The museum is a teaching…read morefacility with items from antiquity to modern, over 22,000 items, paintings, drawings, prints, graphic art, sculpture, textiles, glass and ceramics. I was principally interested in the Hudson River landscape painters of which there is an impressive number; I was not to be disappointed, from the giants to the lesser known Hudson River Landscape Atrist, many are represented there. I was, also, quite surprised to see the number of Aaron Draper Shattuck paintings on display, a New Hampshire artist who I have long admired. The Loeb Museum is fascinating; you can easily spend an entire day and merely scratch the surface of this incredible collection. Located on this very beautiful picturesque Vassar College Campus, the Francis Lehman Loeb is worth a visit anytime of year, the campus setting and museum is truly a visit you will long remember.

Darkside Records is a must visit if you're in the Hudson Valley…read more Justin is awesome and the whole team is friendly, and super knowledgeable without being 'record store pretentious.' The new space is unreal and holds countless vinyl records, CDs, video games, DVDs, VHS, etc. along with so many cool products ranging from swag and gifts, to cannabis equipment and incense. Darkside has a great website to place orders in case you can't stop in in person. Even as a local, I place preorders online for new music, and always can rely on them to have what I'm looking for, including indie-exclusive pressings and vinyl variants. As a loyal customer for nearly 11 years, it's been great to see this business grow into what it is today. Excited for what this new chapter brings to them, and our community. The new Darkside is more than just a storefront, but a community and a VIBE! Soon, it looks like they'll have self pouring taps for customers, as well as a bar on the second floor. Plus it's more than just a pottery studio- it's a creative space where you can take classes, throw your own pieces on the wheel, glaze them and meet cool people. On top of that, they sell beautiful handmade pottery created right there in the studio, so every piece has its own story. This place was a whole vibe for me. Back when I worked nearby, I'd come here on my lunch break just to look around. The ladies working are super sweet and the owner even took me to the back and showed me where all the glazing magic happens. I scored a small, black handmade pitcher covered in little red lips all around and an incense holder.. The prices for both my pieces made me pause a bit- like $60+ for the pitcher and $30+ for the incense holder. I mean... you are paying for art, not something mass-produced. Every piece is one of a kind and you're not going to find the same thing anywhere else.
