I couldn't resist this pretty little bar set in the middle of the QVB shopping centre. The counter, tables, chairs and stools that rest against the bar are all made from a lovely dark wood which complements the Victorian tiled floor perfectly. What's more the glass ceiling above means that light shines directly onto this little spot, who needs a cosy little cafe when you can sit in such spendlour in the QVB?
Once I had myself parked at one of the little tables, I eyed the somewhat bewilderingly broad range of food on offer on the menu. One side has all your usual lunchtime savoury fare, homely sandwich combinations and quiches etc.
One the OTHER side however was something like 21 different types of cakes and 10 different types of biscuit (Gluten free included). Now THAT is a proper afternoon tea. Purely to be different I decided to have an orange and poppy seed friande which arrived at my table looking like an exquisite gem, almost too pretty to eat. Almost, I said. Although it was slightly dry, it was still flavoursome and delicate and just what the doctor ordered after my shopping exertions.
A beautiful little place! read more
