It was an interesting dining experience here, as they are in the process of moving to a new location. I asked if it was ok that our group dine in and the owner said it was fine, so we did. We were each given a bottle of water while we perused their menu. I'm not sure I always understood the questions he asked, but we got our food ordered. It came out pretty quickly. We just didn't understand what came with the various dishes, so we'd ordered more food than we could possibly eat. Everyone enjoyed the meal and our time together. I was really excited to check out Queen Sheba after hearing some good things about it, but I unfortunately was a bit disappointed with the experience. To start with the good, staff were friendly. Service was good and the food came out quick. The space was clean and there's lot of seating. However, I was a bit disappointed in the food itself. I preface this by saying that while I know this is an Eritrean restaurant, a lot of the dishes are similar between Eritrean and Ethiopian food. I really enjoy Ethiopian food, and I was really looking forward to eating here. But the presentation was lackluster; even a quick google search can show how colorful and appetizing Eritrean food can be. We couldn't tell the difference between the beef tibs, the spicy beef, and the regular beef because they all tasted the same. The chicken was dry and hard to chew. I'm not sure if it was because the injera was too sour, but all the lentils tasted the same too. I came in ready to stuff my face but left feeling pretty disappointed. read more

Really good food here . The restaurant is also a small market . Owner is fun to chat it up with. Eritrean is very similar to Ethiopian style food as far as how it is served and flavors for reference. You must request spicy if that's your thing. It is a bit warm in the dining area so dress comfortably. Many vegan options available. read more

So disappointed with this visit. The injera was too fermented for my liking. We ordered the meat combo, veggie combo and the beef tibs. The veggie combo was mostly lentil based and the veggies over cooked. The Tibs was way too saucy than tibs I get at most other places. Service however is awesome and friendly. read more

My sister and I ordered a boneless chicken and spinach dish to share, and they added on some extra vegetable dishes for us to try. Everything had great flavor, and the portions are worth while. It's definitely a small, hole-in-the-wall shop with some interesting decor and storage space, but the (presumed) owner was incredibly nice and made it a great experience! We ordered a couple combo plates (one lamb and one vegetarian), which were presented "family style." No utensils were used, and it was a lot of fun scooping up the entrees with fresh-baked, gluten-free Eritrea flatbread. Loved it!! I don't recommend this place at all. I ordered a beef and chicken dish, and everything came out on one plate after about 45 minutes, according to the server. The dish was listed as $18 and $16, and I was overcharged. The food was ok but I felt like I was cheated out of what could have been an ok experince. Although I've never tried Eritrean food before, I've had Ethiopian, which is close, both in proximity and taste. My wife and I tried it on a whim as we passed by. We found a safe place to U-turn and wow are we glad we did! In addition to the restaurant, there was a small store to purchase items from Eritrea. It's a family business and all hands were busily preparing food. A little girl greeted us while briefly looking up from making bread. Queen Sheba is amazing! Hands down my favorite food in Tucson so far. It's super casual, but it's not order at the counter for dining in customers. It looks like it could go either way. They were so friendly and welcoming. When I sat down I was offered water with or without ice. When the owner came to my table to take my order, I ordered "beef combo" instead of meat combo. The beef is definitely the best I've ever had so I'm glad I got a lot of it. It's dice sized cubes of super-tender beef in a flavorful sauce that is not hot-pepper hot. I also asked for shero, because typically that's my favorite. I received a full size injera with 1/3 beef in berebe, 1/3 shero, and 1/3 all the other veg dishes they make. Everything was wonderful. I even liked the greens! There was a generous plate of injera strips as well. It all smelled so amazing that I forgot to take pictures. Since what I ordered is actually 2 entrees, I took at least 3 lunches' worth of food home. The owner boxed it up for me using the largest spoon I've seen. Prices are good for the amount of delicious food you get. My food came out fast. It tasted fresh, but the speed makes it a viable lunch option. Canned soda was the only thing I don't recommend. It came out of a glass front professional refrigerator but was warm. The sign outside says they are an Eritrean grocery as well, but that section is well to the side. When I went at 11:30am, I was the only person there. Others came in as I was leaving. The parking is easy. The owner told me I was welcome any time. I will definitely be adding this to my restaurant rotation. Now I just need some more friends who are food-adventurous... read more

I was worried that they had closed down based on no recent yelp reviews but THEY ARE OPEN!!! They even looked closed from the parking lot (no cars) but the "Open" sign was lit up and when I pulled into the parking space, I could see people seated at a table inside. This was our first time getting food from Queen Sheba and we will definitely be back! The husband and I wanted to try something different and I found this place close by. We ordered takeout (meat combo and veggie combo plus a donut for dessert) and it was all completely fabulous! The cabbage in the veggie combo was incredible, both flavors of lentils were delicious (I realized at the end I ate more of the yellow ones) and the beef had a complex flavor that paired nicely with everything. The owners were also a delight. I told them it was my first time eating there and they were kind and patient as I asked questions about the food. On top of that, driving there I hit the world's biggest pothole and got a flat tire. At 9 pm in the rain, they helped me by holding lights, getting a real jack out and problem solving how to get the nut covers off since it was my first time changing a tire of a new car and the previous owner seemed to misplace some of the tools necessary. This was our first time here! We came here on a Saturday night around 6:45pm, and there was already a group of 3 people eating and another group of 6 people. Service was slow here, but that's because there's the owner waiting the tables and a chef in the kitchen. It's fine but don't come too hungry or you'll get hangry! We each ordered the large Meat Combo, and it all came out on top of one round injeri bread with individual injeri bread on the side. Injeri is a sourdough-type flatbread that is made from teff flour, and it's a national dish for some African countries, including Ethiopia and Eritrea. The Meat Combo comes with a sample of beef, spicy beef, lamb, and chicken with some sides that weren't described in the menu. I think maybe something with chickpeas but whatever it is, it's delicious! The Meat Combo came out pretty quick from the time we ordered it. I thought the chicken was slightly dry, and my favorite is the spicy beef. I kind of wished that the food was kept at a hotter temperature. It was a bit on a low-warm setting for me. We also ordered an avocado salad. It was fresh with tomatoes, onions, greens, and slices of avocado on top. I ate it too fast so I didn't get a photo. The dressing is light, sweet, and tangy. I'd call it a light Italian dressing. Whatever it is, I'd buy the dressing if they sold it at Queen Sheba. As for the atmosphere, the walls are white with lots of framed photos of Erithean culture (the food here culturally derived from Erithea, a country in Africa). There are long tables with white tablecloths pushed together so it's a tight seating area when there are a lot of people. Overall, I'd definitely come back here again! The food here is delicious. For those of you that don't know, you eat with your hands here, no forks (unless you have the salad). read more

I've been wanting to try Queen Sheba since it opened and finally got the opportunity to. The food was delicious and the quantities were huge! I believe this is the only Eritrean place in Tucson. There are a few Ethiopian restaurants that have similar dishes. I can't say that I am cultured enough to know the difference, but what I do know is that it's really tasty. They have multiple meat and vegetarian entrees, build-your-own platters, and pre-selected meat and veggie combos. A friend and I shared the small veggie combo platter ($10, what a steal) and had plenty of leftovers after stuffing ourselves. There were a few potato, lentil, spinach, and tomato dishes. I didn't catch the names but it was all good. There was plenty of spongy, tangy injera to go around as well. I saw that the ga'at was a traditional dish, so we tried that. It's a thick barley and teff porridge that has almost a chewy polenta texture. There is a well in the middle filled with spiced oil and it is served with cottage cheese. It may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it. We also ordered a small and it turned out to be anything but. It was about 6 inches in diameter! The service was super friendly. It was quiet on a Monday night and the server (and owner?) checked on us several times. It's great to have an alternative to the Ethiopian places in town. Family owned and operated ( which is a win in my book! Support the local business). Even though, it's a small establishment- very very tasty and clean! I like to check out the bathrooms, usually points how clean the kitchen is - and it is super duper clean ! Also, the kitchen is very open so you can actually watch the process of cooking which is very cool. Had tried variety of combo platters from Vegetarian to Meat selections and I was pretty happy and satisfied with everything. Was pretty good as leftovers too!
