I went on a snowy weekend. The day I went, some of the active exhibits include the Afro-American heritage art, showcasing memorable works from the recent black panther franchise. Additionally, there were other art pieces focused on jewelry. I also saw an exhibit on motherhood, showcasing a variety of baby carriers. I went to the museum with my NY culturepass, making my experience free. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you're ever in the Columbus circle area.

The museum itself is small and kind of crowded, but they definitely packed a lot of fascinating garments into such a small space. Some of my favorite garments on display at the special exhibit: 1. Issey Miyake's red plastic body bustier from 1983 2. A red silk satin corset from 1889 3. Jack Jacobus high-heeled boots from 1895-1900, gift of the Victoria & Albert Museum 4. Top hats from Books Brothers, Christian Dior (his is corseted!), and Justin Smith 5. A Jean Paul Gaultier orange cone-bra dress 6. Thierry Mugler's mermaid dress 7. A spikey black coat ensemble from Viktor & Rolf 8. A 3D-printed spider dress 2.0 created and engineered by Annouk Wipprecht for INTEL in 2015, in collaboration with Philip H. Wilck (it made me think of the mantis blades from Cyberpunk 2077. There was also a video in the gallery of the "legs" on the shoulders of the dress moving. 9. Chocolate dress 10. It is accessible via public transportation including trains A,C,J,Z, 1, 2,3 to Chambers St., trains R & W to City Hall, & 4,5,6 to Brooklyn Bridge. The "Move The Passion" Event was held on 6/8/26. As this was a multi-location event held in 3 different places, Hall des Lumieres was the starting point for some of us to begin this Immersive Experience & Wine Tasting journey. Upon arrival, we went through check-in, received our fantastic goodie bags & proceeded into Hall des Lumieres. There were wine vendors/ wine companies w/ great white, red, rose' & orange wines. Columbian Producer/DJ Maku provided a great music set that livened up the atmosphere. It was nice to learn about various types of wines from various countries. Bathrooms were downstairs & guests were able to go upstairs to hang out by DJ Maku & take pictures. Absolutely mesmerized at how huge the space is as an event venue. Can we just talk about the high-ceiling + marble walls + stained glass + its historical, architectural design inside out? Didn't even had any idea about the existence of this breathtaking, luxurious looking event venue, had it not been for today's Elle World Pop Up. The digital art images that you could see and were projected on the screens + walls + ceiling + floor were astounding. Thus, creating masterpieces throughout the entire event venue experience. Such a lively and beautiful experience! Glad to know that the Hall des Lumières is a permanent digital art location. Made the attendees feel like they were part of the immersive event as well. Place is easily accessible of a 2-min walking distance. The 4/5 trains are just around the corner from the Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall Station. With over 30,000 square feet in size, this indoor venue has two floors in total. Mostly used for public art exhibitions + concerts + fashion shows + brand activations. Even used for private events like weddings and corporate dinner parties. Capacity is up to one thousand people in attendance. Restrooms are super clean and tidy. Apparently, the building used to be a bank in the past.

My family's story in the United States has roots on the lower east side of Manhattan. Lost history…read moresince my grandfather refused to talk about his early life, emigrating from Russia. My grandmother was just a baby with few recollections. In 1988 two visionaries founded the Tenement Museum. Their intent was to spread tolerance and understanding of the immigrant experience. The museum purchased two tenement buildings on Orchard Street and rehabbed several apartments to simulate the way they were when occupied. Between 1863 and 1935 it's estimated thousands of people from 20 nations called these tenement buildings 'home.' I found the tour fascinating with our guide talking about two families -- one Italian, the other Jewish -- and the hardships they endured living in over-crowded quarters. There are several tours you can choose from focusing on different immigrant experiences, each $30, each ranging from 60 to 75 minutes. (The only way you can see the museum is by booking a tour.) Make reservations on line and check-in at the visitors' center upon arrival. Learn more about the museum by watching the 26 minute film that's run on a loop in the back room. We went on a tour called "family-owned." The tours seem to fill up quickly on weekends, so it is a good idea to reserve in advance. You meet in the main building and then form into your tour group. You get a quick briefing at the start, then go into one of the tenements. This tour started in one that was a saloon in the front and then an apartment in the past (with families from Prussia and Bavaria). The tour guide was excellent and the history was really interesting. I will likely go back again for a different tour--definitely worth a visit.

I hadn't realized just how current his themes are and just how relevant the messages remain. Among my favorites are his tribute to rats, who exist and survive and sometimes thrive without permission, and I love that he turned a classic painting into a cry against consumerism. The hotel was fun to see as well. I didn't even know I loved Banksy until I came here. Definitely visit at least once if you're in the area!

The New York Transit Museum is a public transportation museum that opened in Brooklyn, New York in…read moreJuly 1976. It was founded by the Metropolitan Transit Authority. The museum is located underground in the decommissioned Court Street subway station. Opened in 1936, the station was built to serve as a terminus for trains of the IND Fulton Street Line. Due to the proximity of other stations in the Downtown Brooklyn area, the Court Street station never saw much traffic and was abandoned by June 1946. After it was abandoned, the station was used as a filming location for a number of Hollywood films that include "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" (1974). As part of New York City's United States Bicentennial celebrations in 1976, members of the NYC Transit Authority built a New York City Transit Exhibit at the station. Although the exhibit was meant to only be open until September of that year, it proved to be so popular that it remained open and eventually became a permanent museum. The museum displays historical artifacts of the New York City Subway, bus, and commuter rail systems in the greater New York City metropolitan region. Although the Court Street station is considered to be decommissioned, it is still technically an active subway station because it serves as a turnaround for the 6 line. My family and I recently visited the New York Transit Museum while we were spending the day in Brooklyn. To enter the museum, you need to descend a staircase that leads underground, just like you would at any subway station. This museum is so thorough at discussing the history of New York City's public transit system from the late 19th century right up to present day. Some of the artifacts that we saw on display included old subway turnstiles, bus fareboxes, subway tokens, payphones, train and trolley models, various types of vintage transit signs, and much more! The museum is also quite interactive, which was delightful for my two sons. They both loved riding on the various buses and subway trains. The platform level features two fully powered and operational subway tracks which contain many historic examples of New York City subway and elevated railway equipment on permanent display. This was the most fun museum that we've visited in a while and we highly recommend it to visitors to Downtown Brooklyn!

Regardless of going to the museum, the gift shop is really nice and heavily recommended, and they have a quaint little cafe with Asian inspired food options. Price: $15 for adults, $10 for seniors/children, and free for members/people under 16 Amount of time: ~2-2.5 hours. More if you want to watch all the short films I have been to this small museum on Park Avenue a handful of times. The place consists of a few floors, accessible via a beautiful staircase or an elevator, with the main floor having an excellent gift shop, a small cafe, a tiny amount of stuff from other exhibitions, and stairs downstairs to go to their theater, which has rotating interesting movies mostly from years ago from a variety of Asian countries, of course. The second floor has the largest section, and either has one large exhibition, or the first/larger half of an exhibition continued upstairs, along with a little theater showcasing short films. The third floor has the remaining half, or other new exhibits, and another room, which is smaller. The most recent time I went there was a week ago. The main exhibition, split between two floors, was Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon, which appropriately has 70 of their finest works as it is celebrating their 70th anniversary. As can be seen in the photos, this ranged from statues and other relics to beautiful ceramics, among other things. There was also a small section including contributions from Blanchette Rockefeller, and a small collection of recent acquisitions on the third floor. The current short film series is Busy Busy Towns, an alright showcase of stop motion and short documentaries, with the longest one by a mile being a 35-minute short film called Factory by Chen Chieh-jen, produced in 2003. The concept was interesting, but I found it to be a snoozefest. As per last time, it wasn't the longest visit, but it was still nice. This isn't my favorite museum in the city, but it's nice for an afternoon visit. As said, check the current selection to see if you're interested.

Behind each painting is a story and a song. Videos of songs with natives dancing on interactive monitors. Bark painting in brown coloring of the bark against an off-white background. There is one painting in blue done with permission from a handicap painter. Paintings divided up between men and women painters women painters tend to paint scenes of domestic life.. This is the first review in Yelp and TripAdvisor on the subject matter, and probably the only review as exhibit was on display for only 3.5 months starting in mid September 2024. Sharks in Australia? Never been to Australia, and this is as close as I will come.
