William Whately of Parkhill Road attended to my teeth when I was in my 20s and now, aged 50, I am…read morestill putting right the botched dentistry. He held my xrays the wrong way and filled a bottom molar clumsily that I had no issues with and sent me off with a bulky filling that fused my 2 teeth together. Many dentists have described it as heavy handed dentistry and tried half unsuccessfully to separate it since. The pressure pain I suffered on this tooth recently has made me finally give in and beg to have it pulled. After my 2nd visit to this cowboy, I was left a nervous wreck and the next dentist said that the bruising to my face was excessive and not what he would expect. My Mother also had issues and had to contest the bill that they tried to pursue even though she had to spend more money getting her teeth corrected after his work. I went to this pompous man because an ex friend of mine was his dental nurse at the time. He was all charm and false niceness until things went wrong and then, I couldn't have been treated more rudely. I have been left.with fear of all dentists since setting foot in his surgery.

Also up-to-date with the latest techniques and aware of the importance of the health of the whole mouth rather than just the teeth. I've been a patient of Mr Whately's for about 30 years and although I have seen other dentists now and then (when living outside the area) I have never been happy with anyone else. No NHS patients and the fees are reasonably expensive but well worth it (in my opinion). He is the only dentist in the practise so the waiting room is always quiet (you rarely meet another patient) and calm and the reception staff are happy to mind the children during routine appointments. Limited street parking. Car parks nearby.

My first visit to Avenue Dental Surgery wasn't too bad. The dentist, though heavy-handed, was even…read moreable to get a small stain removed. Unfortunately, the filling I received fell out six weeks later. I called for an appointment to have it redone, but couldn't get in right away. Nobody told me there was a two month maximum to have the filling redone at no cost, nor did they try to fit me in earlier. So I had to pay for the filling again. Low and behold, that filling fell out a month later as well. I vowed never to go back but an emergency arose. I had severe pain in a tooth and I could not get in anywhere new soon enough. I had a fractured filling (from ages ago) that had caused more decay. The dentist didn't think it needed a root canal and decided to fill it and to "see how it went." (During the procedure he dropped a glob of filling down the back of my throat causing me to choke and didn't even apologise.) Two days later I was still in pain and then, to my horror, the new filling broke into pieces! Now I am in worse pain than before as the roots are exposed. I would not recommend Avenue Dental. In fact, this man should not be practising dentistry in any capacity.

my family moved to Torquay 3 years ago, up until that point none of us had problems with teeth. My…read moredaughter was told that she may need to have 5 fillings soon, my wife was told to clean her teeth more thoroughly and I was told I had gum disease and required 3 monthly treatment and that you can't cure gum disease. After 2 years of treatment we decided to change dentist , my daughter was has been told there is nothing wrong with her teeth, my wife has been told to ease off on the cleaning as she now has sensitive teeth and I put off my visit because I thought it would be bad news but have just been told that there is nothing wrong with my teeth and no gum disease. So DON'T GO
