From the moment you walk up (or drive up) you start to get the feeling of how good a pub this is. Excellent location tucked away from the busy A59 in a small village but still close enough to Harrogate to draw quite the evening dinner crowd. It's a place whose reputation draws most of the customers. The word of mouth about this inn is intense and completely positive.
So to the food. From my experiences there isn't a bad thing on the menu. It's a lot of the typical British inn foods, but all very well made and flavourful! The seafood bake is popular and rightly so. Their Giant Yorkshire Puddings are also extremely flavourful and scrummy. They have two tenured real ales on draft, plus a third "visiting" cask ale that changes every so often. They also have all the other usual beers like Guinness, Tetleys, etc. The service is very friendly and food comes at exactly the speed you would want.
Classic pub atmosphere with wonderful decorating. Not kitschy or outdated. Comfortably classic pub.
Lastly, the inn's accommodation is very good as well. Seven well appointed en-suite rooms. I had the Queens Flat, which includes a small -though completely equipped- kitchen. Four-burner hob with oven, microwave, and even a washing machine. With all this, "flat" is the perfect name for this suite. A more spacious bedroom than I was expecting for such an old building. Extremely comfortable bed and pillows! A rare thing amongst village inns like this, the proprietors seem to be with the current age and have free WiFi that covers the entire property.
I'd recommend the Queens Head to anyone and everyone. A true public house to which all others should be measured. read more
