 45 minutes of our life back. It's a shame because the building is beautiful. read more

I was extremely excited to visit the Queens Museum their world famous NYC panorama has been on my to do list for some time. It was extremely impressive , they have included models from "Never built New York" which added a nice touch. It has a tremendous space dedicated to it with both high and low vantage points as well as a glass floor throughout a good portion of the exhibit. I felt a little interpretive text would be helpful in providing context for the exhibit or maybe during times of the day have a staff person speak on it. Overall the museum is nicely designed, all the staff I interacted with were helpful read more

Yet another New York gem I knew nothing about! This museum is open and airy, perfectly designed for displaying contemporary art. I went here for an excellent show on indian modern and contemporary art. There was a very good balance of open and more intimate spaces. My only complaint was that the cafe food wasn't so great. It takes about 40 minutes to take the 7 out here from grand central and there is about 15 minutes of walking from the station to the museum. read more

The red-headed step child of art musuems, Queens Museum is often overlooked in favor of it's more glamorous Manhattan brethern, heck even in Flushing Meadows it's overshadowed by the kid friendly Hall of Science. However those who do get a chance to make it out here won't be dissapointed. The centerpiece for this musuem has got to be the Panorama. It's a wonderously acurate model of the entire 5 boroughs the make up our fair city. There are also some really nice exhibits on the two NYC worlds fairs, gives a good visual history and some context for all the random buildings you see in the park, like the unisphere, and the state pavilion (you know the flying saucers from Men in Black). One thing that many people don't know about is that there is a very nice collection of Tiffany Glass at the museum. May not rate a dedicated trip, but when strolling Flushing Meadows in the spring/summer take some time out of rowing on the lake, the Hall of Science and the Zoo to stop in. read more

Great looking venue. Was here for a Yelp event last week so it wasn't the standard setup inside. Limited (free) parking, especially when the weather is nice and families flood the adjacent park, so you should strongly consider not driving in. I was intrigued by the limited items on display and would love to go back and check out the exhibits. Cool spot for a gathering...or even a wedding (if you think outside the box). read more

In my opinion, the Queens Museum of Art is definitely one of the premier museums in New York City. I'm ashamed to admit that although I've been a Queens resident my whole life, I only discovered the QMA about 5 years ago. The Panorama is indeed an amazing site and is also the largest scale model of NYC ever built. The QMA also has a vast of array of other exhibitions that change periodically. Another favorite exhibit of mine is their permanent World's Fair exhibit with photos, exhibits and memorabilia from both the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs. The QMA is also in the midst of expanding and I am looking forward to the new exhibits that will surely be added. read more

What an idyllic location for a museum. I have been attending the US Open for years and did not know that this museum was just next door. After a nice stroll in the park and a beautiful gaze of the Unisphere, you are ready to see some amazing art. The Queens museum is a wonderful space to showcase amazing art from artists all over the globe. The venue is vast, bright from all the glass windows encompassing the building, and overall a great space for a museum. We also very much were in awe of the panorama of NYC. It really shows how vast the boroughs are and how amazing each and every building and street comprises this place we call home. The guide was very easy to follow when she described a bit of history behind the panorama and even used a laser pointer as the panorama is incredibly big. We were here for a yelp event but will definitely return to check out more of the artwork. Will need to update this review when I do! read more

I remembered this museum very fondly after visiting several years ago, and was excited to bring a group of friends this past weekend who had never visited before. The museum itself deserves 4-5 stars, particularly because of the 1964 NYC panorama which is quite a unique gem of city history. Unfortunately, the staff member who greeted us at the front desk (perhaps "greeted" is too pleasant a term), and repeatedly barked at us about the suggested donation prices clouded my initial enjoyment of the museum and caused me to want to come home and write a few negative words here. As a regular patron of the arts, I understand and respect their need for donations, but felt so angered by his tone that my desire to donate completely dissolved. I hope the staff will reconsider the importance of customer service when asking for (yes, "asking", not ordering) support in the future so this lovely museum can stay alive. read more

Visited the Queens Museum for the first time. there are interesting exhibits but you could see the whole museum in about 2 hours the price is roughly cheap considering Manhattan prices. if you decide to eat in the museum they do have a little cafeteria on the first floor to your right when you walk in. right next to the cafe spot they also have a little store as well. the only issue was getting to the museum because its so far from the 7 train you have to walk through the park. The museum is small and features very little art. The New York City panorama takes up nearly a third of the museum, and while it's an impressive piece of craftsmanship, it's nowhere near enough to anchor an entire art museum. The only paintings or prints on display were silkscreens in an exhibit on Warhol. When attempting to enter the Warhol exhibit, I got yelled at by a rent-a-cop for "entering the wrong way". There was no signage or visual indication of this, and the exhibit was not featured in chronological order (it was housed in one large room). read more

Queens Museum re-opened in 2013 after a $69 million renovation that created 50,000 more square feet, extra galleries, studios for resident artists, and a new, gorgeous sky-lit atrium. The museum is most famous for Panorama of the City of New York, a 9,335-square-foot, 900,000-structure, scaled-down architectural model of all five boroughs. The permanent collection includes a display of Tiffany glass, paintings from Salvador Dali, crime scene photographs from the Daily News archives, and more than 6,000 artifacts from the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs. The museum is located in the New York City Building, which was constructed for the 1939 World's Fair. From 1946 to 1950, the venue hosted the United Nations General Assembly which created the state of Israel in British-occupied Palestine in 1947. While in Queens, the entity also dealt with the Indian Independence Act of 1947, which dissolved the British Indian Empire, and created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which decrees that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Multi-culturalism is the focus of most of the museum's special programming, and exhibitions have included Across the Pacific: Contemporary Korean and Korean American Art; Out of India: Contemporary Art of the South Asian Diaspora; and Modern Odysseys: Greek American Artists of the 20th Century. read more
